I do not know what level your reading comprehension skills are, but thePperson to whom the post was directedtowas able to answer the question, so I guess either his are better than yours, or you are simply looking for something to bitch about. Meanwhile the thread has moved on and it was more or less decided by the partieswho wereinvolved with the conversation that a gun was not for me and that I was going to stick with my panic button.I grieve that your sensibilities were rattled; please accept my condolences.
Don't tease the grammar whores when you're wrong. The fact that someone had the talent and the time to spare to figure out what you were trying to say doesn't mean you said it correctly. Your question was not a question, unless it was rhetorical, because the only one who could possibly answer what you can afford is you. What you meant to say was, "8k for a stamp? I can't afford that!" Note also that contractions usually have apostrophes to indicate missing letters.

So I learned several things and the question was answered. Why someone has to come along days latter and make a issue of it In my mind can only be for negative reasons, it's certainly not to educate or an attempt to reform the poster.

Bloodsage had this to say about Punky Brewster:
A .50 is a stupid home defense weapon. You'll only get one shot before the bad guy is standing toe-to-toe handing you your gizzard. And most first shots miss. Not to mention the fact that you're likely to injure somebody in the next room or in the next apartment or walking by on the sidewalk, since your wild first shot is likely to go through several walls.
I agree. A .50 is a fun gun at a shooting range, but its no HD weapon. The only thing I disagree with is that "You'll only get one shot" comment. The gun fires as fast as you can pull the trigger. If you have weak little hands you will need to pull the hammer back or squeeze pretty hard on the trigger.
The colt .45 is a nice gun both for its stopping power and its accuracy. And for those of you who can't handle a .45 try a 9mm Glock or Beretta 92 or a Beretta 96 which uses a .40 cal.

You're not much into guns, are you? Of course it'll shoot as fast as you pull the trigger, but shots #2 and above will be in the fucking ceiling if you do that.
There's a reason the .45 is about as big a sidearm as one can use effectively in combat. Anything bigger, and one's ability to put mulitple shots on target quickly is seriously degraded due to recoil. Even with a .45, one must practice consistently to correct for recoil quickly and well.

Yeah. If I were to own a weapon for home defense, that's what I'd go for as well. No shame in using a dinky gun when you're worried about recoil hitting your family.

That's why I also prefer Glazer ammo--no ricochets and no shooting through walls or bad guys. Just 100% kinetic energy tranferred to the target.

John Browning's Colt 1911.
Made out of American Flags, loaded with the blood of patriots, chambered in .45 Kick Your Ass.
It's not something people hear about.
All these things and many more have an impact on controllability. I carry a Kimber Pro Cary Officers model. My friend has a Cold Defender. His gun is heavier but has an inch shorter barrel. Both are Chambered in .45 ACP. In a given day I can put 300 rounds through my gun without a problem. 20 through his and I am ready to call it a day.
I personally don't like the 9mm round. Does this mean it is a bad cartridge? Of course not. For Sage it is the perfect round for home defense. I just prefer something a bit bigger. Therefore I have no handguns chambered under .40S&W. I also have no Personal defense weapons chambered above .45 ACP. Yes I have a .44 Mag but it is not an ideal weapon for protection.
Your common handgun calibers are as follows
.22
.25
.32
-----
.38
.9mm
.357 Mag
.357 Auto
.40
10mm
.45 ACP
.45 GAP
.45 Colt
-----
.44 Special
.44 Mag
.454 Cassual
.50 AE
Now the calibers between the "-----" markers are the ones that are suitable for Self defense. THe smaller side of that gives you a bullet that is more likely to anger an opponent in the short term. I remember a story a few years back where a woman shot a man 7 times with a .25 caliber handgun all Center mass. Before he collapsed he managed to beat her so badly that she required 6 months in the hospital and a lot of plastic surgery.
On the higher end of things you have rounds that will stop a man fast but are far to impactical due to recoil, gun size, and other variable. There is a current gun at Kieslers made of scandium. I believe it is chambered it Rugers new .500 pistol round. A full load of 5 rounds actually weigh 50% more than the gun itself. There is no way you could convince me to fire this weapon. I would probably break something. *shivers*
Stick with your common calibers. You are much better off.

We were all impressed when Azizza wrote:

Something to add would be to practice with your gun. Make sure you're well familiarized with its capabilities.
A 9mm using Glazer rounds has stopping power that exceeds the .45 round. High muzzle velocity plus a fragmenting bullet equals lots of kinetic energy. So you get the controllability of the nine, with the stopability of the larger calibers.
Plus, the ammo is a lot cheaper.

I went to that web site to look at the fire arm you mentioned and could not find it. I did find the pro carry II in stainless it looks nice. Is it essentially the same?
That is the same gun. They don't call it the Officers model but that is what it is. The Government model is slightly larger, the defender is a bit smaller, etc.
Sage: How many Glasers have you shot through your HP? Just curious mostly, some pistols don't feed them all that reliably. I'm personally not comfortable with a round I haven't shot a few hundred of through a given firearm, and it'd be prohibitably expensive for me to get to that level with Glasers.
Azziza: I somewhat disagree about the shotgun/pistol point you made. Handguns are fine for those who shoot a lot, but for someone who doesn't I'd suggest they were better off with the shotgun. An 18" barreled shotgun isn't all that unwieldy in close quarters, and with #4 buckshot and a cylinder bore it'll pattern around 12" at 10 feet. Assuming it's pointed at the bad guy when it goes off, even a non gun nut has a pretty fair chance of putting them down with the first shot.
I personally keep both a 12 gauge pump and a .357 at the ready for home defense. I'd go for the revolver were the intruder in the room when I noticed them, but I'd take the shotgun to investigate a suspicious noise elseware in the house.
I want a mace. A REAL, forged mace. But light enough for me to handle without too much strain and small enough to use in close quarters. Its scarier than a baseball bat and I wouldnt have to worry about hitting anyone but who I intended,

It is my goal to earn my pistol and rifle expert marksmanship. However, I would still not trust myself to be able to handle an intruder with a firearm. Yeah, because a gun is definitely a much more difficult weapon to use, and far more likely to be taken away from you than a mace, which requires by nature direct proximity.
