A common way to communicate in CS is voicechat, as most know. I've always sat back and listened to others chat back and forth, giving commands such as "guard me!" and "set up the bomb!" Other than a server I regularly visit (which D loathes, teehee), I never really communicated. Until today.
And God, did I ever make a mistake.
Jokingly, I said, "Rosa! I love you!" in a happy voice I usually have. RIGHT when I said that, a flood of "Muffins is a girl?" replies popped up. (Muffins is my alias) The other menfolk decided it'd be funny to imitate my voice and generally mock me, and females. I dealt with this for a few rounds before I told Rosa I was heading back to IRC.
Why am I taking it so personally? I don't know... I just wanted to have a good time killin' people with my new Phoenix skin (thanks Rosa for the link), but it ended up in disaster (IMO). Maybe I let stuff get to me too easily, but I honestly wanted to cry. I hate being made fun of. My voice isn't the greatest... I've had a minor speaking 'disability' since I was small. Plus... just the fact I was a female gamer... they really ruined my gaming experience. They made me feel inferior; a joke. It's just a game, I know. But why is it getting to me so?
Sigh.
Okay, angst off. Back to happy mode.
*hugs*

Black Mage had this to say about John Romero:
Taking insults from CS players seriously is dumb. 8\
Maybe, but it was consistant. Like, they wouldn't drop it.
dun let it get to you
quote:'ur a fag' It's consistant because they can't think of anything more intellegent to do, or any other insults.
Adrecia Tru'Ril obviously shouldn't have said:
Maybe, but it was consistant. Like, they wouldn't drop it.
=/
A considerable number of females play on the servers I do... at least enough to make it so it's not a huge deal when one connects. =/
Reactions are funnee.

A lot of times, yeah, I can't stand people like that...
That's one of the reasons I was so determined to become remotely decent at CS or FA: So that when they mess with me, I can prove, on their grounds, that I can beat them.
All the same, Half-Life Mod Players are up there with the people in AOL Lobbies in terms of Internet Social Relations...

I swear, you could do 10 year inter-curricular study on the geometry, physics, psychology, and sociology of de_dust and the behavior of players in it as a setting...
You could write enough for a Masters Thesis in all those things, I swear.
Off the top of my head, I can BS atleast 5 pages of psychology on de_dust.
I'm so sick of Dust, bleh... I doubt there are any truly original rounds in dust anymore, . I don't think there's a single spot on the map that's never been hit by a bullet, a single tactic that's never been tried...
I really think de_dust needs to be removed from the next version of Half-Life. Dust only servers bug the hell out of me...
I'll play there sometimes, and be like,
"Don't you guys get sick of playing dust all the time?"
"no"
"No."
"kno"
"no"
"no"
"(RADIO) Negative"
"never"
"nope"
"no"

That has me giggling hysterically, and I'm not sure why.

Fazum'Zen Fastfist obviously shouldn't have said:
Reason one why I don't play Counter-Strike. Too many 11 year old "hackers" with the beta of AOL playing, pretending like the game is something new and cool.
Blanket statements ahoy!
I get the same results

It is possible to enjoy an old game, you know.
I happen to enjoy CounterStrike still, even though I suck now.
Hell, I like playing Quake 2 on the LAN at the Campus Lab, because I'm playing with mostly friends, and at the very least, other people in the lab.
I just feel ashamed playing it for some reason
