On Odus:
The Vasty Deep
The Grand Plateau
The Barren Coast
Gulf of Uzun(this may be the body of water in Stonebrunt)
On Antonica:
Winters Deep
Lake Neriuss (think this may be the body of water in Nektulos)
The Dead Hills
The Frigid Plain, The Northlands, The Hatchland, The Nest(probably subzones of Everfrost)
Unkempt Wood
Jaggedpine Forest (Probably Surefall Glade)
Rujarkian Hills(part of South Ro, I think)
The Buried Sea
Broken Skull Rock
Gulf of Gunthak
On Faydwer:
Hills of Shade
Ranthok's Ridge
The Loping Plains
Wayunder Lake
Elizerian Lake
Dragonscale Hills(probably a subzone of Steamfont)
On Kunark:
Lake of Dismay
Dragon Drool
The Broken Teeth (may be name of islands in Tim Deep)
Nothing unidentifiable on Velious... they all correspond to known zones or featurea within them.
Any ideas where these places actually are within the known zones, if they in fact exist in a place you can get to?
A while back people mentioned if these zones would be implemented and Verant's response was "perhaps in the future".
There are some ingame references here and there, Unkempt Druids for example. Surefall Glade is part of the Jaggedpine Forest, hence their being referred to as the Jaggedpine Treefolk.
Would be interesting to see the entire world fleshed out eventually. [ 01-31-2002: Message edited by: KaLourin DthBlayde ]

Well I can't think of any other lands they can base expansions on. Except maybe various godly planes.

an entire subterranean realm would be interesting, similiar to the cavernous realms of Luclin. There's also dozens of potential connection points in the existing continents for these zones, should they ever be made.
Skaw, I've seen a screenshot of that globe. There's another Antonica sized continent on the other side of the planet, or something like that right? [ 01-31-2002: Message edited by: KaLourin DthBlayde ]
Faydwer lacks Wayunder lake, Loping plains, Elizerain lake, and Ranthok's ridge. Dragonscale hills is the south part of Steamfont where the Gnome place is. Hills of shade is the east part of BB.
Atonica lacks the northlands, the hatchland, Unkempt woods, winter's deep, Lake Neriuss, the dead hills, Gulf of Gunthak, the Buried Sea, and Broken skull rock. The Nest is in Halas. Frigid plains is in Everfrost like Skaw said. Jaggedpine forest is Surefall. Rujarkian hills is part of South Ro.
Kunark lacks only the Lake of Dismay. Dragon Drool is in Trakanon's Teeth and the Broken Teeth are in Field of Bone.
It has a few places here and there that are never discussed in the book. So why are they there? To make the world .. Fleshy. It makes the world that much more complete, even if you can never actually go to those places.
At least, that was the explination Verant is sticking to.

It seems likely that an undiscovered continet would be a good place for an expansion someday... much like Kunark and Velious were (Kunark was simply forgotten, Velious only recently discovered by the gnome pirates). It seems likely that the non-existant places mentioned are both to a. flesh out the world, to make it seem more complete, and b. have areas of possible expansion in the future.
You probably remember that originally Kedge Keep, The Hole, and Stonebrunt Mountains were geographical features that weren't originally playable zones. Quite possibly these other geographical features will become visitable in future expansions.

Ah yes, Veksar... the zone that never was. Prima's RoK strategy guide mentions this place, as does the RoK indtruction book. You can actually see Veksar, kind of... there's a tunnel underwater (need enduring breath and the ability to dodge bloodgills to get to it) by the big ruins in the middle of the lake... but it's a dead end that doesn't go anywhere. I heard rumors that there actually was a zone hwere that was tried out for a short time on the Test Server, but bugs prevented it from ever going live, and it was forgotton in the shuffle to develop the Velious and Luclin expansions. Maybe someday they'll add this zone... was supposed to be an underwater dungeon like Kedge Keep if understand the concept, but with a few air pockets here and there. Maybe they'll patch it in, like they deep with Stonebrunt Mountains, a free additional zone... or maybe Veksar will just be forgotten, a zone that was going to be but never was.
Hope it's the first one... [ 01-31-2002: Message edited by: Troodon ]
Kedge Keep was in the game on release. The reason it seems like it wasn't is because for a very long time it had no mobs, for an even longer time it had no items, and when it finially got both mobs and items it had huge pathing and suicide issue. They eventually got most of the problems worked out, but the zone is still probably the buggiest in the game in terms of pathing and suicide issues.

