Up to GoD, when I quit, that never happened. Bards were considered better pullers for most of LDoN, but in my experience that was largely because most Monks sucked.
The problem with FD pulling was that it was time consuming. A cleric can paci-pull 95% of the stuff a monk would FD split.

Man, I'm not sure what to play. I like to tank. My old EQ Warrior was my favorite character. Are Paladins/Shadow Knights still the best non raid tanks? Or did they ever buff up a Warrior's aggro keeping abilities? As much fun as my Warrior was, the last time I played was mid LDoN and at level 53 I had to use a Blade of Carnage and Hammer of Striking just to keep aggro. >:[
Warriors still pretty much use weapon procs to hold taunt.
Though now they get some special combat abilities that allow them to hold taunt better, which are currently sold in West Freeport, and work off of your character's Endurance stat. (They're sold on the disc vendors, and the ones in Freeport are the only ones that exist on the Progression servers, but they sell ALL discs and combat abilities.)
That, and they redid the way taunt works. It's like WoW's taunt now, where clicking taunt pulls the mob's attention to you instead of whatever the mob is beating on. (In other words, it doesn't just build aggro.) Sadly, it doesn't work reliably until you skill it up a ton. Good thing is, spamming it pulls your skill up pretty quickly.
Paladins spam Flash of Light to hold aggro (not really holding aggro, but the mob can't see to chase after anyone else), and Shadowknights spam Clinging Darkness, seeing that Disease Cloud's aggro holding capabilities were nerfed.
Either way, it's damn near impossible to hold taunt off a Mage/Necro/Wizard, as they'll hit 2x harder than they used to, at half the mana, compared to the original game. (It is kinda fun though, at 20 my mage can knock off 3 bubs of a light red con in 2 spell casts.) Willias fucked around with this message on 07-06-2006 at 06:56 PM.
Paladins get heals and stuff, and at the very high end game, their heals are pretty good.
Shadowknights get a pet, DoTs and lifetap, so they'll do more damage.
ALSO, Shadowknights got buffed along with necromancers with the int caster spell upgrades. So IMO, can't go wrong there. BUT, there are probably more shadowknights than paladins, so you'll have a harder time getting SK specific gear.
Then again, there's also a huge lack of warriors, and anything else that has no magic (except monks), because well, they don't have magic. That, and warriors are still main tanks and they tank better and hold taunt better than SKs and Paladins.
So I have no clue.
My brother is a SK, and he does pretty damn well as a tank especially since as a duo, we have no healer.

Edit: If you really liked warrior, just go warrior. There aren't that many of them. However, it may be a problem finding a group, as many people are finding that groups of mages/wizards and enchanters can pretty much tear through everything.
Though with the rate they've leveled and opened stuff so far, I'm thinking that sometime next weekend, we'll see Kunark opened up on Combine, and shortly after that on Sleeper.

I could see opening the original planes up to give the powerlevers something to do, but I doubt the timer is that short for Kunark.
Btw, on the taunt thing, that's one of the things I love most about a fighting class in EQ2. Any fighter's taunts will pull the mob's aggro to you, rather than just build it, so a zerker can successfully AoE taunt a whole group onto them and keep it there. I've been duoing my conjuror with Deth's zerker and it's amazing how much I can nuke and nuke and nuke and he can peel it off me.

Well, they DID bindrush. Whether that's cheating or not depends on who you're talking to.

I am at a loss to how that is cheating?

Nah, it's just cheesy. They didn't have the force to do it via orthidox methods like their rival guild has and they didn't wanna be beaten to the dragons like they were Phinny.
Frankly, I don't care if the planes are open now. So long as it takes at least a month before Kunark is opened I'll be happy. I might have Lv.50 and even my Robe of the Lost Circle by then.

It ain't really, but it's an incredibly cheezy way to kill a raid mob.
Reportedly, some of the people who were bind rushing lost well over a level in EXP loss.
Also, apparently the first planes aren't unlocked on Combine. Meaning either: A) Phinny wasn't a required boss like everyone thought. or B) Combine bumped into a stopgap, which are supposedly so insanely hard to meet, that Maddoc didn't expect any to be bumped into.
I'm thinking B.

Hey, where do you go to level at 20? A dude I've befriended on Sleeper says Cazic Thule, as he went from 20 to 36-ish there. Tried hunting there, but it's a bit too "campy" for my style. D:
Also tried Runnyeye, but I couldn't find enough blue con goblins to smash, and the sporali duders are incredibly painful to a duo with no healer. (Runnyeye would have been good exp if my brother and I didn't die to mushroom men every few pulls.) Willias fucked around with this message on 07-08-2006 at 11:16 PM.

so what is a stopgap?
A time lock.
A certain amount of time that must pass until the next expansion can actually be unlocked. They were supposed to be set to short enough periods of time to where no guild or group of players would bump into them when trying to unlock content.
I'm thinking that the first stopgap was bumped into for the unlock of the original planes. I'd think it was set at 2 weeks.

Around 20 you hunt goblins in Highkeep Hold right?

Checked the goblins in there (was only there for 30-ish seconds). Only ones I saw were red con. Though I guess I could head back again and check a second time. IIRC the goblins there weren't bad money, and there were guards nearby, AND they drop words a lot for research.
Edit: Looking it up on 'zam, they're mostly mid-20s. :/ Willias fucked around with this message on 07-08-2006 at 11:29 PM.

The sporali were what I killed 18-20. Then I believe I killed spiders in Lavastorm 20-22, then 22-25 in the bottom floor of Runnyeye. Lavastorm is good for all the way up to the late 20's, though. I got 26 and 27 there today.
Then I killed the guards and nobles in the same zone.
Ah, such fond memories.

Clearly either you've never done that series of quests before, or they somehow shortened it considerably. It could take a month of camping just to get Raster to pop. I hope you get lucky with all the parts of it, though.
Edit: I suppose you can kill Zephyl, but I'm not really sure if that's very plausible feat at this point in the server's life. Densetsu fucked around with this message on 07-09-2006 at 05:00 AM.
I just patched everything and logged into my old test server characters... Suchii has no hair ;P There are 27 people on the entirety of the test server I found that awfully depressing.
I created Suchii six and a half years ago! Sheesh... and it took me 43 days played to get to level 49. My (latest) WoW character is sitting on 9 days at 58, and I thought it took forever >.<

Uh... A month would have to be terrible, terrible luck. I camped Raster thrice, and the longest it took was 48 hours.

Yeah, when I camped Raster it took about 45 minutes.
And the other guy, in Solusek, it took 30.
I got extremely lucky doing my epic.

A month? I've gotten a RotLC before on a previous monk and it took me six days. But I say I'd be lucky to get it because he's gonna be camped to all hell for quite some time.
The first camps in Stonebrunt are around that level
Blackburrow's inner depths are late teens and should be blue I think
Oasis might still have some goblins at the camps you could solo
Highhold pass orcs should be around that level, wouldn't go inside till about 23ish unless you're just going to join a group on the first stair landing
Gorge of King Zorbb is a late teens level zone

It's very, very hard to go any higher than 12 in Blackburrow. Frankly it isn't worth the effort past 11 or so because there just isn't enough to kill.

Not only is it not cheating, it was the standard practice when Nagafen and Vox were first being killed.
