I personally have a PS2 and a GBA.

Lets just face it, XBox doesnt have very many great games out. They have a few good ones, and a couple great ones, but most of them seem to suck.

Wow. Way to miss the point, Fal!
To answer the question: Because the X-Box has the largest potential of any console available at the moment.

And the XBOX has been out for 4 months? 5?
Not too terribly long. Alot of good games don't come out till a year-ish after the system releases.
I just get the odd feeling that is Sony had made the XBOX it would be hailed as the holygrail of gaming, even with its current library. But because its microsoft, people look at it FAR FAR more than they should, and their outlook on the system is crap from the beginning.
What did the PS2 have that was any good in the first 6 months to a year? Nothin I remember hearing talk that Sony had "rushed" the ps2, that the Dreamcast was gonna beat it out. Where is the PS2 now, though?
And the XBOX has far more than one good game. HALO, DOA3 (and not just for the graphics and jiggling breasts), Project Gotham Racing...
I just dont think alot of people take the XBOX for a system on its own merits, and think that because it was put out by microsoft that all the games are inherently bad, and crap. They arent. Sure, there ARE some crappy games, some games that HAVE potential and blow it, but arent there ALWAYS games like that?
At least the GameCube will get recognition now. I wonder though, why people dont bash the cube NEARLY as much when it has less good games than the XBOX? I mean...SSB:M, and...SSBM, and, well, SSBM. thats about it. The GameCube WILL have some great games down the line though, and its far from a crappy system. not SUPPORTING people bashing it, just wonder WHY they latched onto the xbox like a school of pirahnas

Which is pretty much DOA 2 - the photo gallery(THOSE FIENDS!), from what I played.
Now, it's PS2 vs. X-Box. But the difference is that you could easily put a Halo or a DOA3 or a Munch's Oddysee (sp?) on a PS2; it just wouldn't be quite so smooth looking. And... that's all.
The hardware has reached a point where there's nothing left to do but make a game look photo-realistic, and that just doesn't matter.
There is no serious potential difference between these two consoles.

Super Nintedo to Playstation was a quantum leap forward for consles. Titles like Resident Evil weren't impressive because of the way they looked, but because the player was able to explore and interact with the environment (and shoot zombies) in ways that were impossible on the SNES or Genesis. Now, it's PS2 vs. X-Box. But the difference is that you could easily put a Halo or a DOA3 or a Munch's Oddysee (sp?) on a PS2; it just wouldn't be quite so smooth looking. And... that's all.

And that is why, right now, the PS2 is the superior system -- It has the gameplay.
But you are right. The biggest profits will come in Innovation now, new ways to play games. We gained the ability to explore 3d worlds, as you said, with the PS1, and that was a huge leap. There is only so far graphics can take a game, though.
I think as soon as the XBOX starts to get some GOOD RPGs, though, it will get its chance to jump ahead of the PS2.
And that brings up another question totally: What are the next couple generations of game systems gonna be like? (Think: PS3, XBOX2, GameCube2) Where will the innovation be? Graphics arent gonna be able to get much better or anything...we dont have the technology...
...yet
And there are great games out for X-Box currently.
Tell me, how many "great" games were out immediately after PS2's launch?
Frankly, I find Square games boring, ugly, and just plain silly. Especially the FF series. Just not my thing.

There are some things left to do, but they would mainly be niches or gimmicks, not full out revolutions for the gaming community. For example, 100% terrain malleability, superior enemy AI, a revamped FF8 that doesn't suck...
quote:
Sorry, but graphics is immersion, and immersion is a good thing.
Look at a PS2 game.
Look at an X-Box game.
It's just not a big difference.
Furthermore, for a game to be totally immersive, it would have to be totally realistic.
That's not a good thing.

The Japanese hate American made products. Electronics and games are their department. If Microsoft begins to take over the gaming community, do you think that the Japanese are going to go 'Oh, let's throw our country's main export down the toilet by buying all these American made imports!'.
Japanese support is what either makes or breaks a console. Sure, the X-Box is good for American made games, sure it's good for PC ports, and sure, it's good for lots of 'features'. But it's the Japanese Support that is needed! All I see are mainly American game companies making games for it. Don't complain to me, I know that Capcom and some others have games lined up and some already released. I'm going to leave my gaming up to the Japanese though. Because...
A) I love Japan.
B) They make the best games.
and C)I don't want to play video games which I can just buy for my computer.

Good point, the Japanese make most of the best games, the X-Box has to play by ear because they don't have a lot of Japanese support. The PS2 does though. And gameplay > Graphics IMO

Just because the japanese support a console doesnt mean it will succeed. Because they dont support it doesnt mean it WONT succeed.
They made games for the dreamcast, and where is it now? Sure, They make damn good games, but saying american companies DONT make good games is, well, crap.
And Im sorry, but games DESIGNED for the xbox and ported to the pc will be better on the xbox. Why? They are designed to use a controller. The game developers sit there, say "OK, how can we make this game play so it will work well with a controller" and don't worry as much about a keyboard and mouse setup. Keyboard and mouse is great for certain genres. RTS, FPS, RPGs come to mind. Consoles work best with platformers, RPGs, Driving games, and fighting games. Sure, you can get a game controller for your computer, but if im using a controller, id rather be playing that game on a console.
Console games wont be as buggy as pc games, or as crash prone, either. They are developed for one piece of hardware, and developers dont have to worry about "Well, this fixes it on one system but breaks it on another.
*shrug* Wow, I rambled.

Japanese support is DEFINATELY needed. Here's a little question for you... WHY did Microsoft do this...
"Each of the limited edition systems came with a special engraved keychain with Bill Gates' signature."
Limited Edition ones in Japan only BTW.
Oh, and is it me, or do the majority of X-Box owners prefer first person shooters while PS2 owners prefer RPGs?
[10 dollars to whoever can answer this question: What was the very first 3D game for the PC?]

My guess is Wolfenstein, but I may have misunderstood the question.
Unless a gamer cannot afford multiple systems, they will quite often own at least 2 of the current generation systems, if not all of them.

Ultima Underworld came out ONE WEEK before wolfenstein. It has way better graphics and gameplay than Wolfenstein, plus a lot more Replay value. Good job Mog!
