Because this person represents the entire United States. Especially the ones calling him a dumbass.
And extreme conservitives are just as bad as extreme liberals, and the extremes don't represent the whole. There are morons in any batch. [ 01-09-2003: Message edited by: Kinanik ]

Iono what do you think?
Though I stand by what I said. Stupid country - Poorly led, so many flaws. Of course there is no way to stop many of them but if they can't do something major about a thing like this then thats sad. Stupid people - Not saying all people but we know they're out there, the cop proves that. [ 01-09-2003: Message edited by: dontauro ]

God, why'd you have to say that.
I can not even begin to imagine what I would feel if a police man stoped me falsely and then proceded to kill my dog.
That was a extremely preventable situation and honestly... around 10-20 years of prison time seems reasonable to me.

Don't live in reality much do ya?
If you spent 10 or so years of your life caring for a family member (just because it was a dog, doesn't mean you didn't care for them the same amount as anyone else) for them to be killed, would you take any less?

Agree with the first part. Second part is dumb as hell. I would have just asked that the Officer step down from active duty.
Seeing as how the officer in question is now a desk jockey, I'd say I would be happy with that situation. Assuming, of course, he stays right there. [ 01-09-2003: Message edited by: Khyron ]
Look on the bright side; the police officer won't be frowned upon if he chooses to eat it. [ 01-09-2003: Message edited by: Someone Else ]

I think you deserve 10 years for that post.
I mean, my god... its not like a dog requires deadly force to stop, besides the fact if they had done it right the situation wouldn't have come up.

I would react the same way if a kid ran at the police officer and he shot him.
Is it wrong to defend those who cannot defend themselves?

Sighs, no, im not PETA. Well... (oh this is going to sound good) I kinda put mentally challenged people and dogs in around the same category) since they don't understand what is going on, and normal people do, so the burden is on the normal people.I would react the same way if a kid ran at the police officer and he shot him.

Is it right to persecute those who made a mistake?

Locking your keys in the car is a mistake. Not killing something.
I digress though, I overreacted though on hearing the story... I just could see myself in the same situation somehow, and its how I would feel.

The circumstances have been explained. In such a case, it is a mistake.
What are you thinking? That he thought "ahyuck, let's killum da doggie" and pulled the trigger?
Most likely, the man isn't sitting at his new desk job, giggling his head off that he shot a dog. He's probably as shaken as he would be if he shot a man.
You're trying to make him out to be someone who killed the dog for kicks. Jesus fuck.

I never said that, nor did I endorse DarkDragoon's initial post. That was extreme.
I'm just appalled at the trivialization of death. It's common for families to treat pets as members. To that family, this may well feel like murder.
The death isn't being trivialized, people are just saying it's stupid to think the cop was an evil dog-shooting guy who steals puppies and eats them.

Dogs are, unfortunately, not citizens. They are beloved pets, but not protected by law as much as a human. The death isn't being trivialized, people are just saying it's stupid to think the cop was an evil dog-shooting guy who steals puppies and eats them.
I'm aware of that. I said felt like murder, in reference to the family's point of view.
And I can't say I agree entirely with either side of this argument. However I do feel that the policeman does deserve some form of punishment for his error.
