Saw what may be a useful tip from a fellow gamer on the tech boards, so crossing my fingers.

Did not buy, mostly because of the nightmare that was D1 and D2 online and D3 being nothing but online.

Because it's F2P, so I don't feel pressured to play it all the time. I know that sounds silly, but I've always been that way with pay-to-play Mummorpuggers.

DL'ed the game yesterday but didn't play. Was gonna play today at work but I suspect it'd be too much for my work PC, so I spent all day replaying D2. I had forgotten how much fun skellymancer is

Fair enough. I understand the "oh, I haven't played X in a while.. guess I'll fire that up again" nature of the F2P's. I've got a STO acct that I haven't logged into in forever... not even sure what I was doing last time I fired it up...
I like the Torchlight-inspired type of graphics. I like the shared loot so nobody has to worry about being "the looter" and we just pool our resources when we hit town. I like that the health bubbles apply to everyone in a party, as well as shrines.
I like the little New Lore tidbits that pop up for you to listen to. I don't know about the rest of you, but whereas in some games I don't wear headphones and listen to the game all the time, it's essential for my Diablo enjoyment to always wear headphones. So I'm getting the full benefit of the voice segments, like the lore tidbits and the book snippets.
The artisan thing is...interesting. I think I'm still probably a bit undecided on whether I truly like it or not.
The items that you get can usually handle your upgrade needs, although I had a bit of a run where I couldn't find a decent pair of gloves and had a ton of gold. So I could probably do with a bit more variety on the vendors closer to how DII had it.
Deth and I both love the inclusion of more mini-dungeons. And I appreciate the giant yellow symbol marking quests in the world.
I kind of miss the map overlay. The mini-map is useful, but it feels just a bit less like Diablo without the overlay you could toggle on and off.
Overall, though, I'm getting a lot of things I loved about Diablo and Diablo II, some items from newer games that streamline things a bit, and just have one or two discordant notes so far that make it not quite feel like Diablo in places.
So I'm pretty happy. I definitely feel like I've gone back to an old friend.

I plowed through to act 4 yesterday before servers came down around 11pm or so eastern.
Enjoying every drop of lore and all the backdrops.
Anyone that was a fan of the story and lore of the Diablo universe will be cozy and snug in a great story.

I've not kept up with this much so have no idea.
Login servers that seem to be made of the same material as Launch-era World of Warcraft login servers.
IT Team that decides the best time to perform a game server reboot is during US Prime Time.

It plays exactly like diablo 2, but you log in and maintain connection exactly like world of warcraft.
The limitations of the system are really starting to show, because it's currently having all the problems that you have with an MMO launch. Players currently cannot play their single player title because a server is down a hundred miles away.
I do hate the online only thing. It was fucking stupid.

From what I understand, the "world" is on their server. This would mean they would have to formulate an emulator (ohai BNetD) for that to work.
I'd give it two weeks. A month at the outside. Assuming that data is accurate anyway.
Or you can pay sixty bucks, reward the developers for their work, get any new content they add, and not have to worry about whether Xxdarkseraph-sevendustfanxx patched the bug with the loader that bluescreens your system.
I chose that option

No you can't. That died before D3 shipped. Or did you not get the spam telling you to tell your friends to buy in before May 1st?

Sorry, I had to ask.
I'll just wait a few weeks.

Actually I haven't really had much trouble connecting to the game except for when the servers are down for maintenance.

I tried it, but I can't get past the jumping spiders. *I* want to jump when I see them on the screen.
Deth wanted to try a monk so we ended up playing up to the Skeleton King again tonight on new characters and I tried Witch doctor. Pretty cool class. I just have to use the poison dart instead of the spiders.
I love the snare ability.

Really, if Diablo III's Real Money Auction House wasn't A Thing, you wouldn't have to deal with lag playing single player, or losing process because battle.net decides to take a shit and drop you. And thus those playing multiplayer wouldn't have had to deal with that Error 37 nonsense at launch. Skaw fucked around with this message on 05-18-2012 at 07:30 AM.

Blindy. stumbled drunkenly to the keyboard and typed:
For fucks sake, the online requirement is not "DRM". The game you are playing is hosted on Blizzard's servers. That lets them prevent cheating and gives you access to a bunch of features. Do you enjoy having two characters, one for local and one for multiplayer? I don't. I like being able to sell the rare drops I find in single player on the auction house. I like being able to open my single player game up to the public when I run into an area I'm having trouble with, or to be able to invite my friend to play with me when he gets home from work and I see him come online.
Hey man know what was rad? All those features except the Auction House were in Diablo 2. Skaw fucked around with this message on 05-18-2012 at 07:33 AM.

I hit a brick wall on my witch doctor when I started nightmare. I could have spent a bunch of time farming up better gear, but I just went on the auction house and spent 7k gold, and now I'm fine.

And all that stuff was completely avoidable on the player level. Especially if all you wanted to do was play with your friends. Hell, even Battle.net and it's terrible lag was completely optional for Multiplayer. Now it's not, even if you want to play by yourself. We're not going to agree on this topic, so let's just drop it.
I find my Airbender...er Monk to be a blast to play and I really dig the multiplayer in this. Pop in and out at any time seemlessly, and if I do I don't have o listen to that danm templar spout off all the time.
Only thing I don't think I may like is when they patch in the pvp and start fucking up the classes for balance.
It feels like all the loot I get half my level or something. When I do get something that's my level, the ah has something that's tons better for very cheap.
