Anyone else got any close quotes to them?
quote:
To rebel against a powerful political, economic, religious, or social establishment is very dangerous and very few people do it, except, perhaps, as part of a mob. To rebel against the "scientific" establishment, however, is the easiest thing in the world, and anyone can do it and feel enormously brave, without risking as much as a hangnail. Thus, the vast majority, who believe in astrology and think that the planets have nothing better to do than form a code that will tell them whether tomorrow is a good day to close a business deal or not, become all the more excited and enthusiastic about the bilge when a group of astronomers denounces it.

All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveller, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could. To where it bent in the undergrowth,Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear, Though as for that, the passing there Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less travelled by, And that has made all the difference.

I don't have a serious quote. =( But this one made me laugh hard.
quote:
"When power leads man to arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of mans concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses, for art establishes the basic human truths which must serve as the touchstone of our judgment."

According to my OED, the only noun form of "quote" refers to a short form of "quotation marks."
Websters does list the meaning you have, but it is improper usage. That's the fallacy: being listed in a dictionary means people use a word in a given manner, not that it's proper to do so.
Of course, there is constant tension between proper and vulgar usage, and the language evolves, sometimes in unexpected ways. But if one is going to use that as justification for sloppy speaking, we might as well all jump on the Ebonics bandwagon, as it's obviously the wave of the future.
