IMO, it's the fault of iTunes at that point given that it won't honor the Directory Structure management system that LOTS of early MP3 ripper programs (and to a large degree WinAmp) made easy for people to deal with.
An easy 50% of my music is "improperly" tagged. But since I work on a Band / Album directory structure I know who did what and what album it's on. Easy to find via /bin/bash

And it's worth the effort. You'd grind out a level in WoW to get a slightly better spell, but you wouldn't spend 2 hours getting your songs tagged so you can organize it however you want in a database?

Again, if the system you currently have in place works, why replace it? When you get to the point in WoW where you're grinding that last level to get a new spell the version you have isn't cutting it anymore. There's a need, and a need will motivate greater than a want/"would like".

Define "works"?
You can find the song, yes. But can you set up a playlist of all your 3-5 star rated alternative songs after 1998 but before 2003? No.
Some of us like being able to do that kind of thing.
The rest of us just want to listen to music.
Seriously Blindy, I shouldn't need to go and download third party software to do something as simple as organize my music. That's silly.
(this allows me to play any movie that my PC has a codec for - even if the 360 itself doesn't support it, btw)

And other than a few minor items.... I have seen no suggestions for 'must have' accessories... I can't believe that the iPod is that perfect. How much of a pain in the ass is battery replacement in one of these? I remember the original model not having that great a battery life and while I'm getting a newer generation unit I know I'll eventually have to replace the battery pack in the sucker.
My Clie desparately needs a new battery pack.
get yourself a cover of some sort if the used one doesnt come with one. Especially if you want to watch video best to do it w/o all the screen scratches. As stated above, FM transmitters are useful, unless you have a newer car with an mp3 jack. The standard earbuds have pretty good sound quality but the problem is that they don't fit everyone's ears. If you saved as much money as you said on the iPod, maybe you could spend some $ on some "in the ear" headphones. You can get apples base model for around $50 and the high end ones for around $500 (yah right).
If you check out the apple store online there are a ton of different accessories you can browse through to get an idea of cool stuff.

This would be perfect for me.
Screen got all scuffed? You're fucked normal wear is not covered by the warranty.
Bump a table with the iPod in your pocket and now there's a tiny dent in the case? You're fucked it'll never work again and physical damage isn't covered by the warranty.

Oh no, I'm not as hardcore as Blindy. I should be wanting my music software to do things other than simply browsing to the music I want when I know where it is located. No need to be able to sort the library by location here! No sir! I'll get right to putting useless ratings on each and every one of my tracks now!Seriously Blindy, I shouldn't need to go and download third party software to do something as simple as organize my music. Yeah, just typing the name (or maybe just the first three or four characters) of the band, album, or song that you want would just be so much more work.
I obsessively ID3 tagged things when they were still releasing new versions of Winamp 2 and way before iTunes ever found its way on to my system.
I'm sorry, but 01 - rockin droogs - the rockin droogs anthem (live in 06 in ur mom arena with drum solo) pains me to see

It still is a lot more of a hassle than using file structures that I'm already used to since I don't particullar have folders set up for each artist/album.

Ok, first off, that's winamp, not windows explorer, which I've been told is in every way superior to iTunes.
So you can do that with the album name too? I want all the songs on Dark Side of the Moon, in the order they are on the album, now.
WinAmp Method:
-Go to windows explorer
-go to c:\
-go to music
-go to rock
-go to pink floyd
-go to dark side of the moon
(alternatively, hit windowskey-r and type "c:\music\rock\pink floyd\dark side of the moon"
-hit control a (or drag a box around all the songs)
-right click
-select play in winamp
-hope you had the file names containing the track number so that they were selected in the proper order, but since you're too lazy to spend an hour tagging your music, I'd doubt it.
iTunes Method:
-Go to iTunes
-click in search field
-type "dark"
-click on dark side of the moon in the album results
-hit play.
FYI- Exact same 5 steps required for selecting all the music by a specific band or a specific song.

WMP Method is nearly identical, cept you just hit first letter of the artists name with Artist Highlighted and Select from List. The click Album and it plays. Or enter D for "Dark Side" on Albums. Click album, and play.
Ogranizational features of WMP are far superior to iTunes imo (Cleaner and better design I mean). Monica uses iTunes (and I used to) she bitches about it constantly, but uses it for music purchases still.
WMP11 is spiff.
So I can't use the xfer features of WMP with an iPod if I got one, through the sync to external device feature?... I'd HAVE to use iTunes or the one one Nem listed? Faelynn LeAndris fucked around with this message on 11-16-2006 at 09:33 AM.

Blindy. had this to say about Matthew Broderick:
I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one, but at least with media player 11 you've got feature parity with iTunes. Saying that windows explorer does more or is better is just laughable.
Most of the features in WMP11 are similar or identical to those that were in 10 and 9.
Where did Windows Explorer come from? o_O
I don't think I've ever even really used Windows Explorer for anything, I always tend to use whatever the programs internal features for browsing are like PS's browser or just manually using My Computer.
Nevermind, I see it, they were talking about explorer and not WMP... Got confused.
Still didn't answer my question though... I'm looking at MP3 players for work, and I like the spiffy teeny tiny ipod thingy thats like the size of a Gamecube memory card I saw a while back. So I can't use WMP's sync features through an external device, only iTunes or Nem's? Faelynn LeAndris fucked around with this message on 11-16-2006 at 12:13 PM.
