The Good: Improvements and New Stuff
-New base class: The Warlock. I don't know what this class is about aside from the fact that they wear skimpy clothes and that they are apparently super-sorcerors (they don't memorize spells, I think, and they get unlimited use out of their spells. Oh, also, they can heal themselves and have a supernuke they can use once per round). Skimpy clothes.
-Improved class: The Ranger. Most of us know that the 3.5 Edition rules was basically made to make the Ranger viable and, when he's outdoors, the Ranger is practically unstoppable, with the speed of a barbarian, the ability to hide in plain sight, gains bonus attacks, combat styles, etc. Not so skimpy, though.
-Prestige Classes: A lot of cool stuff here, from the Master of Pales (Necromancer ubermen) to the Frenzied Beserker (crazy-ass Barbarian to the extreme), Assassin (yeah!), Arcane Trickster (what?).
-Subraces: Drow, Duergar, Planetouched, Svirfneblin, Sun Elves, Moon Elves, Gold Dwarves, Shield Dwarves, Lightfoot Halflings, Strongheart Halflings, Maradon Halflings, etc. Pretty fun! Skimpy? Not so much.
-Graphics: Oh god yes. FINALLY races look amazingly different than each other. Elves are slender, mysterious, alien-looking, not just humans with pointed ears. Dwarves are hardy and stocky, Half-Orcs are titanic. It looks really nice. Elves have nice abs, too, apparently.
Everything looks a billion times smoother and less ugly than before. That's the best way to summarize it.
-Interface: Much easier to use, thank you.
-Dialogue: Pretty hot.
-Four-man party as opposed to "henchman": Also cool.
All in all, this game feels more like a Baldur's Gate sequel and less like a Diablo clone.
The Bad: The Awkward and Needs Improvement
-Combat: It can be a little wonky in the opening levels as you stand around and wait for a Lizardman to hit you. Fortunately, once you gain levels and get more companions, it's less like that. And you blaze through the opening levels in a hurry, really.
-Camera controls: Also a little wonky, probably thanks to the steep requirements of the system.
-A few bugs: Dialogue cuts out on occasion, but it's not too bad.
I haven't seen anything truly "bad" yet, just wonky.
So far, the plot seems kind of cool. It starts out like a typical RPG (yay lets go to the fair o wait were being attacked o god my friends). Thus far, it's pretty fun. The cinematic discussions make it cooler and less of a chore, too.
I made a Wood Elf (+2 Str, +2 Dex, -2 Con, -2 Int) Barbarian (hellz yea) and I think I might go Frenzied Beserker so I can have, what, like SIX fucking rages per day. It's hot and so am I.
I'd play it, yo.

I'll probably buy it when it's out here. Games only ever come out on Fridays. It's our highest law, alongside enforced afternoon tea.

I enjoy it. It's off-beat, unique. I fear this may reawaken my altoholism, though. I already want to make a Ranger.
I like how all of the companions and stuff are done like KotoR2.
Oh, and the spell effects in this game? FUCK YES. Some of the best D&D spell effects EVER.
He's a dwarven fighter that loves to beat the shit out of things with his bare hands. Part of his quest line (I guess) is to take him to a monastery in Neverwinter, where he may learn to become a monk. Well, that's as far as my bro and I have gotten with him anyway.
I just spent five minutes trying to get my team to stop attacking a DOOR.
Also, whenever I try to take control of Neeshka, my Barbarian starts popping her rages like they're candy.

Tarquinn had this to say about Punky Brewster:
How's that balanced?
Ding ding ding ding ding ding ding!
I think you've got it!
Alright, here's the rundown of the Warlock class: 1d6 HD, Light Armor capability, can use a nuke per round (can also upgrade nuke to have special effects and area of effects), can use special spell-effects called "invocations" with unlimited use and no preparation, can eventually heal self once per day and boost resistances once per day.
So basically, no, it's not balanced.
quote:
So quoth Densetsu:
I don't know how the warlock is balanced for NWN, but the warlock presented in the Complete Arcane is not unbalanced.
You're a fat hog and I hate you.
I think I'ma be a 10 Barbarian/10 Frenzied Beserker.
Do you have any idea how wild that is?

