Yeah the game is made by a bunch of Japs apparently. Now the other players in co-op are elites (the first other player is the Arbiter), you can rip off gun turrets and carry them around, there are a number of new vehicles, grenades, and weapons, there are multiple endings, you can modify item placement in multiplayer in-game, new graphax, you finish the fight, etc. Also there is a point system that keeps track of how you play the game which can be used as competition in online co-op

But gameplay wise no, not really, other than the fact that there's a hammer that bounces back projectiles

That was fun. Beat it on Normal; Legendary is probably next.

Replays are fantastic. The three days of free Live will likely get me to subscribe for a year.

You could do that in Gears? Where? I seriously never saw this

Also the turret thing is pretty neat. It worked a lot better in this game than it did in Lost Planet. It's all about implementation, breh

Unfortunately, Bungie couldn't really change the formula much. I doubt they were allowed to take many (if any) risks with Halo 3. Microsoft needed it to be a guaranteed success. Bungie did their best to iterate on everything (including their engine, apparently) as best they could without reinventing anything.

It'll probably have more polish than any game this year, but it's just be the next iteration of Halo 2 with a few new features. Nothing revolutionary. Hell, after playing the Halo 3 multiplayer I wasn't really able to go back to Halo 2. The difference in the way the game played was significant enough to make Halo 2 hard to play.

Bungie is capable of much better, but I think Microsoft Game Studios needed something very specific and they delivered the best they could within those constraints. I still consider it a fun game.

The flood aren't even different in this game haha, what are you talking about? They're still just the same annoying-as-fuck, fake-difficult spamguys that populated the earlier games.

The bigger ones are a lot more aggressive and the little ones explode in bunches now, which is nice.

I dunno, for whatever reason I found flood levels aggravating in Halo 2 but they didn't really bother me in this game

They're not infinite, but there are a lot of 'em. You're better off running through that level and killing what you have to, rather than clearing everything.

The first time you run into the Flood isn't bad at all, wide open areas and there aren't that many, so yeah.

Single player is really only about 15% fighting flood, it just seems longer because the shit level is shitty. The hornet and scarab sequences easily make up for it, and if you're avoiding Halo 3 just because you don't want to fight the Flood, you're missing out.

I still don't understand why people hate the flood.

I think they're pretty scary and a lot of fun to fight. It's the covenant that I don't really like, especially now that there's so many goddamn snipers.

I guess it depends in what you're looking for in a FPS game.

I like furious, throw 100 enemies at you twitch gameplay like Serious Sam's.

I also like squad-based, tactical duck & cover stuff like Gears of War or GRAW.

I guess I just don't like going from one to the other randomly in the course of the same game.

It's from Halo 1 and it's a whole lot better than the Battle Rifle is in this game

I very strongly disagree with that sentiment.

It's not accurate enough to get reliable headshots like you can with the BR, and it doesn't really have a whole lot of stopping power either. It beats the crap out of the SMG, but you can dual wield the SMG and that means a plasma pistol and that means killing shielded targets with absolute ease, which you can't do with the AR.

I guess I'm just finding a complete lack of a niche for this weapon in a world with dual wielding and battle rifles.

Kegwen
Sonyfag

It's a balanced all-around weapon. It's mainly tailored to multiplayer as a weapon to spawn with. Halo 2's SMG was awful for a starting weapon.

I don't like the battle rifle for frantic situations, anyway.

the battle rifle is terrible in this game for everything but sniping when you don't have a sniper

the assault rifle is alright, but seriously this game needed far more regular plasma rifles

Maradon!
posted 09-29-2007 12:11:56 AM
The battle rifle is the only weapon in the game besides the magnum and sniper rifles that it's worth even trying to shoot people in the head with.

If you're even remotely good at getting headshots, there's no reason to ever be caught without it.

The regular plasma rifles suffer from the same crap that the assault rifle does - they're a close-to-medium range weapon without that much stopping power. I guess someone is able to use such things but they don't fit anywhere into my own strategy.

the Plasma Rifle has a retarded amount of stopping power against pretty much everything in the game, especially the flood (other than the huge fuckers)

headshotting is pretty worthless with my own strategy honestly because i usually just pump em full of lead, run in and hit them with a melee

Maradon!
posted 09-29-2007 12:33:44 AM
I must have a different appraisal of a "retarded amount" because I can shoot a plasma rifle at anything shielded until the the rifle overheats and not kill them. In fact I can fire at almost anything until it overheats and the thing is still standing.

It does about as well as the assault rifle in most cases, but at least you can duel wield the damn things with a plasma pistol so they aren't totally worthless.

Spikers are better than Plasma Rifles in nearly every conceivable way.

The Assault Rifle is awesome, just because. It's actually able to kill people, unlike the standard starting guns in Halo 1 and 2.

Spikers are pretty cool, but I like not having to reload my Plasma rifle better and it seems I just get more life out of them. Spikers only carry what 140 shots? Every tick of Plasma energy has 2 or 3 shots.
