There's gonna be like five of us, and only one person there for a console. I don't know what the fuck.

I'm not even getting one. ARMANDO is camping for one, so now three or four of us have to go keep him company. He sounds like a pretty cool dude, though; apparently the last time he camped out for something, he didn't get it, and bought two Tickle-Me-Elmos instead.

For the same reason you'll see thousands camping the walmarts for the ~10 units of the 42" Plasma TVs each store will have on Black Friday....hope.

The Wii isn't coming out on that god awful day and you won't have to go to a Walmart to get it.
Then again, I'm in area where I can pick from a large number of stores. Hell, if I wanted to spend the time I could go to the Nintendo World Store. So I'm not going to have to brave the cold, hurray.

I have nothing to corroborate that, though, that just comes from my stockroom manager.

The "standard" rough estimate is 400k launch units in the US. 360 had 325k launch units or so.

Exactly. I'm told that they will have less than 125k total units on launch.

I've heard about 3 (small store) - 10 (large store) premium units and 1-5 core units. EB and Gamestop will get more units than other retailers, but not many.
Nintendo still hasn't told us (Or any retailer) how many Wii's we're getting. Maybe 20.

I had heard that Sony had actually cut the number of units launching in the US down to 80k. I have no source, as it is word-of-mouth, but I trust my friend that told me, since he researches stuff.
If it's true...damn.

I'll place that firmly in the "Theres a lot of bullshit about the PS3 launch" pile.

I'm doubtful they'll make the 400k mark, but 1/5th of that is just unthinkable. I'm thinking closer to 350~k.
I mean, they started production fairly late, but not that late. Skaw fucked around with this message on 11-10-2006 at 03:39 PM.
It makes you think though. There are what, 300 million people in the US now? We know that at least several million of them are gamers. Sony expects that people will pony up the dough for their expensive-ass console, yet they make so few. Are they really so confident that they will sell? I'm getting mixed signals from Sony here.
Edit: [Clarification] By "so few," I'm actually talking about the 350-400k estimates. Densetsu fucked around with this message on 11-10-2006 at 03:43 PM.
For $750.

Sony would be churning them out as fast as possible if they could. It is production limitations, not choice limiting it. PS3 is eating just about the entire production capacity of the world for the blue diodes they need for Blu-Ray and they still can't make them fast enough.

Usually the store in question handles the lines and hands out numbered tickets so that cutting is pointless.
At least that's what my store did with the 360.
