Topic: Is WoW still going fot $30?

If so, I can afford it plus a 60 day game card. EBgames.com shows it being $50, but the last time I was in the store it was only $30.

Also, any EVer's play on a good, east coast PvE server?

You can get the game fore 20bucks through someone who already plays. So start sucking up to the people who have it.

Well, I mentioned that earlier this month, but no one got the hint, though I decided not to push it.

I have yet to play on any sort of PVP server on any MMORPG.

Is it a pain in the arse having the extra threat, or does it bring more fun to the game?

A lot more fun in my opinion And no, you cannot get ganked in the newbie zones either. All zones in the game are divided into either home zones or contested zones. In contested zones, there is full unrestricted PvP. If you were level one and a level 60 decided to smash you flat, he could. In a home zone, you can attack the enemies, but they cannot attack you first.

The system works really well I think You will not even have to venture into a contested zone once until your 20s, and even then it aint a 'gankfest', since more often than not there are level 60s on your side around the area you can call on.

One thing I love about the PvP system in this game is that someone higher level in you does not necessarily hit you harder just for being higher. Sure, they have more HP, more skills, and weapons that just hurt more outright... but it aint like daoc in terms of a damage multiplier based on level alone. A level 1 can hit a 60 just fine, except the 60 will have more HP and armor I have killed people so high level that the only thing displayed when you click on them is a big skull (way over level, like 10 or more than you).

That, and smashing elves is fun. Any game in which I can pulp the purple people eaters is awsome with me!

Actually, your DPS and AC do get slightly higher when you level, although it isn't nearly as large a boost as new equipment can give you.

The primary benefit of PVP servers is being able to gank or be ganked, neither of which really interest me.

Battlegrounds are more fun anyway.

Pretty much.

Though people are a bit more honorable most of the time on a PvP server. People don't like corpse camping/being corpse camped, so when they kill you, they'll give you a chance to move away from your body. On a PvE server, that doesn't happen. You have to stay as a ghost until you unflag.

Well, the ganking part, and the part where you can't park your raid outside of the entrance to Molten Core/UBRS/whatever in Blackrock Mountain. Fights happen there all the time.

Doesn't work quite as well on a PvP server. You can get ambushed on the way.

Battlegrounds are way too limited. World pvp has a lot of possibilities but the way it's set up now is just for ganking. There needs to be more to it. Instanced PvP is too balanced (usually) to be any fun. I don't mind if we start losing because a battle because backup shows up. It's more fun that way. Unfortunately, all we have now is town raids (yay DKs!!) and battlegrounds and that shit sucks.

Try playing in a level 20-29 BG where the alliance has a twinkie night elf with nutty weapon enchants that can demolish half your team by herself

PvP balanced my butt. It is all up to you about how much you want to put into it. If you pour all your heart and soul into it (uber gear will not hurt either ) you will roxxor the proverbial boxxors. If you just go in every once in a while and dink around while wearing your raiding gear, you are going to get molestered. And not in a steamy sexy kind of way. I am talking about a michael jackson touches mcaully culkin kinda way

PS: It finally took five people at once beating on that skank elf to make her bleed and die and go away. Weapon enchants not being level capped is not fun when you cannot afford them yourself! lol

I would honestly suggest jumping on a PVP server for WoW - as long as your not a complete asshole you have nothing to worried about extended corpse camping, and on the other side of the coin when someone is an asshole you can make them pay (Oh sweet vengeance.)

And PVE or PVP, if someone is determined to grief you, they will do it, flagged or not. It's pretty easy to jsut follow someone around, kill any escorts you try to do (though it is admittedly rare, but also hilarious) as well as tag important stuff before you kill it, etc.

I've also found that the average players between PVE and PVP aren't really that much of a bridge apart. Stupid b.net kiddies simply make easier targets for good old honor farming - and of course are excellent targets to release some pent up frustration. Also, as far as servers go, don't be to concerned about coasts. The only thing it will really affect is that the server may give you bad information on what time it is, since players are spread out pretty evenly, anyways. If you somehow decide to pvp and decide on mal'ganis or kel'thuzad - just look me up and i'll hook you up.

Okay, it's installing now - Media Play had it for 30 percent off since the store is closing.

I've heard nasty, slow things about the in-game patcher... can anyone recommend a place to get the current patch? Might as well download it while the install is on disc 2 of five.

Any thoughts on a good East Coast PvE server to start with?

Since yours is a fresh install, it should download a cumulative patch that'll be huge, but seeded by blizzard themselves.

No kidding. I found a website out there that tracked the horde/alliance ratio on all the servers, and Elune had over a two to one advantage in players over the horde. I wondered how anyone got any fighting done on Elune Do they wait in line to take turns bonking the one orc over the head or what?

I didn't suggest it, I just said that me, Addy, Falaanla, and occasionally Sean and Suddar played there. I left the rest to him!

Alliance may outnumber the Horde, but it's a rare day in hell when the Alliance beats the Horde in any of the BGs. Then again, the Alliance outnumber the Horde on EVERY server - it's just really bad on Elune.... and that's because Elune is STILL on the 'recommended server' list for some damn reason.
