Who are you backing?

I'm pretty excited about Ron Paul, really. Besides the whole "lolbertarian" slings and arrows, I'm thrilled at his ideas of small government.

Ron Paul is an awesome candidate to be certain, and I would have no trouble at all voting for him. He opposed the war in Iraq, but for reasons that I can honestly believe are genuine and not the result of pure, vietnam-esque political vitriol. (Badnarik also opposed the war) That said, I don't think he's going to make it past primaries.

Fred Thompson is ideologically very similar to Ron Paul, only more focus on economics and less so on social issues. Personally, I'm a little skeptical of his sincerity. I could more easily see him winning a republican nomination than I could Ron Paul, however. A lot of people watch "Law & Order", and that's just the kind of society we live in today.

Rudy Giuliani is kinda iffy. While he's awesomely secular and to me seems like a genuinely good candidate, a lot of Giuliani's beliefs are uncertain, and he has balked at answering questions about abortion and gay rights on a couple occasions. Also, while he pays lip service to reganomics, some of the things he's done in the past run contrary to that. Still, I see Giuliani as the most likely candidate to win a republican nomination, and while I'd be happier if a candidate with more solidly defined beliefs won, I'd have no problem voting for Rudy.

One odd thing about 2008 is that, for once, there seems to be a wealth of fairly good republican candidates. Other people to keep an eye out for: Tom Tancredo, Mitt Romney, and even Newt Gingrich.

In terms of the democrats, it doesn't really matter to me who wins their primaries since it's a choice between three people with virtually identical ideologies, all marxist. For what it's worth though, I think the glow coming off Bill Clinton is bright enough in the far left for Hillary, the extremist of the bunch, to win out, which is probably a good thing because I do not think Hillary has even a remote chance of winning a national election.

I wouldn't call Giuliani a RINO. McCain, maybe. Giuliani does have a fairly sincere and reliable conservative history, he only diverges in the cases of abortion and gay marriage, and even then as I indicated he has yet to take an official stance either way.

Understandably, as I do not think a pro-life candidate has much of a chance in 2008. People are tired of religious fundamentalism.

My main problem with Giuliani is that I don't know if he's enough of an idealist to take the kind of significant action that we need in order to further improve our economic situation right now.

It's mostly a matter of our forces in Iraq. We don't want any withdrawls happening before we're actually finished there. It'd be disasterous to leave it in civil war--which is exactly what Obama wants to do, and what we'd have to do immediately if America leaves first. Hillary isn't much better on that, but she is much more obnoxious.

Read all the news sources you can. Each one is kilted off to one side, but you can form your own opinion on the matters.

Check out the canidate's web sites. Normally, their stances on issues are there in black and white.

Then, if you want to do the extra legwork to be sure, look up how they voted on certain issues in the past. That will let you know if they flipflop much.

Dont stick with any one media source. The best way to get informed is to do your own research, though hardly any bother to do so anymore.

Look at all sources and make a judgment.

The general overview of politics is that both sides are for social engineering. To say that either side is for small government would be a misdirection.

Most Republican platforms cover anti-abortion, anti-gay rights, pro-gun rights, pro-religion, tough on crime, isolationism.

Most Democrat platforms cover pro-abortion, pro-gay rights, pro-socialism, pro-world unity, anti-war, anti-"religious engineering."

We Libertarians are for as small a government as possible.

A quick look at how things work in the rest of the world will reveal why it's a rather good thing that we have a two-party system that doesn't really allow outsiders much of a chance to run the country. Our government is designed, in all its facets, to prevent drastic changes one way or the other as a result of elections. Slow change from within is really the only method that works.

That's a good thing.

Two is better than one. Especially since one does not actually control the other, as evidenced by the idiocy on both sides.

Funny how the forefathers warned adamantely against the party setup though.
