Apparently, not even religioun is safe from the feminazis.

Refering to God as male is apparently enforcing belief that men are superior to women.

I don't know why this is an issue for them, if they are Christian.

The Bible gives many instances where women are clearly held of a lesser value then men.

Yeah, the Bible IS rather slanted in the favor of men. I don't much see a problem here.

Religion is personal, and I know a lot of women who've been turned off of God and whatever various faiths spring up around him because there's little to no room in there for women. If people are offering alternatives with which to get women more active in their faith and maybe, just maybe in roles of authority and leadership... well, I don't exactly see a problem here. The article did mention that new methods of addressing God were proposed, not manditory.

This isn't rewriting the Bible any more than the many branch faiths of the whole Catholic-Christian-Whatever thing is. It's just a different way to worship, and a different means of addressing one's faith.

I wonder how these same people feel about the countless sitcoms, movies, and even kids cartoons that portray women as intrinsically superior to men.

Oh wait that's right, they don't give a shit about that kind of sexism because they don't give a rat's ass about equality, all they care about is using their victim status to flex political power and advance their personal agenda.

Now where the hell did you get that. You have said it before and it made no sense, and it still doesn't make any sense.

In fact, lets see.. In regards to debates over the sexes we've had several.

Um, Women in Combat, let's see... Oh yeah I was mostly against that. Hmm, so it's not there.

Male Roe Vs Wade, let's see... Oh yeah, I was pretty much for newer legislation for men.

Femenists, Hmm... Oh wait, I went on a rant against them too in one of Azakias threads because they piss me off.. Damn, so where is it.

If it involves boobs then sure I'm all for more boobs.

And you just love to cling to this Robert Jordan thing too, which is completely assinine, concidering one I haven't read the series in years and no longer follow it because it annoys me, and have said as much on several occasions. Also, I never really liked any of the female characters in the story anyway besides Min. So I really don't know what the hell you are talking about beyond being your usual asshole self making shit up to harp on. But thats okay I guess.

As far as the ORIGINAL confusion, I don't know what shows Maradon is even talking about. Granted I don't watch all that much TV, but I don't recall many besides the crap that comes on Lifetime, but who even watches that shit besides woman who would just be reading crappy romance novels anyway. There are probably a few shows for girls, and women I guess, but I can't think of any really prevailant ones.

Watch almost any show or movie that deals with the issue of sexism in any way that isn't 100% strictly scientific, and you will see them try to claim that girls can do anything boys can do only ten times better, girls are always smarter than boys, etc.

Sexism is rampant in entertianment, people just don't see it because it's not coming from a direction that they've been trained to expect.

That's just it... I can't think of any current shows that deal with sexism. Aside from possibly Will and Grace, in part, but that's more sexuality and rather gay - Literally. If I recall, Grace was rather retarded in that show anyway. Can;t say for sure because I hated it and try to tune it out when it's on in the house.

And well.. the new X-Men movie I guess, but that was so horribly bad I try not to even recall it.

It's the same with TV over here. Girls vs boys themed anything always have the girls win. ALWAYS.

Because they'd get flooded with sexist complaints if they didn't.

I'm not necessarily talking about a show that deals with sexism as a central premise. Almost every show deals with it in one or two episodes, especially cheesey sitcoms and kids cartoons.

Avatar actually did a pretty good job, IMO. When Sokka started his shit I thought "aw fuck here we go again" but a few episodes later he redeemed himself pretty well.

I cannot think of a single sitcom where the wife is the 'villain' or idiot. Except AD, but that is so far beyond sitcoms that it's not even valid in this discussion.

It's obviously the liberal media trying to take our brains.

Let's be honest. A show where the female is evil or a moron would not be approachable to the female audiance. Men, on the other hand, identify with being nagged by their wives and having them percieve well intentioned actions as being thoughtless or insensitive.

So both genders can identify. It appeals to a broader audiance, and is more likely to get a green light.

