You can drop the details. Its possible to drop it to near Quake 2 details with some fooling around. I highly doubt you can't run Quake 2.

I can honestly say that Doom 3 is the scariest fucking game I've ever played. The superb use of lighting, sound, and monster spawning creates one fucking scary game. And I'm someone who doesn't normally get scared by games.

Now I can't wait for Saphire Scar (what was the System Shock 2 mod before EA "Fox'd" it) to come out. System Shock in this engine would be incredible... and give me a heart attack.

I'm a pussy and as such can't play the single player version of this game. Mods need to come out because basic deathmatch is retarted.

I was very scared when I entered that room with the weird-ass bloody things growing on all the walls and the pentagram in the middle.

It's a very scary game, guys. Seriously. It's all about atmosphere. It's dark everywhere, and evil, and you can see a zombie's eyes glowing red as they lunge out at you from the darkness....

wait until you get to the part where all the lights are off and you have to switch back and forth between your gun and your flashlight while fighting.

You mean, in Alpha Labs, when you enter and the zombies rush you?

Yeah, that was... fun... or something...

The thing that got me, I was expecting a lot more of the 'Shit suddenly jumps out at you and scares the fuck out of you' scary. I played the alpha for a while, and that's what happened a lot to me with the alpha. But so far, the thing that's got me the most is just how creepy it is. The ambient sounds, lighting, the way the levels are designed, even with no enemies in the game, it'd be a freaky as fuck game.

Yar, the atmosphere is what made Undying so good as a horror action game as well. I can't wait to try out Doom 3. Just hope my system can handle it well enough. Farcry doesn't give me any problems, but my video card (Radeon 9500 Pro) might be the only thing holding me back (2.5ish Processor, 1 GB ram, etc)

I can't legally buy it in England until this Friday, and it'll take that long to download, so I might as well wait and buy it.

AVP2's Marine missions scared the crap out of me (especially the first mission, god damn falling and hissing pipe!) so I expect to be pleasantly suprised with Doom 3.

Absolutely. It's got awesome graphics. I was playing it both on the low, and the high (But not ultra-high) settings, and it was incredible both ways.

My largest gripe so far, is that the grenades are nice, but tend to destroy overhead lights. Fighting in the dark isn't scary, per se, but having to swap between flashlight/shotgun/flashlight/shotgun gets annoying =/

If you want to see what it's like, go to my ftp ( ftp://ecroms:fluffy@205.208.222.10/Download/ ), and download the 'Doom3_Play1.avi' and 'Doom3_Play2.avi' files. They're 1/2 the resolution of the game at 1024x768, so they'll give you a good idea of how it'll look on 'low' detail.

The sound sucks, but that's because of the compression, not because of the game. The sound in the game is unbeleivably great

Just picked it up a few hours ago. Runs a little laggy but that's because everyone I'm running is good except my processor.

It's cool though except that my HUD fucks up and makes these odd streaks across the screen. I can play without the HUD just fine but...that makes things a tad bit more difficult then need be. Anyone had any ideas? I have the latest drivers (Radeon 9800). I think it's just my processor.

EDIT: Picked it up 5 minutes after they were dropped off and I was just in the Mall for clothes so I guess I got lucky.
