That's the one I'd really really like to use, but it doesn't run under Mono, which pretty much takes it out of consideration.

An implementation of the .NET CLR and Framework for Linux. The problems seem to be a couple bugs somewhere in Mono's System.Xml, and the presence of some P/Invoke calls in RunUO.

The netcode for Tribes2 isn't that bad, Fae. Stop trashing it.

That's really shitty. I'd recommend you go with POL then, if it's supported by Linux.
Which emulator did you have in mind yourself? Please don't say Sphere.

Seriously. The netcode in Tribes 2 is actually really good. Extremely good considering what's going on and when it was made. Fae just wants to play UT.

UT has so much less data to transmit, too. But for the time, HL was the only real thing to compare it to.. and you couldn't even do that, really. If I had a 70 ping on an HL server with no "jumping", I'd have the same on a tribes2 server on the same IP address. I think fae is recalling playing T2 on dialup, or something.
Hay, if Tribes and T2 become part of the "EC Fad rotation™", does this mean we'll get Counterstrike, UO, UT, Tribes and Tribes2 tags? If that's the case, we'll only need one more to make the "add reply" screen a perfect box of tags!

I should've also voted for Tribes 2, because I'd rather have it than UT, if only because I lost my copy of UT.

Uh hey, Jackass, I voted for Tribes 2.
I have issues with the NetCode, and I am NOT the only one. It was complained about the last time, and not by me, it was takin like a second or two on really large games for shots to register, and made tracking flying players damn near impossible in some places. I istalled it recently too in fact get in a game since Bummey and some others showed interest, and same issues, so bite me.
I own every game listed up there (cept UT2K4 ), so I will play any that fly. My push for UT was from before, because, to be quite honest, it is the most accesable MP game of the list. And you can't deny that, for the novice, or limited skill people, even Tribes 2 can be quite difficult and frustrating. UT has a wider range of accessability. UT2k4: Awesome game, potential for a LOT of fun. UT2k4RPG mutator allows building of characters and overall fun, and there are cooperative mutators so people wouldn't whine when Nem headshots them from across the map. Vehicle mutation is one of my favourites, especially with the manta (Kegwen and them were right, it's the best vehicle) gibbing anything it comes across. Again, botplay is a plus.
Counter-Strike: Old, HL based, runs on most computers, but we get the problem of whining again when skill decides 99% of games.
Tribes/T2: Again, will run on most older systems, potential for fun (Shrike/bomber races! Tee hee!), and potential for serious play. Plenty of mods out there, yet stock play is great.
UO: Free, super old, runs on 99.9999% of machines, free, fun, no Peekays, free, and stuff.
NWN: Haven't played it at all, so I canna comment.
Natural Selection (Because you know I had to put it out there.): HL based, free, runs on most computers, blah blah. In-game training would be a must, since it's rather complicated, but once you learn the ropes, it's a lot of fun. The potential for goofing off is inherent because of the resource system (Let's place looooooots of mines for no reason at all! lololz!), yet serious games can be had. Combat is more of a straightforward team DM, but overall, it's easy to get into, hard to get out of.
Original UT, T2, UO and maybe NS (Fuck, just try it, you dinguseseses!) would be good rotations.

UO client is available for free from gamespot.com.
Would love a UO, especially the PVP type scenario you mentioned.
NWN would be great! Would love it if, as other posters suggested, we could all add portions off the main world.
Counterstrike and UT2k4 would be fun as well.
Haven't tried tribes or tribes2, but willing to try once they are free.
ie: NWN should still be able to be acessable even if there is an EC Tribes 2, or UT Server or whatnot going.
Since to be perfectly honest, even on Dial Up, a person can host a NWN Game with up to 8 people without a hint of lag. It's not very bandwidth intensive at all. That would also allow for a NWN server to exist that evolved over time as parts were added to it. Since it could co-incide with any other EC Server Fad that may be going at that time.
You would have to make sure it coincides with the version everyone (or at least the majority I guess) has of NWN too though. Maybe a separate poll is in order, seeing how many people have NWN, NWN: SoU, and NWN: HotU heh. Nirrudn fucked around with this message on 04-12-2004 at 04:24 PM.

True, especially since anyone wanting to add mods TO the world would have to be using the most common build of NWN, since if you edit a Mod having all the expansions installed, even if you dont use anything FROM those expansions, it flags your mod as requiring them.
It's probably a safe bet that anyone who voted for NWN probably has all the expansions however. Or at least SoU. Which makes the $12.99 NWN Gold Edition feasible as an option.
All in all, NWN Gold Edition (Which includes SoU) is around $12.99, and HotU is at most $19.99.
