So maybe more like this? I think it was rr80 that gives a rank in all masteries as though you'd spent a point in them; if that's correct, you could get the Path of Carnage morale ability with that last point.
It's not an actual spendable point. It just increases the skill level for all trees that you put a point into by one. If you have a rank 40 skill because you specced fully into a tree, it will be rank 41 with the appropriate stats increased.

Does that actually put a point in the tree? Say you had 14 points in a mastery, would it bump it to 15?

I'm really liking brutality for how fast I kill healers and casters, but I think I'd miss the coolness and PVE goodness of monstrosity. Or does AOE become a bad idea in PVE later?
Just going from my experiences on a Sorceress, AoE is already bad by t2. There's another Sorceress on my server who is specced into Destruction and spends her time in Mourkain's spamming AoE; she tends to deal out two and three times my damage while getting less than half the renown and experience. On the other side, there's a Marauder in my guild appears to be using Monstrosity and he appears to do the same as the Sorceress: lots of damage but doesn't get as much renown or experience out of it.

From the book of Skaw, chapter 3, verse 16:
I'd normally say go Monstrosity if you like to RvR. But given your average mdps players lifespan, go Savagery so you can do the most single target damage in the shortest time possible in hopes you can manage to drop someone before you get raped by the Bright Wizards and Arch Mages.
Do not listen to the Magus.
If you aren't 18 yet you are gonna die plenty in RvR not matter the spec. You get rooted and you sit their and die. Brutality is the single target tree. You do as much damage combined damage as a Monstrosity Marauder hitting two things as a Brutality Marauder hitting one enemy. I think Monstrosity is the best leveling and most 'fun' spec for the class. I deal oodles of damage and have a knockdown, a cone disrupt + buildup, and whenever I hit 30 I will have Wrecking Ball and just go to town.
Just note that as monstrosity spec you pretty much don't get kills. You blanket your damage over many enemies making it very hard for healers to heal everyone while a Witch Elf and the tanks pick off the poor saps who don't get a heal in time.
Also I live plenty long as long as I get a heal-over-time. When Ferocious Assault I have a tanks worth of Toughness for 20 seconds along with a Witch Elf's damage.

I dunno, Savagery seems to be a lot more better for cranking out DPS. You can't just look at your own DPS. The Armor and Toughness reducing effects in Savagery helps out everyone, even casters, since Toughness still reduces their DPS as well.

The tooltip for Toughness states it reduces damage, no specific type, where as Armor and Resistances do.
As well, it's a hard DPS reduction, as opposed to a percentage like the others.
Plus, my Glean Magic does wildly different damage against tanks than anyone else pre-mitigation. Skaw fucked around with this message on 10-15-2008 at 01:14 AM.

Other than it being slightly cheaper, is there any reason to use Impale vs Flail? Seems the 2 hits would give a better chance to crit and therefore trigger some of the sweet tactic abilities, not to mention the ease of use. Or is there something I'm missing?
Flail does two hits. One from the mainhand and one from the offhand. Offhand (weapon) does 50% damage. So it's actually less damage than impale which does full. However it can crit twice so Subvert strength has two chances to proc whenever you use it.
Skaw: You don't spec savagery until late in. Without that -75% healing tactic it's just not worth it.

It does, but I'm not sure if it affects crits.
Which is why Sorcs and Bright Wizards can completely obliterate people. Crits seem to completely ignore resists and toughness.

Yeah, currently the critical damage bonus is applied as if you were hit by the attack without any resistance/armor/toughness. The portion of damage that was the regular hit still suffers mitigation though.
also, from today's patch:

Regional Chat System:* Chapter-based chat channels have been replaced with a farther reaching chat system, referred to as Region Chat. A region is defined as the contiguous zones that make up a tier-based racial pairing area. For example, Blighted Isle and Chrace make up one region. Region Chat consists of two channels, Region and Region-RvR.
o Region encompasses the entire region area.
o Region-RvR encompasses the RvR-focused areas, such as the Plain of Bone.* How to use the Regional Chat System:
o To type in the Region channel, use /1 [message]
o To type in the Region-RvR channel, use /2 [message]
Note: You must be in the RvR-focused region to use the Region-RvR channel. Players on Open RvR servers will have access to Channel 2 at all times.
o To disable these channels right click on the proper chat tab, go to "Tab Options" then "Filters." Scroll down to Region and Region-RvR and uncheck the channels you no longer wish to view.
o If you have disabled either channel and wish to re-enable them simply return to the "Filters" menu and re-select the appropriate channels.

Eh, good and bad.
For one, the PvE is a secondary thought, but that didn't stop them from making great innovations. Public Quests are fun as hell and totally easy, requiring neither group nor coordination to do...if you can find people who are around to do it.

No group/coordination was a nice idea but, in practice, you wind up having to spam for people anyway because, even if you can solo the champions for the second stage of the quests, you won't be able to handle the heroes or even lords that spawn for the third. I've leveled a DoK to 17 and a Sorceress to 18; in that time I've managed to do about 7 PQs start to finish.

So how is this game for casual PVE play?
The majority of the good PvE is Public Quests, which require at least a few people (3 or 4) to complete. The rest is the typical "run around and kill mob A 5 times at location B and then return to me" type quests, though at least the general location of the thing you're hunting is in a red blob on your map.
Solo grinding will probably get boring fast.
This game aims to be PvP oriented, if that doesn't interest you, you'll probably get bored with it pretty quick.
On the other hand, if you don't mind PvP, you can jump in scenarios as soon as your character is created and immediately begin smashing people on the opposing faction. Doing so gets you exp, pvp exp, equipment, money, and the ability to buy equipment off of PvP vendors, so it's not like you don't get a good deal of advancement from smashing other players.
On top of that, the scenarios aren't like WoW's battlegrounds where you'd jump in a battleground and it might take half an hour to a couple of hours. The scenarios are always capped at 15 minutes, and then the team with the highest score wins from that point. So there's no stalemates.
The best way to level would be through a mixture of normal quests, grinding public quests (for the influence rewards), and doing scenarios. If you just focus on PvE, expect to be bored with the game sometime around level 15 to 20.
That being said, if you enjoy PvP and a game world that has a pretty cool story line to go along with it, Warhammer is pretty damn fun.

I've actually found pure scenario-based leveling to be faster and more fun than mixing it with PvE. If I hang around the appropriate warcamp for the scenario I want to do (Marshes of Madness since Mourkain Temple pops most often in t2), I make about 8-10k minimum exp on each one with 300-600 renown. That's about every 15 minutes if you count from the time I jump in the queue to the time I turn in the quests. I've found it takes a good hour to produce similar progress PvE and nobody's been around to do PQs, which is annoying given how good the loot is. That said, I continue to PvE because I love my tome unlocks.
