I didn't even know it was available for preorders, but I don't really have the time for an MMO now (or in the forseeable future).

For the moment I'm just botting Diablo 2 relentlessly.

By Preorder, I meant I got a Collector's Edition box place-holder from Best Buy and paid for part of it already.

If you want, I could go pre order you a copy or some such and have the codes sent to you when it comes out. Hell, I'd float you an account if you wanted and sign up with my address too. Let me know, man.

You had best make sure to have the game shipped from America too. If not you'll have to deal with shitty GOA handling your servers and you'll be unable to play with Americans.

You can't preorder a collector's edition anywhere now, they're sold out from what I've heard.

But the CE preorder gives you entry into the beta test earlier than others, and gives you an extra day of pre-release head start. And some cool shit in the box when you get the CE.

CE preorders get closed beta access (belatedly, but still), a longer headstart, as well as "special" faces.

Yes, the beta and preorder codes and whatnot are turning out to be quite hodgepodge. I for one could care less about all the bells and whistles, I just want my headstart to reserve my character names. I'm just glad not to be in Europe, with Goa heading straight for a clusterfuck of a launch.

The cool thing with the headstart is that you don't need to have an actual copy of the game to play when it goes live, so you can order it online without nextday shipping without missing a beat.

So I still really hope this game does well, I'd like a darker more pvp oriented WoW. However, is this game really looking promising? Or is it just another pre-launch mmo hype

also is their pvp system still badass or does it kind of suck ass now

I've heard nothing but good things from the SOK beta testers, especially Balinore. No personal experience because betas hate me, it's like getting in the closed WoW beta was both a blessing and a curse, because I haven't gotten into one since.

But I haven't actually heard any negative comments, other than cutting some content for launch (which I'm sure will come post-launch).

I think it's a bit hyped. But only because Mythic is trying to tout their game as the best and most innovative thing ever in all their interviews... The real thing isn't as special as they're making it sound, but it is still a damn great game.

SWG had all of these and flopped, in some ways, because of these. It was too much of a sandbox with too little content. Like Second Life, only you paid to use it.

Yes, I loved the shit out of those things in SWG.

I would like to see a game with a WoW style core, but with SWG style "nesting" elements.

It would be swell if you could hang up your felheart in your wowhouse instead of vendoring it when you ran out of bank space.

The problem with that is urban sprawl.

The only way to combat it, really, would be Fable 2 style purchasable housing. Like a city with only a few places for vendors, everywhere else for sale via weekly house auctions run by a GM. So people would out-bid each other in heated battles over the best places to live.

I don't know why people always bring that up, the only game in which urban sprawl was ever an issue was UO.

Every game since has had an extremely simple and effective method of addressing it. Limiting the number of characters you can have per server, accruing land by account rather than by character, instanced housing, there's almost as many solutions as there have been games with player housing.

NDA still isn't lifted last I'd heard so I won't be saying much more than: Check the beta forums as always. You need to be checking them daily or as some folks found out recently, you'll wait over a week before you can download the next phase.
