None, because the US and England pretty much invented the UN. You can't be overtaken by something you are running. If Zimbabwe was one of the initial founders and big resourcers to the UN things might be different for them.

Now, here's the real question. Will Bush have the balls to do the right things now that election pressure is off or will he just abuse what he has been given? I was sort of looking for a middle ground between Kerry and Bush, so I could be fairly satisfied if Bush would just fix a few things. But if he screws up and fails to use these 4 years will I'll probably start voting democrat more.

I'm glad Kerry conceded. Sure, I "supported" him, I voted for him...but until today I don't think I really liked a single thing he'd ever done.

Sad.

Either way, I'm not losing sleep over Bush staying in office. Fact is, I never hated the guy, I just didn't like his policies. Four more years isn't going to be the end of the world, and they go (annoyingly) very quickly in retrospect.

My friends are pissed, though. C'est la vie.

Also, I'd like to extend a double deuce to all the states that voted for the gay marriage ban, with a special Fuck You to Mississippi, where it passed with 92% of the vote.

*Wait Wait Wait*

Yeah, we had to vote on that, I voted no. I was a little dissapointed that it got a unanimous yes decision. Even though I voted for Bush.

I really liked Kerry and alot of what he stood for. Yet, when it came down to it, discussing the candidates with Republicans and Democrats, the Republicans could just give me more. All the Democrats ever had to say was "oh well Bush is soooo bad, he did this this and this." They never really told me anything good about Kerry, which is what I wanted to learn about. I know it sounds crazy because I'm for stem cell, gay rights, and abortion, but the issue that really weighed heavily on me was Iraq and terrorism.

For every call I got they all started out with "Do you feel safer now then you did 4 years ago." I cant help but say yes to that, Im still yet to understand how people dont feel safer.

So, maybe Im crazy for posting this on what seems to be a very Kerry approving board, and maybe Im completely wrong for voting for Bush. Though I dont think so, because I dont beleive this country is just going to collapse in the next 4 years, I just dont think it works that way.

I hate to burst your bubble, but when a discriminatory act passes with 92 fucking percent of the vote, the problem doesn't lie in the wording on the ballot. The blame lies squarely with the voters of those 11 states, not some flub in the wording; it passed by too great a margin.

It's just more proof that the flyover and southern states are full of backward, ignorant, bigoted people. There's no reason to vote for a gay marriage ban other than religiously inspired spite for homosexuals.

And attitudes like that, which are fairly common in the Democratic party, are why those states are going to stay red for the foreseeable future. Simply put, most people in those states feel that the Democrats are on the wrong side of the fence when it comes to the Three G's (God, guns and gays).

Calling someone backward, ignorant and bigoted isn't exactly the quickest path to getting them to come around to your point of view.

Why split hairs? I call 'em as they are. It's a simple observation supported by fact.

And who said anything about getting them to come around? Odds are they're perfectly happy being ignorant and bigoted; it makes them feel good that they're defending traditional values and all that other bullshit. It's not that they don't know any better, either. They choose to hold these views. There may be social pressure outside the ballot box, but no one knows how you vote unless you tell them. They consciously chose to support discriminatory legislation, and probably felt good doing it. Trying to change them doesn't factor in at all, indeed, it's probably impossible.

Wrong for southerners to judge, okay for Karnaj to judge...

While I may not agree with it, it is regardless their belief, and frankly put, its not your place to call them ignorant for following their creedence. That really only shows ignorance on your behalf. You're obviously very much biased in your opinion of theism, just as they are biased and guided by their own, its the pot calling the kettle black, sorry mate.

Thats because Karnaj doesn't hold the ability to pass legislature singlehandedly. I'm sure he wouldn't hesitate too much to eradicating most church propelled laws (not that I would disagree with it).

I just object to him labeling an entire culture because it doesn't suit his precise ideals.

Sorry, that kind of complete relativism just doesn't fly. "Well, they have their beliefs and I have mine and that's that," doesn't even apply to this situation; as Zair correctly pointed out, they're legislating from belief, and insodoing, open those beliefs up to criticism and scrutiny.

And you are further wrong, as it is my place to call them ignorant, and backward, and bigoted, because it's a simple statement of fact. There is no other explanation for their behavior. It is bred from religious indoctrination, intolerance, and fear of the unfamiliar. There exists no rational basis for legislating and supporting this kind of discrimination, and because of this, supporting such discrimination is necessarily the product of irrational bases, namely ignorance and bigotry.

Finally, my personal views have nothing to do with it; I am applying critical thought to set of observations and facts to draw the only possible conclusion from these data. While I may not like the conclusion I draw from the process, this remains separate from the process used to arrive at the conclusion. If I fail to report my conclusion in the calmest of tones, it does not automatically disqualify my argument.
