Motivation is kind of difficult as I don't really have time for Molten Core, and I'm not cut out for PvP, as a player, and being a paladin doesn't help that.
I had trouble making myself start an alt too, I just couldn't get into a new character.
I'd also stalled out at level 45 during all the talk of nerf Rogues' X and nerf Rogues' Y.
It's not something people hear about.

The class forums are fucking depressing to read, given enough time reading them you WILL hate your own class somehow, no matter how much you liked them before.

I found reading Flameplay during EQ killed a lot of my desire to play the game, and WoW's forums are even worse.
I'd also like to point out that I don't actually play any MMOs right now. I'm burned out on the whole genre, and WoW doesn't change that.

Some new high-end instances, PvP Honor System, Battlegrounds in a couple weeks...beyond that, not really.

A lot of minor bits have been changed (Certain talents, how spells work, 5 second rule change), Strat/Scholo have been nerfed to a joke, even for a 5-man, and PvP has a point, even if it's still a zergfest in TM.
MC's fun.
I think Blizzard has a good game here, but I think all the bnet kiddies need to stfu and let them work. I'm embarrassed by the lack of respect shown by the players.
quote:That's right I played the shit out of it. I played it to hell and back in beta, then played it some more. But the fact remains there isn't plenty of high end content. There is only Molten Core. That's it. And it has been that way for 6 months now.
Maradon! had this to say about Knight Rider:
A lot of these reasons are incredibly unreasonableBlack, you quit because there's not enough high end content? Don't you have multiple level 60's? Don't you think that maybe there's plenty of high end content, you've just seen it all because you played the shit out of the game?
This would be fine, having a sizable zone like MC being the only place to go for end game encounters... Except for the fact anyone with a lot of spare time could level a character to 60 in two weeks and waltz right in there. Grinding Molten Core for months on end is not fun. It's stale, repetitive gameplay which does not make for a good game.
But, but... Blackwing Lair is coming in "a few weeks"! That's right. So now you can look forward to grinding BWL and MC for a few more months, since Blizzard, in their infinite wisdom, is going to produce a "raid-lite" 20 man instance next. Nevermind the fact that even casual gamers are at/approching level 60, and looking torwards raiding to keep themselves busy in game.
But I get the feeling that explaining all this is for naught, as I know how you get when you form your opinions. Hell, you started out by saying my reasons for not playing were unreasonable. Though, of course, you haven't experienced the game like I have. But yet you know they're completely unreasonable.

What has been changed regarding Strat/Scholo? I was looking forward to those places. I love going to places that I've been to in WC3/TFT
It's still active because my dad plays and I'll probably start again if a friend or two of mine decides to pick it up.

In scholo, there were curses that did 1100 damage after 60 seconds.. Got halved. Ghouls, after dying did 700hp/sec damage to you with their green ooze.. halved. As for stratholme, the baroness encounter (Arguably the one most frustrating) was nerfed four times before they figured it was okay for newbs. She could either be obliterated by a 5-man, or chew up and spit OUT a 15 man raid with her mind control (She dissapears, charmed person does 100% damage, when they got low on health, she unpossessed, usually the person died. Now she posesses, but unposesses at 50% health and heals them to full).
The encounters are still essentially the same, just nerfed in small ways to make them easier.

When is the next expansion slated to come out? I ask because I know that EQII's first is coming in September. There has been one content-adding expansion pack and another planned I think before the new expansion although I'd have to look.
I think that's keeping in line with current MMOG trends. Does Blizzard have a similar schedule?
Note, I'm not trying to troll the thread. I offer that as a basis of comparison of what the same Generation of MMOG as WoW has in the works

Sony has a schedule for their stuff that people get to know about? Nice...

Sorry... it's simply not that great of a game in the first place. They really needed another year to put all the stuff that was originally promised in the game so they aren't going to be permenately playing "Catch Up" and fucking the game up along the way.
Or any other MMO, really. I guess MMOs just aren't for me anymore.
My mage has reached 60, and I'm finding myself at the same crossroads as many of you - not much to do high-end but collect items from MC, and take guildies through Scholo/Strath. I still enjoy it, but each time I go through these places, I get a little more bored with them...
PvP is nice, being a mage, but I really dislike the TM zergs. Not much point to them. I'm going to give the battlegrounds a try and make a choice about staying, or putting WoW on hold for a bit to play SWG or CoH while I wait for new WoW content to come out. I doubt I'll leave for good, though

The battleground are okay. Maybe they'll be fun once I play in them with people I know, but on test, it just didn't feel like there was enough there to warrant a patch taking so long to come out.

Flea had this to say about Reading Rainbow:
I think one reason I'm still enjoying the game is that I took my alt out of my high end raiding guild my hunter is in and had him join up with a lower level guild. This made it 100 times easier in finding instance runs at places like ulda/ST/Maura. Also I have a buddy of mine in real life that plays on the same server, and if he wasn't there, I'm sure I would have cancled back in february.
Lucky, the only RL friends that I have that play MMOs play DAoC. Albion on the Kay server (which, now that Mythic has clustered servers, you can no longer play any race on any server, but you must now stick with one realm on 3 different servers, Kay, Isuelt, and Pelinor are all part of the same cluster, and I'm not leaving Midgard on Isuelt.)
I'd so pick up Planetside again if I could find the cd's. Vanu Pwn u!
I guess the honeymoon's over. WoW wasn't the second coming everyone thought it was... exactly as I predicted.

To be fair, EQ only lasted as long because it was the only real one of it's kind at the time to play. AO had massive problems to start that jinxed it, and AC, though innovative, sucked.
On top of that, there was much spooging over WoW on these boards in the years (!!) leading up to release, along with CoH, Guild Wars, EQ2 and the like taking their toll.
Mention putting up the ECET server again; after a month of the forum drooling over it, they'll play it for 2 weeks, rape your bandwith in the ass, complain about this or that ability for another 2 weeks, and then stop playing.
Edit: btw, 37%. I didn't vote. Delphi Aegis fucked around with this message on 06-07-2005 at 02:27 AM.

Actually your numbers are off (you can't include people who have never played the game in retention rate)
The people still active and still playing is 47 percent, and the important number, paying accounts, is 67% of those who bought it.

I stopped playing on the ECET server because of Weigen. I never quit inbetween the first two fads, and the only reason it's uninstalled now is because I have trouble finding a decent server.

Actually, I think it was a coming in a different way. It pulled TONS of people off of EQ, and after playing WoW, I just don't have the patience to play it again.
I doubt I'm the only one who feels this way.
While WoW isn't the game thats going to replace EQ, it did knock EQ off of the #1 spot.
Willias fucked around with this message on 06-07-2005 at 02:40 AM.
To be honest though, I feel that WoW could be doing a lot better if Blizzard made some quests that made you feel like you were part of Warcraft's story, and actually put out content at a decent rate. For example, there is a little fact stated by a Horde npc in Azshara, that the tauren (she named a leader, and I can't remember her name, Elder Crone or something like that) are trying to find a way to turn the undead back into humans (curing the Scourge's taint and restoring life). There is no mention of this anywhere else in the game, and it actually gives a good reason as to why the Tauren don't mind being with the undead. WHY IS THERE NO MENTION OF THIS ELSE WHERE AND WHY ARE THERE NO QUESTS THAT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT? ARGH!

Willias came out of the closet to say:

It broke the EQ addiction for many people, yeah. For that reason alone I've crowned WoW the official "EQ Killer", but not because it enraptured people better than EQ did (can you believe it appears that most people were anticipating WoW longer than they actually ended up playing it?), just that it distracted them from EQ long enough to stop them from going back to it.
Do keep in mind, everyone pointing out that WoW has a lot of competition from the likes of Guild Wars and such, that EQ outlasted AO, DAoC, SWG, SB, Horizons (*snort*), E&B, TSO, CoH, and a few others I'm probably forgetting. Yeah I know some of those weren't direct competition with EQ, but several of them were.
WoW's still healthy (for the time being), don't get me wrong I'm not eulogizing it, but it's quite clear by the poll results from this group of people that it's failed to live up to the lofty standards the fanbois were predicting.
