It isn't just you.
Seems that being Anti-American is "in thing" for teenagers for the most part right now. It seems to carry over to the "oh I have to be different" crowd of young adults. They will embrace Anti American Propoganda But if anyone says anything Pro American they imidiatly dismiss it as Evil American Propoganda. I saw it a lot at a lecture we gave about two weeks ago. Pretty sad really.

You should've watched the "How Ancient Rome effects the Modern World" documentary that was on a few weeks back. Talking about how America is the Rome of today, and will literally stop at nothing to remove those who don't share their values, while covering it up as 'Keeping The Peace'.

Sounds biased, but it wasn't, as several Americans were agreeing with the show presenter. It was actually kind of scary.

The infiltration part was fun.

Talking about how McDonalds and other major US icons (Coke, Pepsi, clothing lables and designs, etc.) were sprouting up all over, in an effort to standardise the world to American thinking and ideals.

Note that these are not my words.

I like America. I think its basic infrastructure (with a little bit of heavy tweaking and more rigid laws) will become the global standard for a planetary government. I just don't like the "We are better than you" minority I see sometimes.

Rational criticism would be something like "Bush isn't cooperating enough with the united nations", which I agree with.

"Bush is letting political affiliations interfere with war decisions" would be another rational criticism. I just happen to agree with that one as well.

Most kids that I hang around with aren't too bad; sometimes they rant about the government or something like how the economy sucks right now -- but it's not anything (from what I've seen around here) made into a trend like 'It's cool to hate your country'.

On the contrary, I know a few people in my school on 9/11 last year who actually clapped when they heard about what had happened. They went around with anarchy signs and 'America Sucks' written on their hands and arms, and got a few people to join them in their little anti-America campaign. I'm willing to bet they all (or most of them) really didn't feel that way, but just felt like they just needed to be different. It's really sad when you have to try to be someone you're not just to get attention.

McDonalds is evil, though not cause its trying to take over the world, have you tasted their shakes recently, how can you screw up a shake!!. I dont think that america is trying to standerdize the world, it is happening, but i just think that for some odd, douglas adams/terry prachet sort of way, the american way is just addictive. I think its just that, there is so much freedom, and we make a big deal about the freedoms, that other people just go "hey, women can do anything they want and be anything they want." or " they dont need permission to travel." and want some of that, sorta like the busisness, were america is the Cost Co. of the world. As for this war thing, i dont want one, but i do think its neccisary to take out Bin laden, Hassiun(sp?) and other terriosts and evil people, cause as long as they are around, we will need to fight, cause they will want to fight, unfortuntly, its the fight or surrender situation, and when it comes to countrys, its going to be fight, especialy when its a country as big as america, cause if we dont have, they will just keep attacking, killing more innocent people, and basicly in the end, destroy it. Until the people that are trying to start fights are gone, there is going to be fights.

People can draw whacky comparisons from anything if they look at it from an extreme view point.

For a while, there was a huge group that claimed the cartoon series the Smurfs were spreading communist propaganda.

Comparing the United States to Rome is just as silly as my previous example.

I learned a long time ago that the United States Govt. is perfectly willing to lie (or at least tell half truths) to the people if it will get them to believe what the Govt. wants them to believe. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that Bush is wrong in wanting to attack Iraq, However, I am a little wary of it.

I agree with ousting Hussein. He's a maniac who shouldn't have been in his position of power in the first place. HOWEVER (you just knew it, didn't you) there is one thing that bugs me with the current campaign to turn him into jam:

The timing.

Hussein was in power for a while now. And he's always been a crazy bastard. He COULD have been ousted a while back, but he wasn't. This campaign COULD have been started at any time he was a) in power and b) a crazy bastard. But it wasn't. It was started NOW. When America is dying down enough from the post-911 furor to realize "hey, we don't have bin Laden's corpse yet". Bush needs a target. And Hussein is the absolute PERFECT target. He's a crazy bastard with power. His people hate him and would gladly stick him with a spike. He has veyr few loyal people left. He's quite possibly the most fucked person in the world right now. A good target to distract people from the fact that Bush dosen't have Osama yet.

At least that's what I see. I could be wrong.
