Sounds like laziness to me.

Sounds like someone saying. "Hey, I wanna work as little as possible so I can have time to do whatever the hell I want because I live in a country where the government will take care of me and my family so I can be lazy, and still live a decent life."

What are you doing posting here? Get back to work you lazy ass.

The French public shot down the EU constitution just to spite their leaders who they're dissatisfied with, and other countries are jumping on the bandwagon.

I think they're stupid fucks, basically. A federal Europe is a good thing. Squabbling countries getting nothing done are not.

Discuss the stupid French in here.

A federal Europe is probably a good thing in the long run, but the EU in turning into a mini-UN--a self-licking bureaucratic ice cream cone. They need to scrap the EU and come up with a real constitution.

Can you clarify what you mean by this? The metaphor confuses me.

Edit: Grammar whoring.

If I understand correctly, it's something of a circle-jerk.

There's a King on a throne with his eyes torn out.
There's a Blind Man looking for a shadow of doubt.
There's a Rich Man sleeping on a golden bed.
There's a Skeleton choking on a crust of bread.

You've never heard of a self-licking ice cream cone?

It's something that exists solely for its own benefit.

Edit: us mean ol' Air Force guys sometimes refer to Navy carrier battle groups as self-licking ice cream cones, because in a high-threat environment, all of its resources are devoted to self-protection. . .which makes it pointless to have. In their defense, there is no longer a blue-water navy on the planet capable of inflicting such an environment on them.

They're just trying to make Voltron, but America already has the Megazord so they'll just sit there and play solitare.

I thought this was clever and witty at least!

I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl, we ate lobster, drank piƱa coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over, and over?

No. Just like the south still has it's culture and the north still has it's culture. And disolving athoritative differences makes regulations infinately more easier to understand and comply with. Just try working for a company that sells material to Europe. It's a procedural nightmare. Lucky me gets to code for it too.

Combined Europe has a buying power in the same range of that of America. But it isn't much of a super power when whatever Germany buys doesn't more than marginally effect the value of goods in Spain. Regulational differences makes it hard to handle Europe as one big market.

I've touched on the major one. 20 different governments making all their own rules will never produce the regulational continential unification provided by a large government.

Who cares about Military besides America anymore, anyway?

1. The North and South have cultural difference, and really haven't merged cultures, so... thanks for furthering my point about cultural unification being nonbeneficial.

2. Thanks for clearing up how the EU is technically a economic superpower when they do align properly, and how it would instead become a constant post unification

3. A large amount of people care about the military, Iraq obviously cared, they just didn't have the resources to devote that we do, Israel also cares, considering they rival us in the technology and training of their soldiers, while we can afford more toys. In the future please don't make false generalizations to attack America (n administration, foreign policy, whatever), especially in a discussion entirely about the federalization of Europe, it only paints you as another single minded spewer of slogans. I feel the boards have enough of these as is.

Kinda funny though. I never looked at it that way, but come to think of it, the smallboys are there to protect the carrier, who in turn has fighters aboard.... to protect the carrier.

I think his point was political unification does not necessarily equal cultural unification.

Did a Frenchman run over your dog, or something?

Short answer is that, against some pretty tough competition, they have emerged as the biggest bunch of arrogant, self-important, whiny back-stabbers on the planet.

And that's not just good ole fashioned French-bashing talking there. Having spent about 5 years in Europe while in the military, I've got 5 years more experience than I need or want dealing with those colossal pricks on both a personal and professional basis.

If anyone's really that interested in the reasons why, I'd be happy to elaborate.