Kedge Keep was always a zone. It just didn't have any items at all for over a year, and the pathing would make an early-day Unrest and Mistmoore veteran cry.
Kind of like the whole Odus situation. Having all those zones is good and well, but did Erudites really not notice The Hole and Paineel? (Warrens and Stonebrunt are "inside" Paineel, so I can understand that)
It's just silly. Kagrama teaching sex-ed silly.

Uhm.. Paineel wasn't 'found'. It was built on top of the ruins of old Paineel. It's not like it was always there and suddenly the Necromancers decided they didn't like that silly little hut in the middle of the forest. They built it.
And the Hole is also inside Paineel. They've also always known about the Hole, but there was no entrance until the Necromancers started tunneling out the mountain to build their new city.
Then some explorers went down there and found a huge locked gate. They managed to get it open, which free'd all the elementals that someone had sealed in after the creation of the Hole.
the Hole wasn't origonaly created to send the Vah Sirs to the moon, it was created during that little bitch fight the necros and evil erudites had with the good ones.

Nowhere does it say the Hole was created to do that. It does, however, say that when the magic was unleashed that created the Hole a SIDE EFFECT was that some of the Kerrans got teleported to Luclin.

I believe I remember seeing that in a patch message when the Hole went live. No mention of flinging a giant rock to space. Just a Heretic vs Erudite fight.

Who said anything about flinging a giant rock to space? They were teleported.
The Hole was created by that fight between the factions of erudites, not to get rid of Vah Sirs, or Karrens

Comrade_Snoota had this to say about Captain Planet:

Erm, no they weren't. Big rock that was the Hole before it became a Hole went zooming off and hit Luclin. Now, I ask you, how the hell did the rock do a 180 degree spin while presumably being hurled by great magical forces. I mean, you'd assume it wouldn't have spun and all the cats would have went splat.

Aanile had this to say about pies:
Yes it does. In the first guide book you get. It detailed the fight between the good and corrupt erudites, which a great magical weapon was used that ripped a HOLE into the ground. It *never* mensioned the Vah Sir's being flung into space to Luclin untill they made the expansion.
HEY! MAYBE BECAUSE NOBODY KNEW ABOUT THE KERRANS BEING FLUNG INTO SPACE UNTIL AL'KABOR(err.. whatever the hell his name is ) OPENED A PORTAL TO LUCLIN AND THEY WERE FOUND THERE?
Duh.
So they gave up, but dislike Erudites anyway (Start an erudite. Evil or non. Betcha they wont like you in Kerra ridge.). Then, when the heretics and the eruds started fighting, they got blown waaaay up there, and started anew in the crater that was formed by the rock.
Keep in mind this is millenia ago, plenty of time to develop a Patriarchal society with Shamans, rogues, and beastlords.
The overall feel in Shar Vahl is very spiritual.. No, I mean they're connected with the spirit realm. Its a very nice atmosphere. Whee!
Tangents rock.
It was a bloody rewrite Snoota...
The Erudite/Kerran relationship is much like the American Settlers/Native American relationship. The Erudites land on their island, kill most of them, take their land, then shove them in their little hole.
You talk to the Erudites and you find out about how savage the Kerrans were. You talk to the Kerrans and you find out about how they just wanted to be left alone. Both sides have contradicting histories. It just happens to be that the Erudite one is generally accepted. Because 'history is written by the victors'. You just have to actually LOOK for the other side. It just happens to be that the Kerran history was accurate in this case.
Just because the story wasn't in the ERUDITE history doesn't mean it wasn't in the game. The story of the Erudite magic sending Kerrans to Luclin has been in the game for at least a year and a half. I don't really recall when Kerra Isle was changed.
What you are doing is known as 'bitching for the sake of bitching'. So, in closing, STFU, GTFO, SMMFD, and HAGG.

I used to be a big buff of Norrathian Lore, and often talked to Abashi and Brad about it whenever I could get their attention.
They way I remembered, before the Hole zone was put in (Yes, the Hole was known before then, ), there had previously been that grand fight between the Erudites and Heretics, and in the final struggle, a horrible blast of mixed magical energies from both sides was unleashed on the battlefield (which, had been a peaceful Kerran hamlet).
Now, I never heard anything about them being flung to Luclin on a giant rock that used to be where the Hole is now. A link to that would be helpful.
The phrasing, I believe, was that "caught in the blast, the helpless tribe of Kerrans was flung to the moon by the magical energies."
Well, This doesn't really mean that they were on a chunk of rock that got blown to the moon...
Very easily, the rock where the Hole is could simply have been obliterated (a la Balefire), and the chaotic mix of energies warped the Kerrans to the moon (perhaps sent in the general direction of the moon, and then pulled their by the Nexus, like the Combinians were).
If they ever do make The Hole connect to a subterranean zone (like the Plane of Underfoot or whatever), I'd like to see a Velious entrance placed at the estimated spot of where Veeshan's talons scarred the planet or something.

