Well, i normally use Machina or The_Machina as a screen name, but here, I was The_machina, but someone changed it to limp_Machina, and that's just not cool.

So, being the ignorant noob that i am, instead of asking drys to change my name for me, i just made a new account, The_Mac. Well, over time, The_Mac became Big_Mac, then The Burger.

So, it's kind of a metamorphosis.

I really need to figure out where to go from here.

No, Really. Bite me.

Densetsu
NOT DRYSART
posted 01-27-2003 02:45:10 PM
For several years, I've been a huge fan of anime. Well, this naturally leads to a fascination with the Japanese language.

Back in my old chat room FFRP days, seeing 'densetsu' in a name was fairly common in the area I RPed in, so I never used it.

Then I went to EQ. Densetsu was not my first character, or my first Monk. I started out on the Erollisi Marr server, because it had the fewest people on it when I first logged on. My first character was a High Elf Paladin named Gojita. That didn't last too long before one of my friends told me to go to Tarew Marr so I could play with him.

My first character there was a dark elf necromancer. While there, I created a Human Monk named Genadin from the random name generator. I chose it because it was similar to my friend's name, Genadas.

Well, after a while, I quit EQ for about a month or so. When I came back, I went to the Test server. I needed a name. Densetsu popped into my head, and I had liked it, and I'd never seen anyone else with it on EQ, ever, so I chose it.

On Test is where I learned the real truths about the Monk class. Things like the weight limit, and that fists were better than weapons, things that were previously unknown to me, because I never went to spoiler sites (didn't even know of any). Now that I'd returned to EQ, some of my RL friends urged my to go to Mithaniel Marr to play with them. So I did. I recreated Densetsu there, and had already thought up a surname for when I got him to 20, Shinryuuken. That's where I've been ever since, and the Densetsu identity has just stuck with me.

'Densetsu' means 'legend' or 'legendary' in Japanese. 'Shin' means 'new,' 'ryuu' means 'dragon,' and 'ken' means 'fist,' or 'sword,' or 'hit,' etc.

So Densetsu Shinryuuken means, roughly, 'Legendary New Dragonfist.'

Schalaa Zeal is from Chrono Trigger. When I was creating the character, 'Schala' looked like it was missing something. So I added another A to make it seem more, I dunno, exotic. I personally prefer my spelling of it.

I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl, we ate lobster, drank piƱa coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over, and over?

Straight out of an EQ name generator. It just stuck.

The other name I used to go by... well... I'm not proud of it. Today, it sounds extremely stupid to me.

I misspelled it once in Halo, and that's sticking with me a little more...

Soidar.

So I might go to that sometime.

Having zero creativity, I turned to the WCII manual to choose names. I liked Terenas so I dropped the 's' to make it more feminine sounding.

Azalyn was another name I was fond of but I decided to stick with just one character and take that name as the surname. I shortened it a bit though since it seemed to flow better without the two extra letters.

There was a signature here... it's gone now.

I believe I got a random name (something like Sudadur), removed and changed a couple letters, and bam.

Williams, the "surname," just seemed like a good surname for a barbarian warrior. The name never really stuck though, I don't use it outside of EC; it doesn't really get as much love as some of my other "personas" mostly because I just don't like it as much.

Aziza is a character in Quest for Glory 2, so, while it may have come from a DnD book, there's also that possibility.

Taeldian was altered from the random name generator in EQ.

Drakken is a corruption of the German "drachen," which of course means dragon. The other word is rather obvious.

It is pronounced with an "ah" vowel sound.

I used it because it seemed a suitable monk name. I then figured out that I preferred Freeport to Qeynos, and started over there as Drakkenclaw. Which ended up being far more effective name-wise, because I could put in the last name of Steeltalon.

When signing up here, though, after unregistered posting was removed, I accidentally deleted the password to Drakkenclaw before typing it in to log in. My memory being as crappy as it is, I forgot what it was - and being somewhat shy to ask Drys for the password to the name I JUST MADE, I decided it'd be easier to go with Drakkenmaw instead.

