Uh, no. Ever heard of Argumentum ad nauseum? What the majority believes is completely irrelevant. Unless you can back it with some facts, there is no reason to take your argument seriously and certainly no reason to legislate based on it.

Or maybe we should legislate based on religion too since that's all about mass-belief?

Nauseum is the fallacy that an argument repeated over and over again would somehow have more credit to it.

The other two apply as well, though.

FYI : I don't beleive that Marijuana is evil when taken in moderation.

I just beleive that most people (I am not saying everyone) cannot be trusted to be able to keep it moderate. I have heard (Not from any scientific/reputable source, mind you, but just through word of mouth... I'll see if I can't find some more reputable sources when I get home) that the THC in Marijuana is about as addictive as the nicotene in cigarettes, and I work side-by-side with so many people who can't control their nicotene habit... god knows what'd happen to them if they got their hands on a regular supply of weed.

If there is anything I am wholly against, it is cigarettes. I don't think there is any redeeming value to them. But I try not to argue that vehemently around here because I have friends here who smoke cigarettes, so...

As a frequent hash (even more THC!) and cigarette smoker I can say that it takes some serious tolerance to gobble up the same amount of THC as nicotine, because after two blunts you'll feel pretty stoned most of the time and I'll have to stop. On the other hand, I can chain smoke cigs like there's no tomorrow if it suits me.

That's pretty much my opinion as well. As a smoker of both, nicotine is much more addictive.

Skimmed it through. The dependancy numbers are especially interesting and supports that pot is way less addictive than Tobacco (1:5 users rather than almost 1:2) - though "used" doesn't differentiate from "tried once" and "smoked multiple times a week" so you have to adjust some for that.

The medical effects were interesting, and I most certainly do not dispute that they exist - but I find nothing in this study that supports that Marijuana would be terribly much worse for your health (and definitely not for the health of other people and society) than tobacco smoking.

I guess THC might be more addictive on a milligram for milligram basis, but in reality you can't consume 1/10th of THC that you can of nicotine

Physical addiction is on the low end of issues with marijuana, usually. Even extremely addictive substances like heroin do not cause addiction in all people who use them.

The only reason we keep it is because it's "productive". Too much/dependence creates a destructive pattern, though.

Average Cola is about 45 milligrams (12oz), whereas a cup of drip coffee is about 235 milligrams (8oz).

Coke is nasty anyways, it can dissolve a penny in a week.
