I might be able to get one so I can quit stealing the one from my roommate's twink...
quote:
Random Insanity Generator had this to say about John Romero:
As I have said before, there is Twinking, and then there is Item Abuse.Twinking would be handing your rogue some Kunark armor and some decent weapons.
Item Abuse would be a full set of MQ Kael armor, a Fungi, and some of the dragon dropped daggers.
In the first instance, you're going to get that anyway at some point, or you're going to get close to it. You're not an unkillable machine, you're just resistant. The second instance, you're a juggernaut. You don't need the group, you ARE the group.
Verant is going back and correcting issues of Item Abuse. Notice that the Iksar BP hasn't been changed? It's only 19 AC and 6 HP a tick. At level 1, you're pratically unkillable, but that stops being true as you hit double digits. With a Fungi and some other minor items I can be pratically unkillable into the 20's....
I'm guility of the Dragn daggers, and Fungi .. but so what? I am still learning to play my rogue, and I will keep learning, no matter what gear I have on. But I like wearing what I have earned.
First it was that I don't devolpe the charecter, now its just that i'm a juggernaught .. No matter what you say, I am devolping the charecter, just in a diffrent way.

Its more of Verants fault for putting in items like this, as is. They know if they put a tunic that all but int casters can wear, with a massive regen, that is not no drop .. Twinking is going to happen. THey need to think more. And for that, monks, and other classes that really need them, have a chance to get shafted.
Major difference. There are tanks on my server that are phenominal. They mow through shit like it's nothing. Great aggro managemnt skills. They do it all. And there's one SPECIFIC one that I go out of my way to group with if at all possible. Slightly lesser gear typically, but every bit the professional in his class that the others are. I see him out and group with him because of his Character. He's a Halfling warrior. As a person he's great guy, as are the other tanks, but when he's actually playing in character it's even better. First thing he loots upon getting rezed is his food. "Most important thing I own is my food pack! Without my food... I'm hungry!"
THAT is the difference. You're the former... you play the class well, you have the gear, but I have heard *0* about Character. Getting accusomed to responding as the Character, not as you, takes time. Getting a chance to build a "life story" that you can BS with others about.
So because I don't roleplay? Because each of my charecters doesn't have a diffrent personality, means its wrong? What does any of that have to do with a fungi, anyways. Most of the complaints I have heard were not earning the item, or not learning to really how to play the class ..
Again, I respect all that, But I am not a role playing person, I play Everquest because it is fun, and because I enjoy the people I play with. (well .. MOST of the people I play with).

Edit: Nevermind, I see what all you just said has to do with the fungi .. the time it takes. But none the less, the rest of my posts I still stand by.
All I've really said so far was that the approach you (and seemingly LOTS of others) is better suited to Single Player games or games like Quake... Games that are designed to move fast and not have any kind of "lasting impression"...
Well, I need to go to bed .. so lets just agree to disagree, eh? We are getting nowhere. [ 04-10-2002: Message edited by: Eumin Enchantiflyer ]

