I found the motherload. I used up 100 torches and am still exploring this massive cavern with god knows how many monsters. Tons of metal.

You won't need to power your furnaces near tokyo tower anytime soon. Lava bucket ftw.

There was so much more there but I figured I'd leave it be.

I decided to invest it in flooring.

Server is back up. Connect on port 25575 instead of the default 25565. This is probably going to change back, but I've got a hairbrained scheme.

To do this, when you enter the server IP address, put :25575 at the end. so

96.235.22.69:25575

I've been unable to connect to 96.235.22.69 or 96.235.22.69:25575 for a few days now...

I've been leaving the server down while I'm at work. It's up right this moment.

The amount of time between launch and the server shitting itself is getting smaller and smaller as time goes by. Originally I could leave it up for a day or two before it totally locked up. Now if I launch it in the morning and leave it up while I'm at work my whole computer is frozen or bluescreened by the time I get home.

I tried running the server without all the modifications that I'd made and it's the same deal. The issue seems to be with the vanilla server and the size of our map.

You know the people on the Minecraft forums say that branch mining is the best for resource gathering but as far as I've seen, spelunking is way superior, perhaps even for diamonds

In Mara's server I've had much better success with caves than anything else as well. The fact we can swim through lava without getting hurt may be cheesy but I'm not complaining.

Also Mara - when you killed your mods, did you do something to the water? Water from buckets is behaving very strangely.

The Mining Section next to spawn extends all the way to Tapas (and has an exit at Skyroad and Tapas). There is a large source of natural lava right under the intersection.

Server is up and I will be leaving it up for stress testing all weekend.

Everything is updated and the latest llamacraft fixes are in.

-Buckets should work.
-type /playerlist for a list of players currently logged on.
-names are colored arbitrarily. Type /color to change your name color.
-Lava doesn't set things on fire
-Flint/steel is replaced by Llamacraft Lighter, which doesn't set anything on fire but fixes bugged furnaces and deletes adminium.

Oblique. Black squares are chunks that have not been generated yet.

Oblique cave map. A little hard to figure out. Darker areas are farther from daylight but not necessarily deeper.

Man, Mara. You sure your reflecting pool is big enough?

edit: I know i've been on your server too long when I looked at some parts of the cave map and knew where that was. Also, it looks like there's an underground route (complete with torches) from tapasland almost up to your quary/pool.

I did, sorry. It kinda sucks because it's not really a snow map either, can't gather it and make ice blocks. Been meaning to change it back.

[edit: part of that reflecting pool is the monument itself, don't forget that the picture is 3/4ths oblique

[edit2: That's not a tunnel from Tapatum to my place, that's the skyroad. Everything under the skyroad shows up as a "cave", limitation of the mapping software.

I played for a bit; built a crappy cobblestone hut near the area where I'm mining like mad. Apparently I intersected with one of the ginormous caverns people have explored. Found a freaking ton of iron, but my furnace bugged out and ate a bunch of it =|

Also, is somebody trying to farm obsidian down there? I saw a freaking cool column of lava pouring into a waterfall (but it was only making cobblestone).

I'm not sure why that happens but it's possible your furnace may do that again. That's why I don't use the furnace in my top basement.

My recommendation is to make another furnace and not use that one again.

If its cool I was going to log on and start my Tree House city (That will take forever to make but will look really cool when done)

I kinda made two huge towers last night to see if the 64 brick limit was there but there should be trees growing on top of them

I've stumbled on a way to get infinite lava buckets from a single one.

First you need to put down a furnace or a workshop, and stand about 2 squares away from it. While holding a bucket of lava, use the furnace/workshop and it'll actually spawn a square of lava. You can then fill a bucket using this square, and the square keeps coming back until you stop gathering it, in which case it'll go away eventually on its own.

On that note, lava has even weirder fluid dynamics than water. I wanted to create falls of lava from my castle towers, but instead of flowing downwards, it also spread outwards, creating a 2x1 lava flow.

Wile trying to address this behaviour, I accidentally blocked the lava flow, causing it to instead pour into the tower and fill it with a fiery bath. And strangely enough, it just wouldn't drain even after removing the spring, I had to work my way down the tower draining everything. Go figure.

I got mcmap to work and it made a really sweet isometric map dump of the server as it currently is.

It's an 11mb png file, so click here to check it out:

EC Server, October 27th 2010

Lots of really odd, huge landmarks that I have never, ever seen. Check out all the chunks that have been generated just since I toggled snow. I paved the way to the great northern sea! I never noticed how close gerbil was. I should shoot some cannonballs at him.

The underground map it made was nonsense, again. The skyroad and skaw's big staircase show up as caves. Check it out anyway here:
