It's the truth

The truth sometimes upsets people...

The thing about the truth is, you can handle it several different ways. For example, let's I'm standing next to another person who is, for lack of a better term, hygenically challenged. I can handle this situation in one of two ways:

Tactfully:

I quietly pull him aside and say "Hey man, you coming across a bit ripe. Maybe you should go hit the shower real quick and throw on a fresh set of duds."

or Not Tactfully:

I wait until a number of people are around and then loudly announce "Jesus Christ you stink! What'd you do, sleep inside a freakin' sewer or something? Go clean your disgusting self up, you hog!"

Can you see where even though I'm saying bascially the same thing, option one is the far better way to go about it? Just because it's true doesn't make option two any more acceptable to say.

Koska Kintaro had this to say about Jimmy Carter:
Hey if you can't play anymore I'm sorry for you, seriously, but it's flat out rediculous to actually think you could keep the same archaic old OS and still play all the latest games, and blaming the developers for something that's clearly your fault won't change jack.

Exactly.

Please Kal, it's not that I don't feel sorry for them.

Yes, I admit that my diction as of late has been snippy and sarcastic. I'm sorry about that. The fact remains that blaming Verant for upgrading an outdated game engine won't solve anything. They aren't going to "fix" it.

Again: I'm sorry about my attitude, I'm sorry about my rude commentary, but I don't owe an apology to somebody just because they have an outdated system. That's the only thing I was refusing to apologize for. I'm fully aware that they are unable to upgrade due to financial constraints, but I really don't see a "fix" for this in the future.

JooJoo had an excellent comparison of my replies to the much more sensible replies of almost everyone else in this thread...:

That's why when you tell someone their grandma has died you don't say "...and boy, did she cause such a stink in her home when they found her rotting, maggot-ridden corpse!"

Call's was on target as well, but you can just scroll up a bit to read that.

As Lyinar said...:

Kegwen's spoiled brat comments made his point any more.

A well-thought out, empathic post like Khyron's makes a point. Belittling, degrading and mocking posts like Kegwen's do not.

I'm through with that, even though I may disagree with her idea of "belittling" and "degrading".

Have a nice day.

I agree with Kanid. From a CS angle, the way this was handled was very bad form. They shouldn't be expected to hold back a game for outdated systems, but they also shouldn't completely ignore part of their player base, and not give enough advance warning that they might have been able to upgarde, or at least be expecting not to be able to play anymore, before they launched the new expansion.

Well, what bothers me is that Nintendo stopped making SNES games (which had a lot of great games), altogether, and started making a ton of really crappy N64 games (with a few gems, here and there).

Actually, I could play SoL right now, but I don't want to scrape the bottom (I'm an impatient and picky person), so I'm just upgrading my computer, which is something that will be useful in the future for things other than just SoL. (Like Renaissance Ages of Milan, the expansion pack for DAoC, also coming, the Prequel, Philosophical Ages of Athens)...

It is a sad thing, but this is one of those parts of playing an Online game, things change, and people do get screwed over, but there's nothing you can do about them, really. You can cry about them (and yes, there has been an experience in an old MORPG that I cried over, specificly when the game was shut down).

It's just one of those things... I'm sorry it happened, I'm sure Verant is as well, but it was just something that went wrong (VI wanted DX8.1, and DX8.1 wanted >95.)

Sorry to everyone who can't play Luclin because of Windows 95, Hopefully, you can find a friends copy of Win98 or something (Really, it shouldn't be that hard, but I know that's not the point).

Dad's going to kill you. Really. He is.
