Just out of curiosity (and cos a whole slew of news items I'm hearing here both on TV and radio at the moment are reporting it)..

.. is it true that John Kerry and the Democrats have declared they are launching Supreme Court action against the legitimacy of voting techniques in both FL and OH, as well as action again the manner in which the votes are being counted??

It's kinda sounding like a repeat of 2000 all over again with Democrats wailing "Omg! He must have cheated! Let's go to court!!" (Kinda like how the Labor Party here is *still* blaming the public for "getting it wrong" over their election defeat 3 weeks ago...)

(As an aside, and as an outsider looking in, it seems funny to me that whenever there is a nation in the world that has accusation of fraudulent voting, intimidation of voters, and a general mistrust of the democratic system of elections [recent example: Zimbabwe], the US is one of the first nations calling for UN inspectors and independant observers to ensure fre and fair elections...

I wonder... How many UN inspectors/observers were on dty for the Presidential elections, given the number and frequency of complaints by both sides of illegal voter registration, voting anomalies, itimidation, etc??)

You know when they announced that the ban here had passed by a good margin, I was a little more than surprised considering how sweeping the Ban was, outlawing any form of civil union that is not a marriage as defined by that ammendment. Of course, after the surprise follows the great anger, knowing that discrimination was just written into the constitutions of several states.

As much as the Supreme Court tried to dodge the issue last time, I think they are getting sucked back in soon.

Good Morning everyone. I can't believe I am already up. We stayed up so late last night waiting on results that I figured I would be in bed till 6PM. But sometimes you are to excited to sleep.

Last night we took the Governors seat in Indiana, the 9th District COngressional seat, Three County Council seats, and retained the Superintendent of public schools and the State Attorney General.

Finally Kerry Just Conceded the election and It appears that Bush won by about 2.5 percent.

From my understanding, most people here in Kentucky have no problem with Civil Unions, but they do not want to see same-sex marriage.

Quite the week. I've been up to my eyeballs in phone calls for both parties and a number of 527 groups. YUCK!!! I'm so glad it's over... I'm glad this only happens once every 4 years.

The company I work for had more D than R programs running. It made me feel so dirty to be doing so much work for them.

And Kegwen, some of the polling I was doing had to do with same sex marriages. I think there will be many more states that will be doing the same. Need to check for any NDA's before I say more...

Renouncing your citizenship is incredibly expensive, among other things. Its so expensive that you can't really afford to do it unless you're quite wealthy. That's why anyone says "love it or leave it" is talking out of their arse. Remember that before you consider doing something like that.

Its good to see that both the candidates took the verdict graciously.

quote:
During the phone call, Bush and Kerry agreed that the divided nation needs to heal, officials said. Bush aides said the president will commit to reaching out to Democrats during his address.

Kerry called Bush at his Oval Office desk about 11:02 a.m. ET, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. During the brief conversation, Bush told the senator he was "an admirable, worthy opponent."

"You waged one tough campaign," McClellan quoted the president as saying. "I hope you are proud of the effort you put in. You should be."

Kerry "could not have been more gracious," said Bush adviser Karl Rove. "The senator told the president, 'I want to work with you to heal the country,' " Rove quoted Kerry as saying.

Now at least its all behind us and we can try to come together as a nation again even if you don't like Bush. We have him for another 4 years no matter your feelings in the matter so lets move on.

Obama won the senate seat, of course. He is one of the few politicians who still makes me feel good about politics.

Melissa Bean beat incumbant Philip Crane in the House, and he was the longest serving Republican congressman (35 years). She is now the congressman of the very conservative Illinois district where I live.

The state representative who I've been working for for the last 2.5 months, Naomi Jakobsson, won her first re-election campaign against a rather tough opponent.

All is still well in my world

Dems have IL for a solid 10 years at a guess unless they unleash a screw up the size of George Ryan's on themselves. Reps might of had a chance if they stood behind Jack Ryan. Trying to get it on with his wife in a bar in France could of brought in voters! Seriously though, bringing in Keyes was rediculously stupid. As was his campaign. "Hay guys. Lets alienate the center and go for hard line republicans in a Democratic state."
