Could I do more, if I had TA, MD/Ruin and the like? Sure. But I'd be bored as fuck when soloing without my precious affliction talents.

Oh fucking hell. Try formulating a real argument instead of resorting to calling other people's specs newb-spec or easy-mode raid spec.

Course, I doubt you can since you're the type that, when they have no argument, resorts to tossing insults.

Affliction is such a noob spec. It's only good for solo PVE, and it's not even really great for that.

But people still take it because LOL you get a free shadowbolt at a randomly determined interval that's totally beyond your control LOL!!

Anyways, Imp + Salv = 50% reduction of aggro. 50% is VERY nice.

Yep. Sure is.

Now, let's take salvation out of the equation.

So, let's assume now that we're both MD/Ruin specced and have an imp out for raiding 24/7.

You have random purples and blues with greater overall +dam.
I have full nemesis with the 8-peice being 20% threat reduction to destruction spells.

We only throw shadowbolts.

Now. Not only do your shadowbolts hit harder, your base amount of threat reduction is automatically 20% less then mine.

Who's going to be able to throw more bolts in a fight?

Yep. Me.

Now, again. Don't get me wrong. There's nothing inherently wrong with MD/Ruin. It's an acceptible raiding build. I shouldn't have called it "newb spec". I apologize for that.

It is, however, similar to prot for warriors. A good tank in a 31/5/15 build can tank about as good as an okay tank in a 15/5/31. The talents in protection can make up for some deficiency in skill (Quicker taunts, faster snap aggro with shield slam, etc.).
I see MD as the same way for warlocks. Yes, given equal skill, an MD/ruin warlock will be able to pump out a fair amount more damage in a raid then an affliction lock, but the threat reduction can be seen as covering up your own deficiencies if you have any.

Casters get no progression at the high end, just because even though we CAN throw that 1000+ frostbolt or shadowbolt doesn't mean we have the aggro buffer on the tank to do so.

Also? Nemesis ePeen is good. D:

You forget amplify curse and better lifetaps for longevity. As well as instant cast corruptions.

You're vastly underestimating the amount of damage you can do before pulling aggro in almost any fight.

I can sac a succubus, rez it with cables, and have our shadow priest stacking 5/5 shadow weaving, and still cast back to back shadowbolts for 1600 non-crit until I run out of mana without even stopping to take a breath. Then I can lifetap, bandage, and drain again. I've done this on the drakes, nefarian, golemagg, you name it.

amp curse is weak, it's really only useful in conjunction with coex for PVP. There's no point to amp CoA because CoD still does more damage, and nobody uses CoW.

Imp lifetap is ok.

Instant corruption is great but not great enough to validate taking affliction.

Nah, that's not honest. I'm taking a turn at being a dick now. I can do that, but not for any long period of time, and not on an untauntable boss.

What IS honest is that I really do think that the 8 piece nemesis set bonus is not worth bothering with when you have to sacrifice so much +dmg for it. It's REALLY, REALLY not that easy to steal aggro, even on an untauntable boss.

PVP!!! For one on one, facing a shaman or a mage, a felhunter will decimate. For group PVP, picking out rogues, paranoia is the most powerful stealth detection in the game and it affects your whole group. It stops kamakazi IAE mages dead.

It's also moderately useful in PVE. If you have MD it's great for resistance-critical fights. It's helpful for fights where targets need to be purged regularly (Shazz, etc.)

In PvE, it's good for caster-centric dungeons since it gives you another spell interrupt and if you're lacking a priest, it can get rid of magic debuffs. It's not a general purpose pet, though.

In PvP + Demon Spec it makes you practically invincible to other casters.

I honestly don't see what's so great about MS.

My warrior is level 50 now, and I have a The Rockpounder which is better in terms of the damage range than a lot of stuff that level. My MS does about as much damage as a regular crit, but given that it costs 30 rage I don't get to use it all that often. Sometimes it's a decent execute replacement when I don't want to blow my entire wad.

Am I missing something?

Shrug. The premise always seemed silly to me, too. Although MS is a godsend against paladins (gah they are impossible to kill as fury spec) and people being healed...

I honestly prefer fury. To me, arms is a tree that only leads up to one final thing (mortalstrike) and nothing else. Whereas in the fury tree, I get all kinds of awsome abilities (deathwish and improved berserker rage to name my favorites ^-^) while still being able to get the required skills in arms. As in, tac mastery and improved overpower.

Pretty much it all boils down to playstyle. Not enjoying arms? Try fury! You may be surprised I like having lots of buttons to hit rather than just charge-bloodrage-MS-whirlwind.

PS: Honk!

Yeah, finding good onehanders is a bit of a pain Quite a few times I have had to switch weapon types while leveling up because there were no decent upgrades to the current type I was using.

Two of my warriors are DW fury, and one is 2h fury. The 2h fury works pretty well too ^-^ Try that out?
