You Know In general, Alot of sterotypes are not pulled out thin air. However it is hard to see them if you can't veiw them from the outside. Take the concept that New Yorkers and northners in general are rude. Best line I have ever heard explaining this is from Greg Proofs, New Yorkers are not rude, they are are busy. Example of this is when my sister-in-law was visting us, she is from Alabama, and we were in a local pizza shop on a friday night. She got all pissy because the guy behind the counter wouldn't stop and address her. Now I saw nothing wrong with this because It's a busy night and they don't have time to pussy foot around, and the normal way about it is to go up and tell the guy your order.

By the way, Arizona is diametrically opposed to California. We hate them.
Most people just don't understand about California. Nevada and Arizona serve as a buffer zone for the stupidity that slithers from that foul state.

Dr Cysa said this about your mom:...there aren't quiet as many ethnic folks, and then what little word of how blacks or hispanics reaches the south its rarely good. I go down to the south and I mention going into the city they all act like it was a mirical I wasn't mugged by some black guy.
Actually, where I live black people are pretty much the majority. But you're right, the attitude here from the white people is that black people have the tendency to be mean, disrespectful, and whatnot. My parents for instance suggest that black people aren't educated and intelligent and hate white people. Of course, they'd never say it outright but it is implied. And although there are a few exceptions, the two races almost never mingle.
Like, at school during lunch, one side of the cafeteria is black and the other white. Seriously.
So I'm guessing there isn't any of that in the North?

And my point was that its not that there are no redeeming qualities to northerners. I merely pointed out, in my experience, a lot of the stereotypes about the north are, in fact, correct. Hence, it's all arbitrary.

White people are in the majority here, but I have noticed that at my school at least, black people tend to gravitate towards each other. They also tended to move in lines, with like five or six black people all walking in a line behind each other. I think people called em 'Soul Trains'

Depends were you are. Racism is still here, But not the same, for the most part people get along. Also you have some other issues you probaly don't see to often.
Like in Lakewood NJ the Jewish population there is trully unliked by everyone. They have their community which says a big fuck you to everyone else in the area. If you ever want to see were bad stereotypes come from, you should work at my job for a day and see how the Lakewood Jews act and treat people. Most of the time they talk down to my female co-workers, and the non-white employees they won't even talk to.
Or Asbury Park were you have problems between the Blacks and the Haitians, and the gays are getting ticked off at both of them because they want to rebuild the area. And so forth.
We're also probably the most diverse as far as the whole 'melting pot' thing goes, than any other single state. We're not all just a bunch of southern rednecks who pine for old pre-civil war times. We had our own war for independence.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I think California takes the blue ribbion on that idea. NJ might even be higher than Texas, we have a pretty danm big spectrum of people here, have two Major cities near by, plus the State goes from dense urban and suburban areas to belive it or not farmland and really hicky areas. Not to mention those freaky Pineys. Peter fucked around with this message on 08-10-2004 at 01:14 AM.

I'm not saying I know for sure, hence the use of the word, 'probably,' but what exactly did you list here that is unique to NJ when compared to Texas? I'd say something about the 'Pineys,' but I don't know what that slang means.

Har har. (Even if I'm summering in KS, I'm still a Californian, dammit)

South and central Jersey we have the Pine Barrens, in them we have the Pineys, some of them make the average hick look cultured. As to the melting pot thingy, NJ has the suburbs of NYC and Philly, besides our own large cities, with those we have a constant and substantial import of diffrent races/cultures constantly mixing.

Everywhere except for Sussex county, yeah. That's still a good ol' fashioned hatfucking whitebread racist shitstain stronghold. Good thing less than 2% of the state's population lives there. I'm so glad I live down by school, now. Karnaj fucked around with this message on 08-10-2004 at 01:46 AM.

...And? I'm still not seeing what you have that we don't. Two major cities? We've got 5. Constant and substantial import of different races/cultures constantly mixing? Yep, got that. Hicks? Got them, too. All different kinds.
