Mayhap bonus abilities are somehow involved (although I don't know if you can choose to not select a bonus ability)

(first I played was an Infiltrator)

The first play through I did as an infiltrator I did with Kaidan in the squad the entire time. He died maybe once or twice the entire time and he has a ton of abilities to use during combat. Throw and Lift are the two most useful biotic abilities (this is a heavily opinion based thing) and Sabotage and destroy-enemy-shielding tech mine abilities are sweet.

Plus he plays group medic since he has Medicine which seriously drops the cooldown on first aid in addition to giving a pretty fucking sweet biological target stun and toxic DoT.

I don't see where everyone's saying "OMGLOL HE SUXXXXX".

Gaydan is just Carth but even faggier because he can't do any damage. His "talents" are moot since he always runs directly into the line of fire and dies horribly, rendering himself utterly useless until I finally had him go die with the nuke. My main character is a soldier: a character with balls, and not surprisingly the complete opposite of Gaydan.

Ya, I was more talking about actually using him in combat. I agree that his dialog isn't anywhere near the other characters.

Also I think part of it is that, playing an infiltrator instead of a soldier, I tend to hang back behind cover most of the time and whore abilities rather than power up and rush in. As I said, I never had much of a problem with Kaidan dying much and he and Wrex definitely did their fair share of damage.

I did the same freakin' thing. I was trying to take out Thresher Maws with my machinegun, until I saw in the Codex entry that it has a 155mm cannon, smacked myself in the forehead, and exclaimed, "Right Bumper!"

...Sure enough, that's right where it was.

I found the main gun right away. I like doing thruster jumps from high mountains and firing the cannon aimlessly for no reason.

I've found driving while in the zoom view is pretty exhilirating. Or disorientating. One of those.

I'm doing the entire game basically with Wrex and Gayrus. Because Gayrus does everything tech I need and isn't a bad fighter either, and Wrex is just a god damn alien wrecking ball.

Am I missing out on anything by staying exclusively with these two?

Wrex isn't really powerful. He can just take a fucking lot of hurting since he has Barrier, Heavy Armor, Immunity, and Regeneration.

Ofcourse, those are the same reason fighting against Krogans is ass.
