If I might make a small suggestion. Rather than either of these ideas, I think a good thing would be for Drysart to encourage his moderators to take a more active interest in things.

Take this example. There's a thread. There's trolling and disagreements and flaming. The thread gets locked. All the comments are still left there, though.

So since we gravitate to locked threads like bees to honey, they're still read and still reacted upon. Either here on the boards in another thread, or in IRC, or PMs, or whatever.

I myself would like to see more posts edited for content rather than a thread just locked. That way the problem doesn't exist anymore. I know the word will still get around about it. We all ask about posts that are edited. But the post won't be there for someone to see and give a link to and reference back to, etc etc.

I think editing in lieu of locking would assure that we can keep some threads that are getting a bit heated from becoming flaming piles of poo.

I do not agree that editing threads would help. It would make the people who got edited all that more upset, even it was just a joke that was edited.

Also, the mods would then become the ultimate word on what could and couldn't be said, I do not like that idea at all. I just know I'd not like if one of my posts was misunderstood or taken out of context and edited.

edit: really, I meant to leave those words out.

I'm not in favor of editing for content, either.

Everyone knows that once a thread is locked, new threads on the same topic are verboten. And PMs already have an ignore function, if someone is trolling via PM. IRC is a different venue entirely.

If they were innocent bystanders then they wouldn't have done anything to get banned.

You smell that? Do you smell that? ...Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory.

Fae, Bloodsage - I was asked my personal feelings, and I responded with them. As other ideas have come up, I've given my feelings on them. I haven't given any ideas of my own yet, other than those already answered back there about the self-enabling of the Ludicrous-Ignore, so you have no reason to further discuss my thoughts here.

This is an individual polling of opinion, so Drys can see what people are interested in. You gave him yours. I gave him mine. A rebuttal to my commentary is quite pointless, as I didn't say your suggestion wouldn't in any way function. I just don't find it personally appealing. There's certainly no need to *campaign* for any option, especially since this is just to shape his thoughts. He still has final authority, always.

Any actual disagreement with my opinions should be taken out of this thread and to PM, because I don't want to shape anyone's personal feelings on this choice with a debate. ESPECIALLY in a thread created because Drys is being annoyed by arguments between factions. This effects everyone, so it'd be nice to see everyone respond based on their own honest opinions - not based on a debate between a set number of sides trying to present their own agendas.

Here's a thought: let me decide what is or is not a valuable use of my time. I assure you that I know much better than you on that account.

Further, simply because you think apathy is somehow noble doesn't mean the rest of us ought to. The world would be a shitty place, indeed, if everyone followed your advice and simply let things happen as they may, with no effort to shape them for the better.

Do what you will, but rest content knowing you do so only because others take the initiative to make the world safe and civilized.

That's pretty funny.

When I said it was hypocritical of you to swear start insulting me via PM, you said you were simply continuing this conversation in a more appropriate venue. Yet, in the very next breath, you castigate me for not replying in the original medium?

And the moronic, "I'm just toying with you, therefore everything I say is stupid and pointless on purpose," doesn't fool anyone.
