Post Script: Johnny Depp is a very attractive man. If you say otherwise, your opinion is null in my eyes.

Best picture is at the end, of course. It's the one we're waiting for.

Also, there's a link in this thread that shows who has won what.

You realize he was talking about the best male lead, right? Johnny Depp is superior to Sean Penn in every role he's even played.

I don't really follow Johnny Depp's or Sean Penn's work, so I couldn't say there. But they give it based on the person's performance in that movie, and while Depp was funny, I wouldn't say he really went through any extraordinary acting.

While I do feel that Penn didn't deserve it, I don't think Depp did either. Depp carried PotC, and it was a pretty average movie otherwise, and that's what led to his loss. Can't really win a lead actor role if the movie wasn't considered very good itself.

In comparison to Sean Penn's work in Mystic River, Johnny Depp was fucking GOD. I also thought Mystic River was horrible.

I guess some people will have to agree to disagree on that point. I personally believe his acting was extraordinary and much more than just "funny." His role wasn't deep or artistic, but not only did he give his character life, he gave the characters around him life, and the world around him life. If that is not impressive acting, I don't know what is.

Just think about, for a moment, how much the movie would've sucked without Depp's protrayal of Jack Sparrow. As far as I'm concerned, he's also the only reason the movie did well. When I went the first time, the theater was only about half full. A few weeks of word-of-mouth later I went back and it was full. People loved him in that movie, myself included. He made the movie colorful and if I may say, fantastic.

This is just my opinion though.

As an addendum to Suddar, I've gotta note that Penn in Mystic River was backed by Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, Marcia Gay Harden, Laura Linney etc. etc. Some of the best actors ever. Top off with Clint Eastwood directing and you have a superstar's cast.

Depp had Geoffery Rush in a smaller supporting role.

Some consideration has to be given for deck-stacking.
