WoW, you won't regret it... until you hit level 60 and find there's jack shit to do because 90% of the people don't know how to play the game.

I especially love those level 60 warriors without defensive or berserker stance, and the lovely way they use Charge to pull.

Ha ha. Goes pretty well, and yourself?

Yah. I realized it after I submitted it. But I dont want it centered around those two specifically, there are many others:

  • Ashrons Call
  • FFXI
  • Liniage 2
  • etc.

Your input would be much appriciated.

I like WoW, and EQ2 looks pretty fun, but pound for pound I never had more fun in an MMOG than in FFXI.

I enjoyed every minute I played that damn game. Inventive quests, an unintrusive story line, Conquest, Skillchains, the Job system - it all ruled.

However, I ultimately quit playing because grouping is virtually mandatory. Now that isn't to say I dislike grouping. I enjoyed the challenge of teaching new (or just plain bad) players, and loved being a key element in a group of salty vets (TANK 4 LIFE YO). Unfortunately, MMOGs all require a certain time investment per play session to make appreciable headway. Being forced to group on top of that meant everyone counted on the group to stick together for the duration; even if I had something to do or was just sick of playing, I felt obligated to stick with the group for a two hour minimum. Since I knew I'd be going back to college eventually and wouldn't always have time to do that, I bowed out of the game.

Of course that isn't the only problem with it. There are a few leveling bottlenecks in the game which annoyed me to no end. And the playerbase has this bizarre elitist mentality. It's one thing to get uppity about a stupid job/subjob combination (Black Mage/Monk? WTF?!), but some people in that game felt that if you didn't have the absolute best possible equipment at any given level, you were insulting your group.

...
Fucktards.

Anyway, despite all the shit I might give it, there's a soft spot in my heart for that game.
*sniff* I never did get to be a SAM/WAR

Well, if you don't have a copy of WoW already, you might be waiting a while.

If you sign up with EQ2 and get a Station Pass, you can play EQ, EQ2, Planetside, SWG, etc, all for $22 a month starting in February. You can also then find yourself somewhat weary of only seeing Qeynos and Antonica.

If you get a copy of WoW somehow and mistakenly choose a highly-populated server, you can wait in hold queues. If I played WoW, I'd choose a lesser-populated server myself.

Anti-Panty-Twist Disclaimer: I would play WoW as well myself if I had the time and the money to devote to it, EQ2, SWG, CoH, and EQ all at the same time. I don't. It looks to be an excellent game, though... from what I hear and see.

City of Heroes

If you've never heard of it, basically it's any other MMOG you've ever played, except all the PCs are super heroes =D

It's a fun little game. The part I enjoyed the most was its beefy character creator. This is probably the reason I got sick of it after a while, as the majority of my time was spent test-driving low level characters in the same two newbie zones.

The part about the game I disliked was, uh, grouping. Unlike in FFXI (or most other MMOGs, for that matter), there's very little strategy involved in participating in a CoH group. It basically just amounts to everyone throwing everything they had at a group of the bad guys; no rhyme or reason.

Admittedly, as I said before, I mostly had a bunch of lowbies, so for all I know this problem may be rectified at higher levels.

Good: No loot problems.
Everyone can do cool stuff.
Anyone can solo early on, and everyone has something to do in a group.
You can make progress in short bursts. Not everything requires hours on end.

Bad: No cool loot.
Everyone else does cool stuff.
Kill, rinse, repeat. Gets boring after a while.

Well, WoW is out because you simply can't buy it at the moment.

EQ2 is good, as is CoH.
I didn't like Star Wars Galaxies, but I know alot of people did and still do.

EQ1 is getting on in years, and I would suggest avoiding it.

Those are the only ones I've played. Of the lot, I would suggest EQ2.

I'm not going to talk about games I haven't played. If I do, people will hurt me.

I haven't played WoW, so I can't really say.

But there do appear to be some issues going on with it at the moment. If you did decide to get it, I might suggest waiting a month or two to give them more time to fix it.

I'm a four and half year EQ vet. I like EQII because it fixed many of the problems I had with original EQ. Quests are worth doing. The lore is interesting. Solo, grouping and to a smaller percentage raiding are all viable options of play. The lower levels can be gotten through fairly easily, and I'm not sure of the higher ones, but there is enough content to keep you busy so you don't have to chew through it all. Grinding is not as important as it was in EQ.

I just find it very fun, and a very long-term game. I think it has a solid foundation and offers much to everyone.

Just play on a small server like mine (Azjol-Nerub) and you're fine.

The thing is.. you'll never stop wondering what EQ2 is like if you go straight into WoW. I went EQ2 first, and disliked it. Some people love it. It just wasn't for me.

I was fortunate enough to come across a copy of WoW on the 29th or so, and I've been enjoying it ever since. /shrug

The 'problems' 'plaguing' WoW are limited to a small handful of servers

If you can find a copy, then I highly suggest you do... I have never had so much damn FUN playing a MMO before. Everything is fun, tradeskilling is fun, collecting resources is fun, killing mobs is fun, running my ass around zones I shouldn't be is fun. Damnest thing.

And once the Battlegrounds go live the fun will theoretically have no bounds

Basically, everyone playing WoW will tell you to get WoW over EQ2, and everyone playing EQ2 now will tell you to get EQ2 over WoW. Will never, ever, go beyond that

I was under the impression they were locking it down until the new servers come online (which isn't supposed to take long). Existing players supposedly deal with a queue system (which just about every webcomic has covered now).

It's one thing to go "I don't like EQ2 and I recommend that you play WoW"

It's totally different to make sweeping statements about server population in a game you've never played just because there aren't 600,000 subscribers like its struggling rival and then disguise it as legitimate advice.
