Yup, there's no doubt about it, Bush won. Well at least the Red Sox won the World Series. Also Bush can't run for a third term.

Ohio still has 250000 vote to count, and kerry is only down by 100000.... so it's not over yet.

Yes it is. In order to make up 100,000 votes from 250,000 ballots, Kerry would have to take 70% of the remaining votes, and that's unlikely just about to the point of impossibility, given the distribution of the other votes in the state, and that a large portion of the uncounted ballots are military ballots, which are historically Republican.

OK, regardless of the result, let's applaud what looks like what will be about a 120 million turnout, 15 million more than ever before. I don't know the percentage turnout for this year.

I would also applaud what appears to be the first majority win for a Presidential candidate since 1988, but I don't want you all to hit me.

It seems like there were less claims of fraud on the Republican side and intimidation on the Democratic side, but frankly I was at a victory party for a Congressional candidate all night and may have missed some of that.

You guys must not have been watching CNN. CNN refuses to call Ohio for Bush. There's caution, then there's CAUTION.

Iowa says they can't give their results until tomorrow, due to "fatigue".

And Ohio won't count the provisional ballots for 11 days.

At this point... based off the percentages given off the current popular vote, it is impossible for Kerry to win Ohio. Especially since Bush's lead has increased there since the Democrates said not to call it. It would take an Act of God for Kerry to win Ohio.

But he won't concede. Period.

While I understand his decision, I think it is going to be very damaging to the Democrats down the line. 537 votes in Florida with hanging chads is one thing, but 130,000 plus in Ohio is something else. Feel free to disagree, but if Kerry really cares about the future of his party and not simply taking power, he should concede by the time America is waking up tomorrow.

With all due respect, exit polls are showing that well over the margin (9.5%) in Ohio voted for Bush because of their "religious faith".

So once again we see religion blind the people into keeping an absolutely incompetant man in power. That's pretty much my last word on the issue.

Those the same exit polls that said Kerry would win Ohio and Florida by significant margins?

IT's an AP exit poll, which I had the pleasure of taking myself when I left my polling place in evendale.

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/OH/P/00/epolls.0.html

Actually it predicted that Bush would win by pretty much the margin he's winning by prior to the absentee ballots (which don't get an exit poll).

And In the interest of not bringing this to a flame war, I'm not going to bash bush any more in this thread, that's kinda what I was getting at.

The Civil War had nothing what so ever to do with slavery. It was just a hot topic Lincoln used to gain world wide support for the Union, which lead to England blockading the southern states and most countries refusing to trade with them.

Slavery wasn't even an issue in the war itself.

Bingo. Civil War was really fought for economic reasons. There were no trade protections for Southern farmers growing cotton, for instance. Egypt (for instance) could actually produce cotton and sell it through the British market to Americans in the North for cheaper than Southern producers could. At the same time, taxes on farmers increased. They finally had enough. Slavery wasn't what started the war, and Lincoln didn't support or stand against it until like a year and a half into the war, at which point he DID sign the Emancipation Proclamation, but that only reached into SOUTHERN states; it had no effect in the North.

Regardless of that, congrats to the Bush supporters. I may not agree with you, but you've voted in force this election and shown your support for your candidate. Good job. Lets hope that the next four years can bring back peace and prosperity to the US.*

Also, I'd like to extend a double deuce to all the states that voted for the gay marriage ban, with a special Fuck You to Mississippi, where it passed with 92% of the vote.