It's just that with most gear, by the time you can get it yourself, it's pretty much useless for your level. This sucks like a blond college chick on spring break [/QB]
Problem is that many shaman, even at 60 still wear the fungi becaue of it's regen, unless they find a compelling item. Fungi was too overpowering and I'm glad they restricted instead of removing it.
By the way, you guys sound like a bunch of Prostitutes arguing over who lost their virginity first.
IT IS ALL OPINION! NONE OF YOU ARE RIGHT! [ 04-11-2002: Message edited by: Comrade_Snoota ]
They even got some Tailoring gear recommended lvl 40+ (ie the shaded hide armor: tunic AC 22, STR 10, STA 7, CHA 5, INT 8, HP 20, mana 20, all saves +5, wt 0.7)
Its important to have an objective view when looking at these matters. VERY important.
I'm one of the few people who see a change in everquest and think WHY it needed to be done, instead of "OMFG THIS SO IS AGAINST ME!!!11". Believe it or not, Verant wants the game to be fair for everyone. Hear that? Everyone. Not just the people who get a fungi and become invulnerable, not the people who have full Kael MQ armor..
Yes, this is a game. But it is a game with other people playing the exact same thing as you. Meaning that they should(will) get the EXACT same chance as you. If ONE ITEM allows you a VERY LARGE advantage over everyone else in the game, that is not good.
Let me repeat that.
If ONE ITEM gives you an advantage SO LARGE over everything else below 20 or so, then that item is BROKEN AS ALL HELL. Got it?
I am personally against twinking. I earned every damned peice of armor on me myself, and I'm honestly rather heartbroken that some idiot can come along, encouraged to try EQ by his friends, given equipment thats better then MINE for gods sake, and never really experience the game.
As for learning the class, most people dont even do that. S'why I'm leaving Legends. The guild is falling apart like a cheap blowupdoll, and @#)(@ forbid I should get in a group with fag twinks that dont know how to bloody pull, especially in KC. That and Snaggle sux for taunting. Hell, every warrior I've seen on Legends sucks ASS for keeping aggro.
Case in point: Kael arena. 3 groups. More then we *really* need. For the hell of it, since we're all bored, I dare anyone.. ANYONE to taunt off me on the next PoZ.
Cinexa chains sunstrike. Enchanter chain tashes (stops after landing, and starts nuking, heh..), the shaman slows.. but nothing gets that damned giant off me because I know how to keep that mob on ME for as long as I want. Hell, I stopped attacking for a good minute and they couldnt pull the sucker off me. I got summoned five times..
Whee! that was a long post. I'm gonna go get something to eat now.

Right, so, because I can't afford a Fungi, hoping prices drop so that I can makes me jealous. That makes SO MUCH FUCKING SENSE.

Perhaps "rather egoistical" is a better term for that particular situation. You wish for an item to get nerfed for a bunch of people (while not affecting it for you, should you ever acquire it) so the item's price will drop, which allows you to buy one, since you don't have the patience and/or time to get it yourself or the money to buy it currently.

I would have been glad if it HAD happened, but I don't care if it doesn't. Quit while you're ahead.

Enchanter chain tashes (stops after landing, and starts nuking, heh
Chain Tashing != "stop tashing after it lands"
Tash is unresistable, any enchanter that chain tashes to get it to hold, you need to leave right away. Lol. (tash aggro is huge, I must say, though) Some .. well .. Lots of level 60s can't even play thier class well, and for that, makes twinking bad.
I, personaly, never said it was something agenst me. Verant should have put this item in the game with kunark with a resriction, or some diffrence. I agree to that, they make stupid mistakes sometimes.
What I was argueing was people telling me I'm wrong, and not playing how I *should*, because I have a twink with a fungi. If verant changes it to 50 (which seems to not be the case anymore), I will just put it on my ranger. woopdedo.
Like you, Delphi, I have earned every single peice of equipment on every charecter. But Verant has never stated that any person must fight certian mobs with a certian type of equipment, exact for that level. If this was true, almost every item would be either no drop, or have the level limit on it already.
Not even verant can tell me how to play, as long as I follow thier rules. I pay my 10 (13, now, I guess) a month, and untill anyone else pays for me, Don't tell me how to play. I break no rules, and I have been through the low level game twice, the hard way. now I have a little help I like to call a fungi, and some nice daggers.
Now, if any of that doesn't make sense, Its because I'm Playing PS2 also, while typing. :b
God damm you BM, I was having fun laughing at this thread. Why'd you have to go and ruin that? Then again, you posted boobies... so I guess that makes up for it.

Haha, I have sold about 50 of thoes in my time playing. Good money, easy quest .. just a lot of running. Nothing wrong with that.

No, its NOT jealousy. I'd simply like to see the game played as it was meant to be played, not so unbalanced by ONE ITEM that it makes said lower levels a complete and utter joke.

Not *every* enchanter has the level 60 drop version of tash. Hell, our enchanter couldnt even give C2, kay?
Besides, a tank nuking (yes, a TANK, NUKING. You heard me. ), then stunning, then taunting, and doing 30-60 damage every few seconds PLUS bash is going to outdo your tash *every* time. The only problem is you spend a lot less mana on tash then I do on nuke/stun.
