My opinion of Bush is that calling for this Constitutional admendment is a direct contradiction and slap in the face of the constitution. The Constitution stands for the free rights. I don't like to talk about killing people, but I admit the I believe in hard punishment in crimes like that.

From the book of Zair, chapter 3, verse 16:
That is what I'm interested in seeing. When people see that all their terrible conspiracies about the terrors of allowing gays to marry doesn't occur in Massachusettes (sp) (where gays can now marry), what will they say then?
That it's not proof!
The way I see it, is this.
I'm not a lesbian. I doubt I ever will be. But my mother is happily living in England with her lesbian lover right now.
Do I care? No. Am I going to shout from the rooftops that being gay is wrong because its not something I practice? Hell no. But if being with a woman makes my mom happy, I'm ok with that.
Know why?
Its not my life. I dont have to live it. I like men. Not women. Big deal.
After banning gay marriage, he might as well go ahead and do away with multiracial marriages. Oh, and if you arent within 2 years of each other in age, ban that as well. And the man has to be older than the woman. You can only have 2 children, because everyone knows a nuclear family is better than any other type of family. And you can only have a son and daughter. Any other children will be put to death because of the population risk.
Goddamn my boss is a butt nugget from hell.
With the exception of a few Major cities that bush would probably not get in the election anyway, a large portion of the country do not want Gay Marriages to be legal. Even those of us who have no problem with people being gay. The reasons vary from Moral to social and economic based. But the underlying reason doesn't really matter. That is the way they feel.
Bush knows that there will never be a constitutional amendment banning Gay Marriages. But by coning out so strongly against him he is courting the hard liners more. Supporting gay marriages just isn't that big of a Vote getter for a Republican. The gay community (god how I hate that term) generally leans towards the left, and the ones who don't care about more important issues. The people who are against it tend to be pretty hard line to the right, and the rest of the people just don't give a damn.
And despite Drysarts grandstanding and dramatics, I don't think it will lead to the overall destruction of our economy. However I do feel that it will lead to a much faster decline of the Social Security system. Which is already in enough trouble as it is.
I dont' feel two gay people should be able to get the rights of a married couple anymore than two roommates in college should, or some guy living with his daughter. And 6:1 odds says that you have both things happen and taken to court if Gay Marriages or Civil unions are allowed.
Oh and for all those who have nothing better to do that scream "Bush sucks he hates the gays"

I don't know, it's not raining fire and brimstone here in Canada.
It's an utter non-issue over here. We have gay "partnerships" and soon we will have gay marriage. It's not going to affect the social security in any noticeable way. That's just an excuse for people who are opposing it on moral or religious grounds, really.
So is anyone going to make any points or is this going to be a general-issue "Bash Azizza" type thread? I have to ask because as ridiculous as some of the things Azizza says are, I am getting a bit tired of every time someone makes a crack about Bush, Azizza's name is inevitably invoked.
I don't agree with Azizza's politics, but at least I have the decorum to not launch ad hominem attacks at the guy in every thread, whether or not he's actually posted in said thread yet. In the last couple of days I've seen this happen three or four times, and it really makes people look stupid. And abusive.
I don't care if you're going to bash Bush. Presidents always catch flak. H.W. Bush got stuck with the label of "The Wimp" in his run for the Presidency. Superficially the guy does look like a monkey. I can admit I see where the reference comes from.
And I don't care if you disagree with the political arguments made. But for crying out loud, we don't proactively take shots at OTHER Conservative people on the boards.
I'm glad I'm a registered independent voter rather than a Democrat, because you guys would make me feel like an asshole by association.

And yet you think it's perfectly OK for a man and woman who are roomates or just casual acquaintances do this? Moreover, how is this not discrimination again?

Bush endorsed a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage earlier this year in an appeal to social conservatives who are among the most ardent supporters of his re-election bid.
Wouldn't he want to make some sort of appeal to the fence-straddlers and such, rather than possibly pushing away some of them in favor of those who already support him anyway?
Azizza's probably right in saying this will win over more people than it will lose, though, which is kind of saddening. I honestly don't know about social security...but the argument that gay marriage is a gateway to all kinds of crazy people clamoring for marriage is BS, really. And if those kinds of people do that kind of thing, not only would their arguments remain just as illegitamate but they would be doing it already anyway. You can't make a comparison between two roommates in college and a gay couple. You really can't.

Now, I use strong in the sense of "He ardently does what he believes is right".
Now, if it is right or not, it depends on the viewer. (from a moral sense.)
Of course, this will eventually pass (knowing how America works, any sort of 'moral' sense gets rolled over anyway), and Bush will be labelled as a president of Bigotry and discrimnation, and most of the liberals will be lolling it up.
So, eh. Although I'm anti-gay marraige (for religious and moral reasons), I just don't really care to fight, because it all boils down to "It doesn't affect us!" versus "It will affect us in the grand scheme of things!", which basically means that the grand scheme people will lose, since people have a natural tendency in America to prefer apathy over fighting (over issues that don't directly affect them).
I didn't really contribute anything in terms of arguing. Lenlalron Flameblaster fucked around with this message on 05-18-2004 at 01:36 PM.

Well, then a "normal" married couple of man and woman shouldn't be able to get any tax benefits either. I mean, all you have to do is find a woman to share a house with, get hitched up, and BLAM you get tax benefits! You don't have to sleep together, like each other, or even see each other during the day.
IMO, marriage should be about being in love and in a serious relationship with the person that you do love, enough so that you want to spend your life (or at least a really, really long time) with that person. I don't see how gender has anything to do with how much you love someone.
IMO, this years election is going to suck. I dislike Kerry AND Bush.

Then again I do not see why a gay couple should not have the same civic rights as a heterosexual couple. In the eyes of beaurocracy there quite often is no connection between a gay couple, this leads to all kinds of problems when one or the other falls ill has an accident and the likes. No less a reason is that these people are being denied by society the way to officially state their deep and abiding love for each other. For most couples marriage is more than a beaurocratic footnote. It is a statement that they share a deep and abiding bond and I do not see why that should be denied to them either. Uh, right. Okay, valid point..? It didn't answer my question any. Genetic defects have been evident and seen by children born of incestual relationships, let alone the mental issues that occur as a result. I'm not trying to say that those that inter-family marry and then never have kids would be really an issue or anything. Sure, it's a bit bizarre in my opinion, but you can't ban them from procreating.

There was much rejoicing when Azizza said this:

Well, See, Gay's dont usually have children (unless they adopt). "Inner Family Marriages" cause birth defects. So the difference between the gay couple and the Incestual couple is that the incestual couple creates a baby with deformities (that is to say if the baby even lives passed birth.)

You said, and I quote, that gay marriage would "bankrupt Social Security overnight" and that there would be widespread cutbacks if businesses were forced to "pay out equal benefits to a whole new pool of people", that the "economic reprocussions" outweigh the need for equal rights.

Oh, so you're voting for Bush.
Lots of people vote for what they believe in. That should be a good thing. However, in many cases it's just a wasted vote that could've gone to a candidate that actually has a chance. I'd rather see Kerry over Bush, but really I'd like to see someone like General Clark in office.
I don't know if either candidate will be an improvement, but I've decided to give my vote to Kerry.
