I know how to do backflips, butterfly kicks, and all sortsa really impressive things. I can't do them though. Muscle memory and conditioning is very important.
If the machines are going to let all the podpeople out, like the Architect claimed, aren't they effectively commiting suicide?

They're letting the ones out that want out. Some people'd rather stay in. Like Cypher. Once again, the problem is choice.

Because it wouldn't make ANY sense to just build solar collectors since bright blue sky with infinite sunlight is a 3 second flight away from the surface... Stupid machines

It's a short term answer. Who knows what they'll do in several years.

Wait, the sun that is always there is a short term answer as opposed to an unstable computer world manned by programs that go rogue and don't want to be there powered by living beings that must be cared for and could wake up at any time and that periodically produce a 'One' who could blow the whole thing up in their faces is a long term solution? COnsidering they are running off a whole bunch of D cell batteries, I think all of two large solar collectors would be more than enough to trigger whatever the heck fusion they are using, that the humans help power [ 11-06-2003: Message edited by: Vorago ]

If you remember right, the machines DID run off the sun. Then the humans scorched the sky. It's presumed that the machines can't un-scorch it. Maybe together they'll be able to fix the sky, and switch to the sun as their new power supply. Making this new Matrix only a short term answer.

So? the sky is fine above the clouds, as Trinity saw when they flew above them, taking all of 3 seconds, to get over the defense system. I would think the machines, capable of creating the Matrix, would find a skyscraper with a big solar panal on top a relatively simple achievement

But then how do they control the humans at the same time? By leaving the Zionites to fight to rescue minds, they keep them from being very reproductive and working on uprising. The Matrix is only partially about powering the machines. But, if this were the real world, you'd be correct. This, however, isn't reality.
I have a friend that works for warner brothers and is working on the special features of the dvd for revolutions and has shown me some very interesting alternate endings that I think would have made for a much more interesting movie. The first one I saw was the internet theory about the entire human race being machines. Possibly this was not used because they thought the suprise was ruined? The second one was more of a "just because we can". It ended the movie with Smith defeating Neo and destroying the machine and human races. There were some very cool special effects and it really put a dark twist on the movie. Personally I thought this ending would have been very powerful and would have set it apart from the same old tragic hero story. The last ending panned over the fields of humans and implied that the capital city was not in fact the real world but just another form of control. It made it a little more interesting but there were still a lot of unanswered questions. I was loaned the dvd with these endings on it by my friend and am in the process ripping it right now. It will be online in a few days for those of you that are interested.

Uhhh... won't this get your friend wholly blacklisted from the movie business for all time? It's a big no-no to leak studio information prior to release.
My thoughts:
I love the whole Messiah/Jesus thing at the end. Neo is Jesus, he saves us all (machines(Romans) and Humans(Oppressed People)) by taking on our sins (embodied in Agent Smith who is the worst of both machine and human worlds) and then being cruxified via the surge of energy/code that went through his body, creating a cross like beam of light in both the real world and the Matrix. Now the slate is kinda wipped clean for all thinking being upon earth to try and work out their differences through Neo's sacrafice.

I agree. Very nice and will probably get it banned in some countries. One thing that did kinda bother me though. What is the little girl.
I must say I'm glad that they didn't make the world of Xion another matrix. The fight with Smith was rather overdone, like at several points there I definatly thought "Dragonball Z." What I think they should have done, was when they got into that training-room type thing from the first movie, should have done their final fight there, mirroring the first movie training fight with Morpheus. It was the same room, anyway, I am sure of it.

Well, my thought is, remember what her father said at the beginning of the movie. Every program has to have a purpose to be in the Matrix. I think maybe her purpose was controlling the weather/sky. She made a sunrise at the end, and when she was absorbed by Smith, he could of made it raining that night he and Neo fought, using her powers.
First the humans realized that all the programs aren't bad (the humans and the Oracle). Then the machines realized that not all of humans were bad (people in train station getting along with Neo) Remember, in the animatrix, the short where the people befriended the machine? The theme here is that there is such a thing as peaceful co-existance. Humans thought they were perfect. It nearly destroyed them. At the end of the movie, they realized this. They realized that you can't "win" by destroying; you only end up destroying yourself. As for the girl, she is an innocent, virgin child, the link of unconditional acceptance and love between two sentient races. She symbolizes how pure respect and love can bind different people together. The sunset at the end? If you think the girl is the symbol of the cooperation between the two races, they can bring back the Sun for the good of both races. Like Waisz said, all in all it was a very religious movie. I thought the creators did a great job of maintaining a subtle, poignant theme. [ 11-08-2003: Message edited by: Demos ]
Then the machines, in true dramatic irony, thought they were perfect. And smith nearly destroyed them.
When Trinity is flying the ship up higher and higher several bolts of lightning struck it. This killed all the sentinals attached to the ship. It must've killed the ship too, which is why they fell.
I doubt the machines could've built somthing that wouldn't have gotten struck by lightning.
After the movie I had some fun. I went into the bathroom full of people and walked up to the nearest urinal. I looked down, unzipped, and said "Mr. Urinal, suprised to see me?" adding in with other lines like "Why do you continue to fight, why?!". I used a couple other lines, but pretty much everyone in the bathroom came out and lost it. It was good knowing I had made someone laugh.

I never really thought of the machines in that way but that makes sense.
So does that make the machine that Neo talked with Pontius Pilate? Also, my thoughts about Smith was that he is the Devil. I thought it was most obvious when he was making his rant at the end. He wasn't taunting Neo when he asked him why he kept on getting up. Smith was very frustrated because he couldn't understand. Also, when Neo explains his actions with a simple "Because I choose to," its symbolizes that he has finally reached true enlightenment. According to Eastern philosophy, a person who justifies his actions through reasons or emotions can never be enlightened. A true enlightened person needs no justification for their actions.
But then I thought, no, they wouldn't do that...
And then...
Aside from that I loved the movie. And also...didn't Neo, to an extent, use kung fu against Smith in the real world? I thought I saw a few kung fu blocks and stuff...but not as much, because in the Matrix Neo was used to being able to do the moves by bending the laws of physics and whatnot, the entire style depends to an extent on a world that is directly malleable by willpower. Or that's my takeupo on it anyway.
I really like your interpretation of it Kat.

Zion, not Xion.
No, Really. Bite me.
The impression I got from the death of Smith was that, simply put, he opened himself up to a program vulnerability: he took over Neo, and plugged himself into the direct link to the machine that controlled the Matrix. The machine analyzes Smith's code, isolates it--and deletes it. Basically, Norton Antivirus saves the world. Also, I got more of a King Arthur vibe from Neo: the half-slain warrior king (seemingly gone, but still emitting light) being carried off by the deity figure on a funeral boat to an Avalon of sorts, to be preserved until the world needed him again.
All in all, I liked it.

He did the same thing when he absorbed the Oracle. That's why he was saying 'I'm supposed to stand right here, and say something, and...WUT?' etc.
As an aside, did anyone else find it hilarious when Neo slow-mo punched Smith and the flesh on his cheek started moving around like Jello? Or the line "See past these gelatin eyes!" [ 11-08-2003: Message edited by: Gunslinger Moogle ]

The story of King Arthur is in itself an allegory to the story of Jesus.

Not gelatin eyes, it's "brown cow eyes" or "slow cow eyes", something with "cow". The flesh is gelatin.

It's different this time because the machines allow those that want out to leave, instead of trying to keep them (as in previous matrices).
Also, what Vorbis said.
