The only two I know of would be Gears of War and Dead Rising, and while the thought of three days in a mall with a mass of zombies does appeal to me, somehow, Gears of War has made me turn up my nose at what I like to term "College Gaming", Or games aimed specifically at 20-25 year old male college students like Halo, CoD, etc.
I, however, am readily to admit I was fully wrong, and bow to the superiour wisdom of those particular members of this board that have actually PLAYED these games.
Mass Effect is pretty good, although the story is basically just Knights of the Old Republic without Jedi.
Sigpic shamelessly stolen from Kate Beaton.
I suppose GTA 4 is only 3 months away, but Saints Row is pretty cheap now (20-30 dollars).

Elaborate. What parts of it make it poison to Mortious' veins?
Katamari I had not known of, Bioshock and Portal (Because calling it the Orange Box is a misnomer. You buy OB for Portal, damnit.) I have.
I had heard that CoD4 was decent (Even Yahtzee gave it a favorable review, or as favorable as he is wont to give), though I query it's worth on a console over the PC.
What is this Crackdown and EDF2017?

If I recall, your only problem was you couldn't figure out how to save
Unfortunately, there are a lot of escort quests with really stupid people that run directly into swarms of zombies and kill themselves.

Fortunately, only a handful of them need to actually be completed to go through the entire story.
And by handful, I mean maybe 2. Theres the one with Isabella, and probably another I forgot about.
But yeah, generally, escorts are better left for another play through, when you've got a sizable amount of inventory to carry food and drinks to heal them. Skaw fucked around with this message on 02-09-2008 at 04:52 PM.
Apparently, you can kill Brad in the beginning though to completely screw over the main story, and then do whatever the fuck you want for the most part. I may do this next time I start up the game.

Any Scoop fed to you by Otis, you can ignore. Most of the ones given to you through cutscenes you can't. Some of them you can, like Kent's photography horseshit, or the Cultist having Jennifer in the box. Any scoop at the top of your list is the main story scoop, and the only one you have to care about at any given time.
You only really have to "save" someone every once in a while. You don't really need to save Brad, because Carlos will likely be shooting at Frank. And if Carlos does shoot and Brad, he rarely hits/Brads a tank to bullets. The only one thats even remotely difficult is saving Carlos from the Butcher. But that isn't exactly hard either.
Between the main story parts, you can go out and mindlessly kill zombies (and survivors) for hours.
This means skipping out on a couple of Psychos though. The cult leader, the fat cop woman, and the veteran. Also Paul, I think, which comes with a decent reward for saving him after beating him. He'll give you an unlimited supply of Moltov Cocktails. Though you're still restricted in carrying as many as you have free inventory. Doing the cult side-story also results in easy 10,000 PP Erotic photos for Kent's side-story(which is largely pointless except getting Saint and Census Taker achievements.) You might also miss out on the last Phsyco picture-based achievement just doing main story psychos.
Doing the cult side story also has it's own immediate reward. Removing those faggots from the game. Skaw fucked around with this message on 02-09-2008 at 05:06 PM.

This is actually regarded as the game's single, greatest flaw: There is no "unlimited", or sandbox mode.
Instead, there's just an extremely shitty and unfun survival mode that's called infinite, but really isn't.

It had no plot worth mentioning, but Gears single player was one of the more enjoyable FPS campaigns I've played. And I really enjoyed online play too. At least with a standard group of people.
Man, I remember my shotty triple kill in someones smoke on Escalation when we played with Goons.
That was badass.

You didn't like Gears of War? So you don't like any shooters?
Shooters aren't inherently bad, It's just most of the time they focus on the shooting and less on the plot, thus leaving me with a 60 dollar game with little to no replay value (If you think Replay value for 360 shooter games is playing with the retards online, ohdeargod).
At least with a game like No More Heroes, there's something exceptionally cathardic about chopping random badguys in half.

As opposed to playing with retards online on the PC and the PS3?
It doesn't matter which platform you're playing on. Retards infest FPS games everywhere.

Replay value like rolling a different character archetype in A diablo clone. being completely good or evil in overlord, etc. Not playing the same maps over and over with or without random people with no true reward for winning a map. (TF2, I'm looking at you.)
I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm just saying it's not my cup of tea.
delphi is horrible
Does the fact that wins in Gravel Pit are based off the rounds rather than the entire map make it not suck now?
And again, I never said it was bad, I just find it mildly pointless. Disheartening, almost.

Gears is one of the best co-op games on the 360.
If you get it used, it should be under 20 bucks.

So why am I not playing TF2 every night? By all accounts, the gameplay is solid, balanced better than any other team-based game that I've played in a long while.
Yet.. no point. I don't feel different playing a scout that jumps a lot as opposed to a scout that uses his bat a lot.
I feel different playing a witcher who is a racist evil bastard who kills anyone he can as opposed to a kindhearted soul. /shrug

You're trying to say that plot leads to replayability and gameplay doesn't. That's flat out asinine.
Any game that's ever lasted for any real amount of time has ridden on it's gameplay and not it's plot. A great many of the people who play these games don't even bother with the single player campaign. Counter-Strike is the most replayed FPS of all time and it doesn't even have a single player campaign.
Little hidden story nuggets MIGHT turn a thirty our game into a sixty hour one if you're lucky. Gameplay can turn a seven hour game into a seven thousand hour one. Maradon! fucked around with this message on 02-10-2008 at 10:51 PM.

Also Dragonball Z Budokai 3 (laffo rite) is pretty superb in the gameplay department. Guess how great the story is (hint: its dbz)

Ok. The way you play the game, sometimes referred to as the gameplay affects the plot of the Witcher. So, still a gameplay thing.

Exactly why I never play a game twice.
Unless.. you know.. it's amazingly good or something. I didn't even play through the Witcher twice and I loved that game.
GTA4 is coming April 29th I think and as far as I'm concerned that's a MUST BUY.
Dead Rising is still a must have. Just because some impatient faggots couldn't be bothered to reply the intro or LEARN 2 PLAY in general doesn't mean you should avoid this.
Earth Defense Force 2017 is still okay with just your lonesome. Mindless killing of giant bugs. Good bargin bin/preowned buy.
I won't recommend to you any shooters like CoD4, Bioshock or Orange Box because they're obvious a lot better on the PC. Especially CoD4, which has a surprisingly fun MP.
Even if you're not into boxing Fight Night makes for some HILARIOUS fun with the right people. Sean and I had tons of great laughs watching grandmas get punched around in slow motion. Also making custom boxers like Abraham Lincoln.
Crackdown is fun, worth $30-40 dollars.
Also check out downloadable arcade games. Classics like DOOM are still fucking fun. Blackened fucked around with this message on 02-11-2008 at 11:55 AM.

You are a god among this thread.
And as for before in this thread, maybe I'm just being too picky. Heh. Sorry about that.
And as for the arcade games, I've already spent like 5000 points already on stuff. System itself came with a bunch of preinstalled demos and some of them were really decent, I was suprised.
And I agree with you on Dead Rising. I messed around in the demo for an hour just raking zombies and crap and was having a blast.
Skate, if you ever found an interest in real skating or Tony Hawk, this is definitely a unique one to pick up and play. Your tricks are done with the right stick and movement with the left. Don't expect anything big and crazy like Tony Hawk...more realistic.
Rock Band, It's probably gotten enough praise...but is definitely fun with a group of people.
Eternal Sonata, pretty interesting JRPG with stupendously stylized graphics. I was just dumb founded by the look of the game. It's extremely purdy.
Just my suggestions on a few games...