So in your first post, you contend that a show has to be sexist against men in order to be entertaining because otherwise it'd be just like real life, but here you contend that these sexist portrayals are close enough to real life that men can relate to them.

The issue isn't with men being portrayed as being "misunderstood", the issue is with men being portrayed as intrinsically inferior to women due to nothing more than their gender.

The "bitchy female" has become a stereotype on TV. Wives, mothers, and girlfriends are portrayed as nagging, manipulative, and mildly malevolent to the innocent but somewhat slower-witted (if not outright naive) men.

It's not so much a commentary (or is not likely intended to BE a commentary) on how things are as much as an attempt to appeal to multiple perspectives. Men always see themselves as innocent, women always see themselves as quicker witted. Men see women in relationships often as manipulative and nagging, and men are seen by a lot of women to have a tendency toward lying and obstinance.

The problem with feminists (in this case I mean extreme feminists, which like all extreme elements are stupid) is that they cut the quo out of the "quid pro quo?" question. So long as you allow for self-deprecation while poking fun at another group, it's by and large harmless. It's the formula black comedians have used for years; everyone laughs at the mishaps and silliness of the black community because whitey has his foibles and strangeness too. Remove the willingness of white folks to admit their own idiosyncrasies and strangeness, and suddenly it becomes abuse.

Now I would dare anyone to find me a religion where a woman isn't portrayed in a weaker or subservient light. You won't find one. That doesn't mean religion is inherently evil, necessarily, but let's be honest...religion by and large doesn't like people poking fun at it either. Religion exists to tell us how we should live, but doesn't take well to return criticism and silliness at it's expense.

It IS, however, getting better. Particularly Judaism and Christianity. I think it's really just a matter of time until certain elements of dogma, particularly those regarding women, will have to be addressed. There's already a great deal of informal mitigation going on as is in many sects; it's not inconceivable that open changes will eventually occur.

Yeah, and it's racism when black comedians do it.

White people don't HAVE any collective foibles or idiosyncrasies because they're all individual people. Suggesting that a person might behave a certain way just because of their skin color is the definition of racism.

Shinto. In fact, ancient Japan, from around 300 CE up until the Heian period (around 700-800 CE), while not expressly matriarchal, did hold women in high regard. In fact, women could be clan leaders, priests, and even empresses. The Imperial family of Japan is believed to be descended from the chief deity in Shinto, the sun goddess, Amaterasu Omikami.

The stuff being described here was around long before feminism gathered strength and stems from age old stereotypes and humor. Mostly thought up and designed by men. The whole nagging wife, and the ball and chain senario. Men were joking and poking fun at these things long before TV and mass media was even around. "Never get married" the "Ball and Chain" the "Wife is a nagging hen" the "Never do anything because the wife always spoils my fun"...

I don't see how it's any different today with the media than it was before with men in a bar smoking and talking. Everyone Loves Raymond was a perfect example of that, and so is Yes Dear. I've never really see those things as the woman having some kind of extra power over the men rather than the women being overbearing hags as always getting in the way of a man's good time. I believe in Yes Dear's case that is the exact stereotype trying to be potrayed. The whole resigned "Yes Dear..." responce.

Grey's anatomy is just fucking annoying and needs to go away... It's like a colledge years Dawson's Creek. That is nothing BUT a show for women though. And house regularly gets the better of is his female counterparts. A good episode that comes to mind is the one with LL Cool J as the dying convict that all the female characters try to do the whole "Know better thing" and get him returned to prison while House stays adamant about his condition and proved correct when the victim is bleeding out on the table.

The Honeymooners, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Bewitched, I Love Lucy, Gilligan's Island, I Dream of Genie. They were all pretty much the same. Especially the Honeymooners (The original SitCom not the lame ass Remade Movie). In Lucy's case, she did at least make a fool of herself, as much as she nagged and brow beat Ricky. Then there has always been the Soaps, which shows like Grey's Anatomy evolved from.

Men have always seen and portrayed themselves as victimized innocents, it's been pretty much the corner stone of married/dating men's barroom talk and social events forever.