Aanile had this to say about Captain Planet:
HEY MAYBE BECAUSE IT SAID IN THE REWRITE DURING THE EXPANSION THAT THE REASON THE HOLE WAS MADE WAS BECAUSE THE ERUDITES WANTED TO GET RID OF THEM!!! SO WE KNEW!!It was a bloody rewrite Snoota...
You are incorrect. They never said that was WHY the hole was created. They just said it happened as a result. Sending the Kerrans to Luclin was NEVER the REASON.
It came to pass some years later that a small group of Erudites discovered the lost art of Necromancy. They were branded heretics and a great conflict arose. For the first time in several hundred years, the Erudites fought. They ingaged in a civil war not entirely dissimilar to that which they had loathed and fled from back on the mainland. But there was one very significant difference - They did not use swords and bows, but rather magic, and the result was terrible. Lives by the hundreds were lost, great buildings and structures destroyed, and eventually the heretics were forced to flee Erudin, to hide and regroup in the southern regions of Odus.
In one final battle, great mystic energies were released and an immense hole leading to unknown deapths beneath the earth (*coughNorrathcough*) was created. Into the sides of this chasm the heretics built their own city which they called Paineel. And while both sides still seethed with anger and hatred towards one another, their fear of what the last battle had wrought has kept any further conflict at bay.
No, in the original book, it does not mention the kerrans at all. But if you go into the paineel library and purchase some books, you will find the history rather well detailed. Now please, stop the flames.

teleported or flung.. there was NO mension of this race or why they were put onto Luclin untill the expansion. The Hole was created by that fight between the factions of erudites, not to get rid of Vah Sirs, or Karrens
Actually, the Kerrans were mentioned, and were in fact present, on Erud's Crossing, Toxxulia, and Kerra's Isle since the game's initial release.
The Hole was in fact created by the civil war between the two factions of Erudites. However, a side effect of the creation of The Hole was that the entire city of Vah Shir was blasted to Luclin. It wasn't the result of any malicious intent of the Erudites to get rid of them; the vah shir just had the misfortune to ger caught in the crossfire of the Erudites' war.
"Vah Shir" was not mentioned... only the Vah Shir themselves used this name to refer to themselves(after the name of their original city on Odus), and thus until Alkabor met the descendants of the survivors of the Hole's creation, this name would not be known to anyone on Norrath, because they didn't start using the name "Vah Shir" to refer to themselves until their arrival on Luclin. "Kerran" was the name the Erudites used to refer to the portion of their race that was left behind on Norrath, they never called themselves that. The remainder of their race that was left behind later adopted the name the Erudites gave them.
Vah Shir, Kerrans, and Kejekans, are likely all the some species, but different races within the species. Probably about as similar as barbarians, erudites, and humans are to each other. [ 01-31-2002: Message edited by: Troodon ]

There are Dead-end zonelines in Luclin, at various places, one obvious one in Netherbian, in the Trog Cave, huge opening that forces you back if you try to go in.
Yep, there's another one in Shadeweaver's Thicket too, in the NW part of the zone. (On the Eqatlas map, it's labeled as unknown zone.) I went in there to take a peek; there's two mobs that look like fire elementals that were red indifferent, at the end of the tunnel there's a mob ready to attack, that conned red to me at 39, so I didn't pursue it any further (I talked to somebody who was level 50 who saw the same mob, he said it conned blue to him). Possible future zone, maybe? That's probably why the put so many dead end zone lines on Luclin, they want room to possibly expand in the future. [ 01-31-2002: Message edited by: Troodon ]

I had the Dubious misfortune to be one of the firts to run into this guy. I conned the elementals and saw they were indif so I headed on through to see what was there. The guy and his elementals killed me before I knew what had hit me. Supposedly he is a bit of an underconn. red to Azizza at 45 but blue when I was 49. so he must be 48 or perhaps has a level range.
