I think that the older folks here will all agree that Doom is the single best game that was ever made. EVER. Remember, if you will, the raw thrill as you pumped rocket after rocket at rooms full of imps and cacodemons. I can't speak for everyone, but the first time I saw the cyberdemon stomping spritely towards me I damn near shit myself!
The Arachnotron was hella-scary, too. And I won't even talk about the last level of Doom 2...still gives me the creeps.

3) C&C (even though I have always totally sucked at it)

1- Deus Ex
for being the greatest thinking shooter ever
2- System Shock 2
because it freaked me out like no other game ever did.
3- Thief 1/2 (2 better)
since it broke all shooter norms by ebing the first to disapprove killing.

i would just like to say that all the games below Fallout 1 are interchangable in thier places, Fallout 1 & 2 are so far ahead though that it's not worth mentioning except in a footnote