Delphi Aegis

posted 01-27-2003 05:18:38 PM
I don't know where I originally got the name "Delphi", but I think it was from the Diablo days. No, the first one. It seemed appropriate for an amazon to be named Delphi, just because I couldn't be a guy.

As for Aegis.. Hmm..

When I started Delphi on EQ, I knew nothing. But I eventually crawled my way up through the ranks to 18th or so. Then, I saw the new armour quests coming out for pallies, and heard rumours of smithing being a major part. So of course, I spent a good amount of plat getting my wonderful 45 skill in smithing (That's a lot of metal bits. ) and set to work on levelling again. When time came to choose a name.. I remember it well, actually.
I was in south Karana.. the hermit camp, to be exact. I finally killed 'em, and got my level, then wondered what I was going to be. Well, since I was a smith (I was still aspiring to be a master smith at that point, heh) that was going to make some armour, I wanted to take the name from armour out of one of the FFs. One of them happened to be Aegis.

Unfortunatly, there are "Glyphed Aegis" in MM, and supposedly, they don't like that. So my name was denied. I had to go with Ageis for the longest time.
When I was around 30, I finally got hold of a GM. Ozzmar to be exact. He caught me medding (Hooray for still staring at the book), didn't say anything, changed my name, and left. I didn't notice, of course, and logged out confused as hell, after asking him to change it. He changed it back.

The next day I got our senior guide, Mandybeth, to change it. She whacked Ozzmar with the surname "The confuser" just for shits and giggles.

A year or so later in KC, we were having an ooc argument about a player's name.. specifically Cwunk. He said it was the sound his balls made when they hit the bedpost. I kept making jokes about metal balls, and all that. But it eventually got me wondering about my own name.

I shoved it through dictionary.com, and found out that Delphi is relating to the oracle at Delphi, (No, the oracle's name was NOT Delphi) but it could be used as a synonym for "Oracle". Aegis means Protection, and, well, for a pally.. I'd say that's pretty good.

Oracle of Protection. .. I sound like a Zelda game. :/

I was pissed off at my warrior on EQ, so I said that I am going to make a necro. (this is pre necro-anal-nerf) I looked at the classes that Necromancers could be, and saw Gnome.

Gnome Necromancer, Midget of Doom, Psycho Shorty, I just had to have it. That and I'm tall in real life, so there was more incentive.

So I distributed stats, and got to thinking of the name.

Necromancer, Death... hmmm... sounds good... my name needs to have Death in it. Ok, but Death will be accepted about as soon as ILIKEPIE, so I had to think of something else to add on. What do casters always talk about, what is always associated with them. Wait a sec, my warrior just died because the cleric fizzled, that's why I gave up. Casters always fizzle. Hmm... Fizzledeath? Nah, too fruity, Fizadeth, god no, no pokemon. Fiza Fizl Fizo... hmm... Fizodeath? Sounds good. REJECTED! Bah, Fizodeth. Awesome. Accepted.

Around this time, I was planning on giving my warrior up completely, so I registered on EC as Fizodeth Dethofizzles. Fizodeth stuck.

Ozius: I found the name "Oz" to be very cool and then tacked on an -ius seeing as I tend to make names sound Greek.

Ozimandre: Also written as Ozimander, with a mildly different pronunciation. It came during Kestar's game where people had "true names". Infact, Ozius accidently called the true name during idle conversation and brought forth the 8th Age, killing off all the drwarves (entirly), and many men and elves. Whoops. Based off the name "Ozymandias, King of Kings" or otherwise known as Ramesses II.

Jeremiah: I like that name.

Griswald: A twist on my name. While my first name is common and my last is somewhat obscure, Ozius would be considered a common fantasy name, or at least fit in a fantasy setting where as, Griswald might not (Not counting the smith from Diablo).

That is....how I got the whole character name. But he's my avatar, my weird personification so I used the names here.

My first was Asde, but that was a random string of letters I used for my EQ character. Then I made a new account here as Ozius the Unlucky, so on so forth.