Tarquinn painfully thought these words up:
How's that balanced?
They don't receive near the amount of spells that Sorcerers/Wizards do. Notably, Warlocks also don't receive any death spells.

They don't receive near the amount of spells that Sorcerers/Wizards do. Notably, Warlocks also don't receive any death spells.
And by "don't receive near the amount of spells that sorcerers/wizards do" we're talking a 1st level sorcerer knowing a total of 6 spells, a 1st level wizard knowing every 0-level and 1st level spell provided they're in his spellbook, and a 1st level warlock knowing his eldrich blast and ONE other invocation.
This is going by the Complete Arcane, though.
Find out I payed $50 for a blank DVD. I just have such wonderful luck.

I've been waiting for this game for months...had it on preorder for over half a year. I finally get to go pick up the game, come home, pop it in the drive...Find out I payed $50 for a blank DVD. I just have such wonderful luck.
Go exchange it for another copy.
Race: Dwarf
Name: (Kill) Kilinus

I end up just letting everybody die.

I know a GM that let someone play a Warlock, and take the Spellfire feat from another book.
You want to talk unbalanced?

At least party members don't end up permanently dead in this one.
But seriously, for Single Player, that's why there's a pause button. Multiplayer is far harder with full PvP on. No pauses, and wizards with AoEs that hurt everyone! Fun fun!

I end up pausing, giving everybody one order, unpausing, and controlling my main character while everybody else performs their one order then either does something fantastically stupid or dies.
Just like I did in BG2
I let Khelgar do what ever the hell he wants, and I have Neeshka equipped with a bow, so she stays nicely out of the way.
I know it'll get tougher with additional spell casters though, but since my main character is a Paladin, I won't have to control him much.
Neeshka and Khelgar can't really screw things up. Except that, occasionally, Neeshka breaks off combat to disarm a trap and Khelgar goes running over a trap to get to the enemies.
Eleena usually doesn't act too stupid if you limit her spellcasting.
Your character, however, is seven times dumber than your companions. Be sure to put any Barbarian on puppet mode because you can't stop them from using Rage whenever they want, even with Behavior modifications.
But other than that, she isn't too bad left alone either.
-If you're a melee class, Power Attack does a lot to bring down zombies, skeletons and animals (like wolves). They have more hit points than god, but low armor. Cleave, great cleave, and power attack will bring down tons of them in short order.
-Buy every hat you find. Seriously. The Swashbuckler's Hat adds a +2 to your diplomacy and the other helmets can add to your concentration and the others have more bonuses.
Not that Diplomacy helps me much with a low Charisma score and no ranks in it. Intimidate I can do fairly easily (though I wish they had kept it as IWD2 and make it STR-based instead of CHA), but bluffing and lying aren't my strong suits.
Ergo, the next character I create will either be a Bard or a Sorceror so I can start seducing people. It's a conflict between the two, though. Anyways, you can usually get a lot more gold and items through Diplomacy, so don't undervalue it!
What's everyone else playing? I restarted my Barbarian to be human and I'm pretty happy with it.

Alberd stumbled drunkenly to the keyboard and typed:
Can anyone tell me how to kill that god damned blade golem in the Githyanki hideout? I swear I did 500 points of damage to that thing and watched it's life bar drop to nothing. I've been attacking this thing for half an hour now but it just won't die.
Apparently this is a common bug. So if you have the same problem at this part, there's a bunch of workarounds here on the NWN forums.
I swear I didn't mean to make -three- posts. Tired and pressed the wrong button. Alberd fucked around with this message on 11-05-2006 at 12:12 AM.

I started with my regular choice of fighter, but I am thinking of giveing the Warlock class a shot, or shoot for arcan archer, and take diffrent party members.

Meh, cha makes more sense.
