Someone make a Warrior and post screenshots of you showing off your 1337 combat skills!
Thief: "I have come to a realisation. Dragons are not real in a general sense, but they may exist in certain specific cases."
Fighter: "Like how quantum mechanics describes how subatomic particles can spontaneously pop into existence at random!"
Thief: "No, that's stupid and stop making up words."

Bajah, I request rogue screenshots showing a chain of attacks ending with a finisher, is there a nice graphical display for the orbs/dots/whatever that you build up with your openers to unleash with the finisher? I must see

Also, are there different attack animations for each?

Wtf are orbs/dots/whatever? Do you mean, hotkey icons?

Different races have different animations for different attacks. Some different moves use the same animations, but most are different. There's nifty graphics that show in the air that everyone can see, too. I've really never had a good look at them, but they're akin to slash marks or something. I play a warrior so I can't really have 100% accuracy on these claims

When rogues use their special moves and build up whatever to make their finishers super powered. Don't little dots fill up or something?

Oh. Having never played a rogue myself, I've only noticed a yellow bar that runs parrallel to Rogue's health bars that fills up/decreases as they use their moves. (Yes, it can be seen by everybody. It's right where caster's mana bars would be, or Warrior's rage bars.)

Rogues might see something different, though I doubt it.

Did you ever play/see someone play a Assassin in D2x? When they use their charge up skills little colored orbs float around the character.

There is nothing of that sort in this game. Just a bar.

sigh. In D2x, you used combo moves that "charged" a creature for a finishing blow. The more charges, the more damage the finishing blow did.

In WoW, it seems, doing combo moves charges a bar (like mana or rage bars) that can be used for finishing moves. Since the combo moves are on a timer (I would assume), you can't just tigerkick over and over, or whatever.

No. D2 Assassins charge themselves.

Nothing.

Considering removing the racial advantages? Heh, they're already deactivated. Wouldn't surprise me if they didn't make it for release. And if they don't, the only difference in race will be the way you look. (Which is enough for me personally.)

Yeah, WoW rogues have two kinds of attacks, basically, openers and finishers. Openers add dots, or bars, or whatever, up to 5. Finishers require at least one dot (I am calling them dots), and do more damage based upon the amount of dots you've built up on that mob. So you bust out some combos on the mob, build up a full 5 charges, and slam them with you finishing move that like rips the spine clear out of the mob.

According to the ability info up on wow.warcrafy, they referred to 'em as dots. Charges work too I suppose, but that is what I am going by until Blizz gets around to updating worldofwarcraft.net

That's a little disappointing. I was looking forward to the races being a little different from each other.

This doesn't mean Tauren don't get plains running anymore, does it? And also, did you know what the racial advantages were for the Orcs, Trolls, Gnomes, Night Elves, and Tauren?

Tauren will still have plainsrunning, simply because they couldn't have a mount, and all the races need mount-capable speeds somehow.

Night elves had Shadowmeld and Nature magic resistance, I know that much off the top of my head

I suppose it's for the best, would be hard to effectively plunder and pillage a town when the NE behind you is commenting on the delightful floral arrangement that house over there is using. It just sort of kills the buzz.

No doubt. They'd have their uses as ammo when we ran out of boulders for the catapults, though. Or as mounts!

Eh. A few. Our undead buddies seem to be keeping it up pretty good, too.

But we're even better at that than you. Our guys only have to offer their souls (not a big deal in the way for the undead), but I hear that for a gnome warlock to summon a creature, he has to sacrifice twice the amount of soul shards and do a little cheerleader dance.

Gimme a bit, Vorago... I'll get the rogue screenies you're asking for, along with an explanation.

As for pros and cons, I haven't really played it enough or gotten high enough level to do much other than explore and level grind, but I'll give you a basic one from my simple experiences.

Pros

  • Class Customization: You can literally buy different skills as you qualify for them if you want them, not not everyone will have the same abilities (though they do have the capability to have the same stuff). Other abilities can be learned through skill points, which are not endless, for further customization.

  • Leveling/Soloing is time-consuming, but possible with every class I've tried so far... and I've tried all the ones currently available.

  • Less is More -- Spell Effects, Style Effects... Particle Effects in general, look good but not overly done.

  • No Lag -- I can't run a straight line in Housing for DAoC due to lag and I've got a fairly impressive system. I can charge into lush jungles in WoW and no lag at all.

  • Dance: It's something I wanted in DAoC for a very long time. Each race and then each gender therein has their own /dance... worth a mention in the Pros list to me.

  • Tradeskills: They took the lack of being boring idea from DAoC, which is good, and spruced it up by taking a page from SWG -- You just need the ingredients in your inventory, then click on the recipe you wanna make, and click the create button.

  • Every class is DIFFERENT. It's like I was telling Timpo earlier, if you were in EQ and took a level 5 character of each melee class, you essentially had 5 people who could do exactly the same stuff with maybe only small differences. Same thing with DAoC until you choose your profession and even then you have the same baseline spells as every other caster class or the same weapon styles as every other melee class. Here, though, even at level one, every class is obscenely different. Rogues use an energy bar to allow them to use their attacks and finishers. Warriors use Rage. Casters have mana. I enjoy this more than anything. Your class actually has a chance to stand out and -any- level, not just when you're high enough level to have access to really good class abilities.

    Cons

  • No Horde yet.

  • I haven't been grouped yet.

  • Uhhhh
