I agree pretty much wholly with Drysart and Lyinar on this.

I think we can stop talking about the 10-20 thing, though. DarkDragoon already said he was just mad when he said that.

It wasn't just a traffic stop, though. The cop was told those people had 'car jacked' that car. Which leads one to believe they would be armed.

The real cause of all this was bad information.

You smell that? Do you smell that? ...Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory.

It wasn't just me. I was with my father on the way to the gun range, so we had a pair of pistols and rifles sitting between us in the truck.

He'd run a stop sign that neither of us noticed, right in front of a cop.

Cops get nervous when you're packing more heat than they are, but I don't blame him at all.

The Fark links are down at the moment (Fark is borked), so I can't find the direct quotes, but...

This wasn't a trafic stop. The department he works for (city police) was called in for some backup and support for what they was told was a felony stop being made by another department (state troopers, I think?). A felony stop is considered a dangerous situation, the subjects may be armed and dangerous. Precautions are to be taken accordingly.

THAT is why he had the shotgun out. He didn't know the full details of what was going on, just that he was supposed to be providing cover and backup to other officers in what may be a dangerous situation.

I'd like to submit that nobody in this thread knows the level of stress involved in being a police officer during an unusual traffic stop.

Sure, it's easy to look at it afterward and say "well he shouldn't have shot, that dog wasn't looking threatening at all", but the pure unadulterated fact of the matter is that you have the luxury of not being in that situation as it unfolded, and knowing that (a) you're not in potentially mortal danger watching it, and (b) you know the outcome in advance. It's ohhh sooo easy to be critical of the officer's behavior with those things going for you.

The sad thing is that this cop's career is probably ruined because of this incident.

Maybe not ruined but he might have to work his way back to where he was.

And you're absolutely correct. You get called out to stop someone who just robbed a place. They may be armed and since they are in the car that puts you at a tactical disadvantage. Adrenaline is now running the show...

I don't even feel sorry for the family anymore after watching an interview with them. The Mother called the police officers who pulled them over terrorists.

(And she said it in a thick southern accident.. coincidence? I don't think their family tree branches.)

wait wait... you just finshed saying that you don't feel sorry for the family. That rather obviously means you don't care if the dog died or you think it was deserved. either way you are trying to justify the dogs death.

I bow before your superior logic and ability to put words in people's mouthes and tell them what they obviously said.

Edit: And just to piss in your Cheerios, even after all the publicity the internal investigators reviewed the evidence and called the killing a clean shoot.

Though I strongly suggest you learn to read before you open your mouth in the future. I never said anything about the dog. The dog dying sucks. I feel sorry for the dog. The dog does not equal the family. Which is who I addressed. You are aware that there were humans involved in this conflict besides the police officer who shot the dog, yes?

Actually, the dog WAS part of the family. so you were talking about the dog.

Even if you were not (and I think you are just backpeddling now) the fact that you completely disregard the emotions of family DOES mean that you simply don't care to even think of why they said the things they said.

Regardless of what you ment the personality of the people does not lower the value of the dog, nor does it lower the pain that they felt.

And I strongly suggest you learn to clarify what you are talking about.

So the internal investigators ruled it was fine hmmm? that is saddening. its a shame you are such a person to tell me that "just to piss in my cheerios"

It says alot about you as a person.

Obviously everyone considers the dog a part of the family D, Dark Dragooon said so!

That's how these things work, you know. When in a valid arguement, one must resort to claiming that the other truly has no idea what the hell he is saying, to further the arguement and consequently, their point.

The fact that he worded what he said poorly does not mean im trying to make him out to be a "BAD GUY" I am simply replying to what he said.

Or should I completely ignore undertones now? If I were to say, "I really love pencils being jabbed in my eye, no really..." would you take it at face value, or would you say, "hmmm... perhaps he means something else"

Well, that is how I took his post, as there was no reason (in my mind) to bring the subject up again except to troll.

I am sorry for the family. Better the dog than one of them, right? But, if you want to make a big deal out of animal deaths, why not choose something that is in danger of extinction? I am sorry if I seem rude here, but..it's just a dog. Dogs by nature are hunters, nad don't like other things on their turf. The family is it's turf. If you saw a dog, what would you think? "Oh how cute, come here, puppy!"? No! You'd shoot it! So excuse me if I am missing the whole point here, but I think it is ridiculous to blame the cop for shooting a potentially dangerous animal in a potentially dangerous situation.
