I think the most disturbing part of this thread is she quit a job because the make-up is part of who she is

It is freaking facepaint you buy and put on

I mean, yes it can look nice when not done up in a goth (read : clown) fashion, but it sure isn't required to live your day to day life

It isn't like they were asking her to dye her natural hair colour or something

Ahh well, this thread is still highly amusing

I still remember when my job made me wear a hairnet when I had my head bald

Man, we all laughed at that for weeks

That's irrelvant though. Basically if the US laws are the same as ours then what Gydyon said sums it all up. No ifs, No buts, as long as they're not singleing one person out then she has to conform.

Will you all get it through your heads shes not a GOTH, in no way does she dress goth or look goth, she wears bright clothing, no spikes no leather nothing like that, all she wears is baggy tshirts and bluejeans like everyone else.

Just cause she wears grey eye shadow shes a fucking goth?

And no shes not gonna remove that one layer of makeup for them. Her job with them is already terminated, no chance to please them which she doesnt want to in the first place.

She doesnt have to conform if she doesnt want to, she is one of their hardest worker, always available for them never books off time and calls in sick maybe once a year. Your telling me your not gonna hire someone like this simply cause she has dark eyes?

Wether she's a goth or not is irrelevant.

get it through your damn skull, Your friend literally has to conform to how her employers want her to, OR SHE WILL NEVER HAVE A JOB

If they *DON'T* want her wearing the make up while on the clock, then she best not be wearing it.

And not all employeers are as narrow minded as you seem to think they are.

How about we keep this as a thread and cut the Crap.

Blue Mage already beat me to telling you that her friend Isn't Goth, but w/e.

Honestly, some of the comments made could have been better off thought, and not written. The moment you judge someone on their looks alone you become a vain little prick. This girl was probably the best Casheer (if not worker in General) at that store.

Some of you wear silly hats, some of us get tattooed up, some have guns, some shave their heads, some don't.

This girl had no way worn her makeup like Mimi from the Drew Carey Show. a little black eyeliner and dark grey eyeshadow is just as "GOTH" as some girl doing the same thing with baby blue eyeshadow.

Plus, being "Goth" isn't defined by wearing makeup. It's a state of being....and I'm no way Goth.

I add nothing further to this thread in hopes that it dies.

You guys are being way too harsh on this girl. What if it had been someone who was told she couldn't wear earrings anymore, who had been able to wear earrings for two years? Would you be calling her a piercing freak and saying she needed to come into the real world and learn to conform and various other things some of you have spit out?

I'm not saying she was completely in the right. She could easily have removed the makeup. But I can also understand her wanting to know why. If my company that I've been with for two years now (and a year and a half before I left) said I suddenly couldn't wear the brown shoe style I've worn since I came, I would want to know why to, and would inquire politely about the change.

RedMage, it's noble to stand up for BlueMage and all, I'm sure she appreciates the effort.

But, truly, if she or her friend wants a good job at any point, they are going to have to confrom to that jobs dress code, including make-up the employeer, not her or her friend, consider to heavy, to dark, to much, etc etc etc..

A company usually has an image they want to project, if employees do not fit that image, the are usually given a chance to change or be let go.

It is a suck ass reality, but it is one nonetheless.

Have a nice day.

It doesn't help her job hunting much when asked why she quit her last job and she replies with "Because I wanted to wear make up and they didn't allow it.". Sure, she could , but thats a shitty way to get around something minor that could've been avoided if she just followed the changing rules of her job, instead of throwing a fit and quitting over it.

Wearring makeup isn't like its a damn lifestyle. You can live without the fishscale-stick rubbed on your lips.

I realize this, and what puzzles me is that if they didn't want to project a "bad" image, then why bother hiring her in the first place?

That's the reason why I'm raising Hell. Sure they can change their dress code policies, but If I was a Manager/Owner of a store and I wanted to change the dress code, I would have a staff meeting, or some other means of communicating to my employees these changes, and when they will take effect.

From what I heard...BM's friend heard that the manager didn't like her look from a "4th degree" (Ya know, manager told someone, who told someone else, who told someone else, who told her).

She wasn't given a notice, just a call with a mandate. To me this sounds just ridiculous, and if she was in a union, he wouldn't have gotten away with it.

Thats life.

And a manager that asks his employees opinions on changes of company policy would probably be fired for not doing what their boss(es) told them.

She should've been fucking happy she had a job in the first place. Theres plenty of people unemployeed(Me, Aani, Dens) who'd really love a job right now. But for me and Aani, the markets dry like a desert at noon in the summer.

Makeup is not a part of a persons lifestyle and choice, and really isn't important to the, let alone has any part of, workplace. Unless they work at the circus or birthday parties.

See, the hat was hypothetical

I was trying to put he point across is, that it is a product

You buy it and put it on yourself

It is not the same as, say, being told to stop bringing your asthma inhaler to work because it clashes with the uniform or something

See, THAT would actually matter. It is important, where make-up is dust, coloured dust.

But then, if this make-up is so important that unemployment is preferable to not wearing it for a period of 6'ish hours... well, then the problem doesn't lie with her employers
