From there Update to 3.02 OE-A.
Then Update to 3.02 OE-B.
EDIT: MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT ON A TA-082 MOTHERBOARD BEFORE TRYING THIS SHIT Alaan fucked around with this message on 12-25-2006 at 10:01 PM.
Merry Christmas...everyone!
All you need is a PSP, the programs, and a 1GB memory stick; right? Rodent King fucked around with this message on 12-26-2006 at 01:47 AM.

Rodent King had this to say about Tron:
Makes me wonder why Sony didn't think to advertise this themselves if the software was capable of it. Or is it actually one of their programs?
The latest firmware supports PS1 emulation for games sold from the Sony Store via PS3. Someone cracked that firmware to run copies of those purchased games first. Then they further cracked it to convert PS1 isos into a format usable by the official emulator. This open door is far from what Sony wanted!
I mean the shit they put out gets cracked within days. Do they even think that it won't be, anymore?

Over the mountain, in between the ups and downs, I ran into Mr. Gainsborough who doth quote:
I honestly think Sony doesn't care about the PSP anymore.I mean the shit they put out gets cracked within days. Do they even think that it won't be, anymore?
It's possible that they only offer up token resistance so that they have plausible deniability in the event of an intellectual property lawsuit. IE, if the PSP really had no copy protection at all, Square/Enix could very well sue Sony for facilitating piracy of their game. It worked with Napster, after all.
The PSP's conveniently high level of crackability certainly does seem to be a big draw to the device. Maradon! fucked around with this message on 12-26-2006 at 02:37 AM.
Is there a special PSP I need to do this?
Is there any reason I shouldn't do this (fucking up OS and what not)
Can I still play all of sony's psp releases?
I don't know why I didnt ask about this stuff before :/

You'd need a PSP that isn't a TA-082 Mobo and isn't any higher than 2.71 (It'll change to 2.8 soon, they're working on a downgrader. If you can find a used PSP at 1.5 or 2.71 and lower that isnt a TA-082 mobo then you can flash this firmware to your psp (Dark_Alex's 3.02 OE-B)
With any flashing of a systems firmware it is possible you can brick the PSP (fuck up the firmware) so it's always a risk
Yes 3.02 OE-B supports all the games out on UMD now (as well as ripping them to the memory card and playing them from there if you wish)
Yes MGS works on the 3.02 OE-B firmware, 3.02 has a built in PS1 emulator in it, the only thing he cracked was the digital signature and figured out how to wrap one of sony's original PS1 games around an ISO image. (He found all it was was a digitally signed compressed ISO of the game.)
...and yes, Xenogears works too I ripped my copy of Castlevania: SotN, I bought it back when it went Greatest Hits but never played it due to time, now that this is out I'm playin it on the bus to work/school

Ok so i've been watching psp hacking 101's videos and I think I get all of what you are saying. What I need is a non TA-082 Mobo and firmware 2.71 or lower, right? (also if I do end up finding the right PSP would you mind walking me through this stuff nothing like ruining a $200 investment just because you aren't sure what your doing )
apparently homebrew has a version for the T-82 board now, but you still need 2.71. DrPaintThinner fucked around with this message on 12-26-2006 at 04:34 AM.

They haven't been able to crack TA-082 enough to put full custom firmware on. So when you are buying your used PSP, ask the desk monkies at EB or whatever to let you check it out. Link for checking for TA-082.
And of course you can still run your NES, SNES, GBA, etc emulators.

I think what im going to do is just buy one off amazon.com. Several vendors say they have v1.5 or 1.6 for sale for less then what gamestop wanted for it.

Ok so how do I get the ISOs onto my psp. Do I need a bigger memorystick? If I have a 4 disk game does that mean I need 2.8gigs of space? (I guess my real question is it worth it to get anythin more than a 1gig?)

Your best bet is to get a 4 gig, obviously, but those run kinda expensive.
You don't need all 4 discs on your thing at once to play the game, only the one you're on. A 2 gig is honestly your best bet though. Decent price, plenty of space for stuff. Only get the 4 gig if you really don't ever feel like switching out games.

Thx for this. I can now check used PSPs and use emulation as a selling device.

Not worth the headache you'll get when someone comes in with a scratched disc that they tried to jam into their PSP.
I wouldn't advise using that as a selling point since you'd probably get bricked PSPs back that people messed up trying to do this.

I'd make a comment about nobody could be that stupid, but then again, I live in redneck-villetouristburg.
I'd only reccomend it to what look to be hardcore gamers anyway if they're up in arms about it.

One of my buddies is an assistant manager at a game stop. A guy came in with a umd and was all like "dude, why doesn't this fit in my psp?"
Friend grabs the 'umd' from guy. Notes that the 'umd' is just the little disk, no plastic umd case to be found. "Because you broke it out of the plastic guy"
Guy: "Oh, you're supposed to leave those in there? Could I exchange this for a new copy?"
Friend : "...No"

how would it be 1.5 and a TA-082? From what I understood thats impossible since the TA-082 had some other firmware version and was not downgradeable

If it ends up being a TA-082, you can just upgrade to 2.71, downgrade with this and 3.02 OE-B can be installed on it...or so it seems.

I actually had a customer today ask me how you're supposed to get the discs out of the plastic holder.
That was one of the few times I enjoyed making a customer feel like a retard.
