I've been playing NS since release night and it hasn't seemed THAT long.. Two years? It might be closer to like 1.3 years or something.. I dunno. But anyhow, just the way you phrased it made it sound like 3+.
*shrug*
UT 2k4: I haven't tried this, but from what I've heard, it's awesome. It is the god of all Unreal. Also from what I've heard, however, it requires a *TOP-O'-THE-LINE* system, and will run poorly on anything less. That could, however, be attributed to the fact that it was just released, and the devs need to work a bit on the graphics engine and stuffs. Patching fixed the lag I was having in UT, so it might do so here as well. One more thing, however... It's certain that high-speed internet will be *required*, so us 56Kers are out.
CS: HL, all skill and a bag o' chips, and while being an older game, we need high-speed. NS can be lumped under this as well.
Tribes 2: Once again, us 56Kers can't participate. Hey, it isn't my fault I can't get cable!
UO: Another good one. Old game, works on 56K and old systems, and allows pretty much complete freedom in character creation and development. However, time spent is the deciding factor here. He who has no life, finishes first. Corp por.
NWN: It's certain that HotU will be required, and NWN can run a bit slowly on some older systems. I ahve all graphics options turned the lowest possible, and no music, and it still runs a little choppy. 500MHz AMD K7, 512MB PC133, ATi RADEON 7500. However, it's very good on bandwidth, meaning us 56Kers can adventure with everyone else. We have to be careful with multiclass balancing, however. There are too damn many Fighter/Barbarian/Weapon Masters out there already, same with (Insert melee class here)/Sorceror/Red Dragon Disciples. Simply because they are the best multiclass combination in all of NWN, period. When you can cast Hellball to wipe out (WIPE OUT!) powerful opponents, or dual-weild scimitars (SCIMITARS! 1d6 damage SCIMITARS!) and instantly (INSTANTLY!) kill everything (EVERYTHING!) in one hit (I'M GONNA STOP REPEATING EVERYTHING IN ALL CAPS NOW!)... Well, you get the "own3d" picture. OTOH, if we take the good equipment and spells away, everyone (EVERY- Oh, sorry.) will whine that their uber character of Lu Bu-raping is actually balanced with everyone else instead of being top-o'-the-foodchain. In short, this one's a maybe.
MUDs: I love MUDs! Hey, you think we can get an EC LoRD? Or how about BRE? Ah, the good ol' days of text-based gaming...
Ruvyen clicks The Box(TM), and promptly explodes.

Yeah, you got it figured out you idiot. I've played a lot of NS actually, and this will shock you, but it's not THAT great. Get over it and obsess over something else.
Drysart fired him though. He's in that big whore house in the sky now. Kickin' it with Robomod.

I'm wondering where you're finding this 12.99 Gold Edition and 19.99 HotU at. That was really the only reason I made my other thread, because it was so cheap. But I can't find the Gold Edition for less than 39.99, or HotU for less than 29.99 anywhere.

Fae lives in some magic county where game prices are always 50% off it would seem...his prices never match anything I can find at a dozen different retail or discount stores.
I'm also dismayed at the lack of open source on the most popular UO emulators.
However, RunUO runs beautifully through my .NET Decompiler to C#... I *might* be able to patch it up to run under Linux. Drysart fucked around with this message on 04-13-2004 at 01:43 AM.

I even went to Walmart out here and it wasn't 29.99/39.99!
It was... 29.82 and 39.82!

Uh.. such as? The only game prices I have quoted were NWN and UT. I do believe I also provided linkage in UT's case.
I'm probably messed up somehow on NWN, but I'll check it out again tomorow when I go in town.
And believe it or not, you know, Texas does have sale prices below other places on quite a few things. For example if you are refering to the PS2 price thing, I wasn't the only one who could attest to that, and those are local deals. Just because your store doesn't offer em isn't my fault.

I;m betting I screwed up and that tag was for original NWN since all three boxes are usually together. It was the only thing I could come up with misquoting it.

Why, Mr. Drysartson? Why do you do it? Why get up? Why keep fighting? Do you believe you're fighting for something? For more than your survival? Can you tell me what it is? Do you even know? Is it freedom? Or truth? Perhaps peace? Yes? No? Could it be for love? Illusions, Mr. Drysartson. Vagaries of perception. The temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose. And all of them as artificial as Evercrest itself, although only a human mind could invent something as insipid as love. You must be able to see it, Mr. Drysartson. You must know it by now. You can't win. It's pointless to keep fighting. Why, Mr. Drysartson? Why? Why do you persist?

Yeah, that kind of pisses me off. I know POL isn't open source, and I don't think Sphere is either (even if it is, it sucks), so your best bet would probably be UOX, but it also sucks.

My first experience with UO was running across mountains to a house of my friends.. then getting ambushed by orcs as I got disconnected. I logged back in as a ghost, ran back, and found my "corpse" gone.
I eventually dyed my deathrobe blue and ran around smithing.

You know, like every other time I played UO. ;p
This would probably be something you would want to put up in ADDITION to another server of some type without those issues. If you can anyway, I dunno how resource intensive or bandwidth intensive UO would be on a server or anything like that. Kinda in the same way that NWN would only be good "in addition too".

With the fact you dont have to be that attentive when you are playing? And the fact those who have infinite amounts of time on thier hands can keep going while the rest of us do other things? Or the fact we are coming up on summer which means the younger crowd of coledge goers and school people are going to be out of school with nothing to do?
I think it can get pretty seperate pretty fast. Look at any of the MMORPG trends that have passed and you can see good examples of it. FFXI, SWG, EQ, etc. There are always lots of people being left behind, and others too far ahead, and it just seperates out.
NWN would suffer from similar, although not to as much a degree, still a bad choice for a main server in the long run.
Either way it could be fun I guess, so eh.
Actually, I'd be happy with just about anything besides a FPS...

I agree, just something to be wary of.
And if at all possible make it a secondary server, like I said, dunno if it is. So people who would enjoy that can still play on there, but it wouldn't be the MAIN fad. I think Tribes 2 is winning regardless anyway.

Did you play the EC Trade Wars? It was horrible. Within days there were people with hundreds of millions of plat and hundreds of thousands of points.
