I love American candy (especially taffy). The only reason I'm not fat is probably because it's not sold over here, anywhere.

Well, no longer! http://www.americansweets.co.uk/usa-candysweets-2-c.asp

So recommend me things and let's play Make Mort Fat.

wtf is a baby ruth?

I guess they have to pass the price they paid to mass-import it onto the consumer. Which is wierd because you can get Lucky Charms here. Or at least you used to, not sure if they sell it anymore. They're pretty foul anyway.

I propose a deal. I'll buys American candies and send them to you in exchange for you buying Kinder Eggs and sending them to me. Less overhead cost, more choices.

I miss Kinder Eggs.

Seconded. Those things are manna from heaven.

Anyway, you can't get much more American than a Hershey's bar, so I recommend some of those.

And a Baby Ruth is basically a bunch of peanuts covered in chocolate. Not my favorite, but they're all right.

Check ethnic markets. The Persian supermarket in Irvine stocks Kinder products of all kinds in addition to the big jars of Nutella.

My base carries Nutella and I loooove that stuff. And I think there is a German store around here that carries authentic stuff too...

Good idea.

Reeses Peanut butter is all good, but I recommend either making or finding a way to get your hands on some Buckeyes. I've only ever seen them homemade, but they contain more peanut butter and not as much chocolate as Reeses cups, which is how I prefer it.

As for other American candy, I am quite partial to Snickers (peanuts, caramel, and nougat) and Malt Balls (chocolate covered malts) and Skittles (chewy fruit flavored candies).

Junior Mints are great too. And if you just like caramel and chocolate, try Rollos. I'm also partial towards peanuts, so I love the Mr. Goodbar, which is simply a bar of chocolate filled with peanuts.

This thread is making me regret giving up most candy.

Costco sells the big jars of Nutella in two packs. Get thee to the wholesale store, sir. The Vons here in Murrieta carries them as well, which makes think it should be the same over there on the other side of the Ortegas.

My brother works for Hershey, and right now they're making bids on Cadbury (competing with Kraft) and Europeans are pissing and whining all over because they don't like how sugary Hershey chocolate typically is. I prefer dark or barely sweetened chocolate myself, but Hershey has tons of dark/semisweet candies anyway. You should try the Hershey's York Peppermint Patty Pieces if you like minty stuff, they're probably the greatest M&M clone ever. Also Twizzlers is owned by Hershey and if you wanna get fucked in the ass by corn syrup then I highly recommend the Twizzlers Pull-n-Peel, especially in the berry varieties. Also try nibs but don't bother with the twists 'cause they're hard as FUCK.

If you like sour stuff then do Warheads (from Impact) or just about anything by Willy Wonka (although this is technically European but oh well). Mounds bars (Hershey) and Snickers (Mars) are also pretty good in my opinion. I eat like one piece of candy per month though so yeh nah, fuck auf ye caunt

Oh yeah and about the jelly discussion, if you dare, try importing some marionberry jelly/jam. It's a variety of blackberry (more or less) bred by agriscientists at Oregon State University and it's essentially the best jam/preserve flavor.

Nutella is manufactured in NJ...Dunno why it would be hard to get?

To Mort; Dunno How much you would like Reg Hersey's chocolate, always seemed a bit more bitter/sour than European chocolates to me. Granted o Do love rather bitter dark chocolates(special the stuff with the Cocoa Nibs in them) But You may want to give the Nestles Stuff a Shot, the sickly sweet stuff from Wonka, like the Laffy Taffy.

I can already get Twix, Snickers, Mars bars and other such things here. What we don't have are pretty much all the things in my buy list up there.

Looking forward to trying grits. Something named GRIT has got to taste good, mm-mm-mm!

I was thankfully warned about candy corn beforehand.

I looked at that site. Flipz are awesome, I love 'em, but there's probably some equivalent (Chocolate Covered Pretzels) in the UK.

Things on that site you should try :

Jello No Bake Real Cheesecake Dessert
Cheetos
Kudos Granola Bars
Cap'N Crunch w/ Berries
A&W Root Beer (With Ice Cream for a root beer float)
Willy Wonka Nerds *
Everlasting Gobstoppers *
Runts *
Pixy Stix *
Reese's Miniatures
Lifesavers Original 5 Flavors - Still the best.

* - Basically just pure sugar with some color and flavoring, but I love 'em.

I dunno what you've tried before and what you haven't, but they're my favorite candies. Those and Swedish Fish, but I didn't see those on the site and I have no idea if they're available over there or not.

Reese's.. the word is MAGICAL.

Here's a couple things.
Get the seasonal special ones if you can. Christmas trees, Valentine hearts, Easter eggs, Halloween pumpkins. Find an American to ship them to you so you can be assured of freshness.

Nothing on earth is as wonderful as fresh seasonal Reese's special candy. Nothing on earth is more foul than last years leftovers, chalky chocolate, dried out peanut butter that tastes like something the cat hacked up.

As for Cereal..

Captain Crunch.. good choice. Do NOT go overboard unless you hate the roof of your mouth. As for the good stuff...

Cocoa Puffs. Not Krispies, not CocoRoos, no knockoffs here. And get them FRESH.
Golden Grahams. Again, no knockoffs.
Corn pops. yadayadayada no knockoffs.

If you havent had them before, my wholehearted recommendation for cereal is something called "Oh's!"

Crunchy, sweet, and actually pretty good for you. Yum.
