I'm level 32 and I can get chain staggered by a single enemy even when blocking with a shield. I love it when the game spawns 4+ monsters that can summon more monsters in the same room.

This mod fixes that, but you need to start a new game for it to work...

There's a couple in the display cases in the mage's guilds.

You have to be a member of the mage's guild and complete the recommendation quests to enter that area.

I got kicked out of the thieves' guild because of a stupid bug. I completed a contract and the guards caught me, so I ran away. So far away from them, in fact, that they finally stopped chasing me. Then I got a message saying that a guard had been killed and I would have to pay 1,000 gold to get back into the Thieves' Guild.

Time to start a charity organization!

In castle Chorrol I've tried to find the painting thief, and I'm sure it's the chick. But when I accuse her she says I have no evidence. I have talked to all the witnesses I'm supposed to and found the "Unusual Paining" in the bottom of the west tower and found the concealed paint supplies in her room. Is there something I'm missing?

Paint on carpet, in the floor of a room.

Check your quest log to figure out which room.

Sneak characters seem to level more slowly than Fighter-Mages. The 50% slowdown mod works great on my second Fighter-Mage, but it's a bit slow on my thiefly dude. Think i'll try notching it down to 25% on him.

Is it normal to crash to desktop about 40% of the time I load a savegame or enter a new area?

No.

But if you alt-tab while loading in any way, you'll crash hard. I've only up and crashed three times, but they were all in the same area, so I think it's just one specific file that got garbled during install.

Nope.

No crashes here.

Except that, for some odd reason, the game crashes when I shut it down sometimes.

But that's the only time the game has ever crashed for me, or my brother.

Well fuck.

I'll frequently crash any time I'd normally go to a loading screen. If I crash when loading a save, the save will be corrupted and I will need to restore a previous save.

Well, first off, the game's installer can be buggy. Ick. I suggest backing up uncorrupt save games (they're in My Docs>My Games>Oblivion>Saves), and reinstalling the game. May fix the issue.

Or try some stuff listed here:

poof.

I'll keep looking around and post again if I find something that may help.

A truly corrupted save can apparently cause the game to crash when loading or saving.

My suggestion: Take all of your saves out of your save folder, place one back in, load up the game, and see if you crash again.

'Nother link, see if something in there can help.

I'll look around a bit more in, say, 8 hours or so.

Anybody else finding out that closing/looting Oblivion Gates is a awesome way of making money? I find all sorts of magic gear inside them, most of it going for 500-700 gold to even the most uptight merchants. Mostly rings and such that weigh next to nothing, so I can load up on them.

This is as a level 8 character, if it matters.

I've honestly never gone into an Oblivion Gate yet.

I've had this game since it came out, and since then I've just ran around for the most part, did all the misc quests in Chorrol, Skingrad, and Anvil, along with a couple in the Imperial City and the Arena quests.

I got my character to level 15 off of doing just that and a few dungeons, then downloaded the exp mod and started over.

Actually... saying they're random is only partly right.

It depends on where you are in the main quest. After a certain point, there's a 10% chance, every time you enter a designated area, that a gate will appear. There just happen to be a whole crapload of these areas. Also, after another point in the quest, there will be a gate outside each major city (I'm not sure, but the Imperial City may be exempt from this, though I've seen 'random gates' by it).

And apparently I hit that 10% every time I feel like going on a dungeon crawl... the last 5 times I've gone hunting in ruins and such, a Gate's been nearby. Kinda annoyed me the last time it happened because a Scamp got a cheap-shot fireball in while I wasn't paying attention.

That seems to be what causes the majority of crashes when you enter Weynon Priory, if it ain't, then you have some weird crash problems. D:

Kenn: What is DEFINATELY causing your crash, is that you fucked with something in the .ini that you shouldn't have, and the game isn't liking that.

Some other things that may have caused the Weynon Priory crash:
bForce1XShaders=0
bDoTexturePass=0
If any of those are set to 0, change em back to 1.

Your best bet is to revert the .ini file back to it's original state, then slowly retweak it to make sure you don't crash in Weynon.
