Dock Prices for Gas are around $4 bucks, Diesel is not as bad, the dock price has been the same as the pump price. This year has pretty much convinced my dad to move his slip, New place he is looking for wil let a heating oil truk pull up to the docks to fill up --Why pay that road tax when you are not on the roads? -- I mean even normal priceing, that 240 gallon tank produces a scary number after a fill up

Michigan's Governor called up the Gas companies and gave them an earfull. Statewide our prices dropped 20-30 cents, every station I've driven past is now at $2.99.

I don't think distribution is going to be a long-term problem, so much as production is. The SPR is miniscule; it might last a year. Europe's contribution won't help that much; everything I've read is pointing to a ridiculously long recovery time for Gulf oil production--maybe even as long as a decade. I imagine that we'll never see gas much below $3/gallon ever again. Well, until we stop using it as fuel, anyway.

Okay--so I was minding my own business, at the petrol station, with an empty tank, when suddenly the petrol pumps came to life.

My incredulity quickly turned to shock as the pumps then snaked out and grabbed me, bent me over my car and sodomized me roughly. It did not have the courtesy to give me a reacharound. I then drove home with a full tank, empty wallet, and sore bottom.

Gas is down to $3.12 at the cheap place.

Diesel is surprisingly only $2.80 or so, and I saw it as low as $2.73 today. I'm now trying to convince my girlfriend to sell her Volvo which gobbles premium and pick up a VW diesel.

I'm tempted to buy an old diesel vehicle, and make my own fuel for it. It would be far cheaper on fuel, if the price of the vehicle can be justified.

There was talk when the New Beetle came out that they'd be offering a diesel eventually. I have yet to see one. That'd be my choice simply because of the 5 star collision safety plus I'd spend the $3000 to buy one of those BioDiesel kits I was talking about before to make my own fuel. I know lots of store managers around here at the fast food restaurants, I'd be up to my ears in waste vegetable oil in no time at all.

Ahh, I found info on the 2005/2006 VW diesels. They have a 1.9litre engine available on the New Beetle (base price $18,390), Jetta (base price $21,385) and Jetta Wagon (base price $19,930??) and a 2.0 litre available on the Passat and Passat Wagon.

*sighs* hope I can find a used one if fuel keeps going like it is...

Point me at some online info and I'll happily build my own kit. One of my dad's friends is one of the chemical engineers at the local refinery so I could get some other details from him too if need be. (I'll check google myself too of course)

Try the Appleseed style processor. It's both the most popular and the most user friendly. Less than the 150 estimate if you do it all yourself, or have some of the parts already.

Well...you don't want it leaking, so perhaps that's not so bad.

It was just the pressure valve at the top which is something you probably have to seal off anyway. My buddy had a slightly newer and double capacity hot water heater in his basement (his boiler now heats his hot water and he just has a holding tank) so instead of just replacing the valve I put in that larger hot water heater. Kind of nice to be able to bathe the kids, put them to bed and still have enough hot water left to take a long hot shower with my wife

Look for a 2003 or older Golf. They have a slightly de-tuned 1.9 liter diesel. The EPA estimate was 42mpg city, 49mpg highway.

They only had 90 horsepower, but who cares? No one's buying these things for their ability to peel out.

The older non-turbo engines only had about 50hp. But the torque in them you could drop the clutch and peel out at every light iffin you wanted to be a jackass

But with a stick, you can easily get 50+mpg on average. The issue on the newer engine is emission controls on the engines now, I believe they run an EGR system now.

The efficiency of the engine outweighs the price of the fuel, My old man's F-250 gets about 23-26mpg, were My F-150 gets at best 16mpg, quite a difference when you look at the weight of each truck. Shit the twin diesels on the boat gets about 3 gallons per mile, were the twin gas merc cruiser’s on our older boat were getting 15-16 gallons per mile.

The New Beetle has had the TDI engine available in it from day one.

I think my next car (in the way distant future) will likely be a VW GTI... I've always wanted a VW, but grew up in a Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge household.

Not sure of your government's stance on such things, but the British government flipped out a few years back when people realized they could run their diesel cars on vegetable oil from the supermarket. . .which was incidentally a helluva lot cheaper than fuel. They threatened to fine people for tax evasion, since they were avoiding paying fuel taxes.

Not sure whatever happened to the trend.

I believe the ATO got told where to shove it on that a few years back...I think there are a few excise issues on blends, but pure biodiesel is exempt now.

No it's like this man, in the good old US of A, they put road taxes on the gasoline to help pay for the upkeep of the roads. Not an issue of the Government makeing money.

I know in the North and Midwest you can see how the prices jump up because of this. Now Some states like NJ Here have toll roads that help keep the taxes low. And in the Farm land you will see Red dyed Fuel oil ment for offroad Use, meaning Tractors and farm eqipment, since it they are not on the road.
