PvP in it's current state is not how the game is going to handle PvP. It was just put in to A) have a second server, and B) quiet all the people clammering for PvP on the forums on a minutely basis.

Still, it's not like it's a bad system...

Nothing. At level 24 I've been ganked once.

I took Falaanla Marr out, it was a Friday night. I wore cologne to get the feeling right.
There are like two small areas for each side that don't allow ganking. by level 10, you're in gankable areas.

So you get an extra 15ish hours on top of the 10 or so from level 1 to 10.
Eh. I still don't like it. DAOC was my favorite PVP system Falaanla Marr fucked around with this message on 08-26-2004 at 08:29 PM.

I don't like PVP as it currently is. Not saying I won't like it later. I k now this isn't how it'll be on release.
I don't have access to all your inside sources, I don't know everything you do

Can I sign up for the stress test if I am not a FilePlanet subscriber?
Yes, you can still sign up for the stress test. However, FilePlanet subscribers receive priority for stress test spots.

I'm just sad that I'm actually considering paying $7 a month's subscription now. Partly for this, partly for the Tribes:Vengance beta. *mumbles*
Not that it's worth the money, since you don't get to keep your character.

The download process is fucked unless you use fileplanet's stupid download manager.
It'll be make-or-break if I decide to buy it or not. Everything hinges on how much I enjoy playing undead, as I don't exactly have a lot of spare cash that isn't tied up to throw around at the moment.

People were paying 300+ dollars for beta slots...do you think they care if they can only play for a week?
Amazing what people will pay for nowadays.

I'm still debating if I even want to bother with it now. I rarely even try the new MMOG's anymore, "betas" have become such a big deal, that you have thousands of people playing these games for 6 months to over a year when the general public can even touch it.
So in games like these, once they go live you already have good sized chunk of the population at the pro-level, they know where to go, what to do, and how to do it best.
No one starts out on the same level playing field with MMOGs anymore, which kinda bugs me.

Every MMO has been like that.
EQ had about 9 months for a beta test. Just wasn't as well known. Heck, even UO had one, and I'm sure that The Realm and Meridian 59 had em too.
Much of the issue too is that people have preconceptions of how MMOs work, and those are generally correct nowadays. So people just have more and more of an advantage.

Well I did it a third time and it is still corrupted. Guess I'll deleate the file reboot and try again.

UO's beta1 barely had a thousand active participants, UO beta 1 and beta 2 combined lasted less than 3 months (June to September 1997). No characters copied over from the beta, no 1 year testing period with 10,000+ people (hello shadowbane).
Yes EQ's was longer, but as you said it was kept small and quiet.
I'm saying now the trend is for companies to be focusing so heavily on the beta, that if you expect to compete you have to be playing it pre-release, otherwise (especially in a pvp game) you will have no chance.
It's not gonna make or break the game of course, but it's just a trend I dislike.

Think of it this way: 7 bucks is pretty much what you pay for a rented game from Blockbuster, and you get to keep the game for 7 days.
However, apparently I won't get in because the amount of money that my parents have is tighter than my dad's shirts. Looks like I'm going to be getting a job as soon as my parents let me, or I can sneak around em.

If you're using winrar try using winzip, supposidly from browsing the battle.net forums (Always good for a little amusement) no one can get the file to open using winrar.

Meridian 59's alpha and beta were both open. I'm pretty sure the Realm was similar. I think M59's alpha and beta combined lasted less than a year. Been awhile.

Yes. There will be separate Mac and PC installers for the stress test included in the download client.
