So there's a remake coming out with Johnny Depp as Wonka. He just doesn't look like Wonka because I've grown up with the other movie, however it looks pretty cool.

Anyone have any predictions or discussions?

I thought it was supposed to be a sequel, not a remake. Oh well.

See I assumed it was a remake because it was entitled "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". I could be completely wrong.

Given that a lot of the scenes in the commercials have been the same as those from the original movie, I'm pretty sure it's a remake.

Actually I believe it is neither a remake or sequel, rather a different interpretation of the book.

Remake, supposed to be following closer to the book than the original did

I really want it to be good, I really do. Depp has a hard act to follow though

It's actually closer to the original story than the first movie was. I don't know if I would call it a remake, rather more like a new interpretation of the same book.

I loved the original film, but I am excited to see this one. I just have to keep in mind they aren't really related to each other. Well they are cousins, but like twice removed.

Yeah but that drastic of a change (if it's so) is even further from the book than the Gene Wilder version (which really wasn't that inaccurate)

Looks interesting, though it looks less accurate to the book than the old one. I don't remember squirrels being in the book at all, and I hope the scene they were in wasn't the golden goose part. :/ It looked like it might've been.

Still seems like it'll be pretty good, though.

Actually, there were squirrels in the book, dug it out to check. And the girl gets rolled into the shelled nuts chute because she pisses off the squirrels.

It looks pretty darn accurate in my opinion, with some modern twists of course, like the Japanese school kids rushing to buy the chocolate, as I don't recall that Wonka's golden tickets were sent world wide in the book, just to Britain in fact. It's also kinda weird that Depp seems to be portraying Wonka as more the eccentric factory owner than the kid-friendly Gene Wilder.

I heard that one of the running gags throughout the movie is that Wonka is a klutz. Always tripping over things all clumsy-like. Anyways, this movie looks to be quite entertaining.

I like Beauchan...and maybe I'm a comic elitist, but she hadn't even seen the Star Wars movies until just recently. Having her declare the new Wonka movie is akin to the new Batman movie makes my butt twitch.

The Wonka movie is, if anything, a more correct telling of the original story. Batman Begins is a complete reboot of the franchise. It's no more correct or incorrect than the version of the story told in the Michael Keaton "Batman". It has no ties to the original series of movies (thank goodness).

I suppose that they both are retellings of a story that's been told before...and both are in theory closer to the way things should be, but it still makes my ass twitch to hear Batman compared to Willy Wonka.
